Between Rebels and Rulers in the Early Islamicate World
No full textBetween Rebels and Rulers in the Early Islamicate World offers the first dedicated examination of the phenomenon of rebellion across the early Islamicate world. It combines discourse analysis with a return to long-neglected social-historical analysis in its study of contention and the ways in which it was narrated and enacted. These approaches are pursued through fourteen case studies, ranging geographically from North Africa to Central Asia and chronologically from the sixth to tenth centuries CE. These diverse examples reveal several patterns: First, rebellion operated as a normative means of negotiating power and obtaining justice. Second, the main constituencies of rebellion were local elites, both Muslims and non-Muslims, Arabs and members of pre-conquest societies, separately or together. Accordingly, this volume challenges the ‘othering’ of rebels found in written sources and reflected in scholarship and reframes them and their discourses as integral parts of an imperial system. El derecho romano en la constitución peruana de 1867
No full textThe objectives of this work are: to make known the link between Roman law and the Peruvian Constitution of 1867 and to understand in depth the relevance and legacy of this Magna Carta in the Peruvian historical context. The aspects considered for the respective analysis were: citizenship and immigration, religion, individual guarantees and public force. That is why a review of different texts was carried out: theses, books, articles, etc. And it was concluded that Roman law had a significant presence in the Peruvian constitution of 1867 and in the country's legislation at that time.PublishedEl presente trabajo tiene como objetivos: dar a conocer el vínculo entre el derecho romano y la Constitución peruana de 1867 y comprender a profundidad la relevancia y el legado de esta carta magna en el contexto histórico peruano. No full textThis volume presents, for the first time in English, Marco Arosio’s study of Bonaventure’s theological epistemology: Credibile ut intelligibile. In this work Arosio seeks to clarify what Bonaventure meant when discussing theology as a science. The credibile is that which a Christian accepts by faith. The subject of theology, for Bonaventure, is the credibile insofar as reason makes it intelligibile, that is, something the rational mind understands. Reason applied to the credibile does make theology a scientia specialis, but it is a scientia specialis de omnibus. The theologian, whose concern is with the Bible as interpreted by the Fathers, is not limited by rules of deductive procedure, but embraces the knowledge of all things with the goal of ecstatic rapture. For Bonaventure, theology cannot be a merely rational process.
