Inter- und intraindividuelle Variation bei Relativa und Interrogativa im Schweizerdeutschen
Melanie Bösiger untersucht in ihrer Dissertation empirisch die Verwendung von Relativa und Interrogativa im Schweizerdeutschen. Grundlage der Analyse bilden einerseits Grammatiken und Wörterbücher zum Schweizerdeutschen und andererseits Antworten aus Fragebogen von über 1 000 Personen aus allen Regionen der Deutschschweiz, die den heutigen Sprachgebrauch dokumentieren. Neben einer ausführlichen Methodenkritik zum Online-Fragebogen steht die Frage im Zentrum, welche Relativa und Interrogativa in welchen morphologischen Formen im Schweizerdeutschen in unterschiedlichen syntaktischen Kontexten verwendet werden. Dabei wird analysiert, ob die Wahl eines Lexems und seiner Form mit bestimmten Funktionen im Satz, mit geografischen Faktoren oder mit dem Alter der Sprecher:innen zusammenhängt. Die Daten erlauben eine detaillierte quantitative interindividuelle Auswertung sowie eine Analyse der intraindividuellen Variation, bei der untersucht wird, ob sich bei einzelnen Sprecher:innen Verwendungsmuster beobachten lassen. Die Kombination der beiden Analyseebenen ermöglicht eine differenzierte Beschreibung des gegenwärtigen Gebrauchs der Relativa und Interrogativa im Schweizerdeutschen

In the past, these diseases were only studied and treated in a few centres. However, in the last thirty years, thanks to the advent of laparoscopic surgery, interest in these pathologies has broadened considerably, and not only from a surgical point of view: new diagnostic technologies have in fact been developed that have led to more appropriate classifications and endoscopic treatments have been proposed with excellent results; in addition, robotic surgery is emerging in specialised centres and is likely to replace the laparoscopic approach
Geospatial Technologies for Heritage Education
This open access book shows that students, through geospatial technologies, learn the sustainable approach of heritage and also the heritage as a diversity of elements due to the complexity of physical, human, cultural, and artistic factors involved. The value of natural and cultural heritage, as part of collective heritage, can be acquired by geographic information systems (GIS) due to the multilayer approach of the spatial configuration. Proficiency in geospatial technologies to collect, process, analyze, interpret, visualize, and communicate geographic information is being increased by undergraduate and graduate students but, in particular, by those who are training to become geography, history, and art history teachers at the primary and secondary education levels. Some teaching experiences, using personalized learning, distance learning methodology, and GIS, focused on education aims to integrate students and enhance their understanding of the heritage are welcome. Opportunities offered by WebGIS in heritage education to learning research and teacher education research also fit with the scope of this book
Nature-Positive Cities: Adaptive Spatial Planning in Italy for an Ecological Urban Transition
This open access book underscores the importance of a multidisciplinary approach, framed within a broader trans-disciplinary perspective, to move from conventional urban development to nature-positive cities and planning. It is therefore fundamental to assess urban biodiversity, actually not largely investigated yet crucial for ecosystem services provision in urban areas, and urban soils, often overlooked, that plays a crucial role in biodiversity support and nature conservation, along with green and blue infrastructures, that are able to generate ecosystem benefits and contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation, as well as improve human health. The other critical step is to translate this commitment into urban planning goals, followed by the implementation and monitoring of actions to achieve the set goals. To support this transition, the book presents strategies for integrating nature and its elements into urban planning and policy design. The interdisciplinary nature of the book – ensured by multiple background and expertise in urban planning, architecture, forestry, ecology – ensures cross-sectoral insights that likely help advancing the awareness and knowledge of experts, decision-makers and citizens to ultimately drive the transition into nature-positive cities
Experimental Design for Data Science and Engineering
Theory, experiments, computation, and data are considered as the four pillars of science and engineering. Experimental Design for Data Science and Engineering describes efficient statistical methods for making the experiments cheaper and computations faster for extracting valuable information from data and help identify discrepancies in the theory. The book also includes recent advances in experimental designs for dealing with large amounts of observational data. Traditionally the design and analysis of physical and computer experiments are treated differently, but this book attempts to create a unified framework using Gaussian process models. Although optimal designs are formulated using Gaussian process models, the focus is on obtaining practical experimental designs that are robust to model assumptions. A wide variety of topics are covered in the book -- from designs for interpolating or integrating simple functions to designs that are useful for optimizing and calibrating complex computer models. It draws techniques that are spread across the fields of statistics, applied mathematics, operations research, uncertainty quantification, and information theory, and build experimental design as a fundamental data analytic tool for engineering and scientific discoveries. Designs for both computer and physical experiments are discussed in a unified framework. Integrates several concepts from numerical analysis, Monte Carlo methods, sensitivity analysis, optimization, and machine learning with experimental design techniques in statistics. Methods are explained using many real experiments from physical sciences and engineering. Experimental design techniques for analysis and compression of big data are discussed. All the numerical illustrations in the book are reproducible using R and Python codes provided in the author’s GitHub site
