No full textThis book provides an overview of the diverse multidisciplinary field of more-than-human design, offering a philosophical grounding of more-than-human design in posthumanism while putting practical design examples and methods to the forefront. There is an urgent need to radically re-imagine design, as its current processes are contributing to global warming, pollution, deforestation, ocean acidification, ozone layer depletion, loss of biodiversity and species extinction. Given this need, ‘more-than-human design’ has emerged as a perspective that widens our thinking beyond solely human-oriented considerations and needs, such as animals, plants and microbes. The book explores the relationship between sustainability and design, touching on topics such as AI, systems thinking, futures studies and pedagogy, and discusses a range of case study projects that are grounded in more-than-human thinking, demonstrating how this can be incorporated into practice. This easily accessible and theoretically grounded book will provide design researchers and educators an excellent introduction to more-than-human thinking. The Politics of Unpaid Labour
No full textThis book introduces a theory of the politics of unpaid labour, advancing our understanding of inequality within the context of precarious work. Arguing that this theory can help address the inequalities perpetuating the dynamics and processes underpinning stigma which surround the rise of precarious work under labour market reforms and societal and technological changes, the book forges a link between the micro properties of the social system and its macro-level structural patterns. The former relates to the motivations and meanings individuals attribute to the unpaid labour they perform in a context where employment is precarious, while the latter refers to how individuals build resilience through sustaining unpaid labour by accessing resources found within the private, social, and financial sphere of the family as well as in regulatory arrangements at the level of the state and other social institutions. The book’s empirical section is based on extensive research comparing meanings of unpaid labour in creative dance, residential care, and online freelancing in Europe. The theoretical section advances current discussion in three ways. First, it establishes the characteristics differentiating employment from self-employment, and how these lead to a revised definition of unpaid labour. Second, it illustrates that unpaid labour is both shaped by class and serves to reproduce class interests, revealing ongoing changes in welfare, employment, and state institutional policies. Third, it considers the necessity to establish conditions within the labour market conducive to genuinely cultivating and honouring the diversity of human capabilities and actions within labour structures and promoting their manifestation
Trustworthy Distributed Usage Control Enforcement in Heterogeneous Trusted Computing Environments

In order to help closing this research gap between 1792 and 1848, this book focuses on that period and examines the interaction between contributions from the estates and central government demands in the area of military administration in the province of Upper Austria.In der Geschichtsschreibung hinsichtlich der Habsburgermonarchie genießt die erste Hälfte des 19. India and Central Asia in the Post-Cold War Era
No full textThis book analyses the evolution of India’s foreign policy towards Central Asia after the end of the Cold War.
Focusing on the development of India’s foreign policy towards Central Asia between 1991 and 2020, this book investigates the explanatory and intervening variables of the policy towards the region to identify its goals, assumptions, motivations and instruments. The preliminary assumption is that India’s foreign policy towards Central Asia has evolved after the Cold War from a passive approach to an active participant in Central Asian security, economic and socio-cultural spheres. This is also seen due to the emergence of the five Central Asian countries as independent states, which have a tremendous strategic significance due to their geographical location, huge hydrocarbon reserve and potential economic opportunities. India expanded its policy to the ‘Extended Neighbourhood,’ adding East, Central and West Asia to the existing South Asian neighbourhood. Since then, India has been engaging with the region considering the growing geostrategic and geo-economic significance of the region and using the available foreign policy instruments. This book presents a comprehensive assessment of India’s foreign policy behaviour evolution with proper analysis of the explanatory (external) and intervening (internal) variables that influence India’s behaviours towards the region. It shows that India also aims to be a very influential power in Central Asia.

Regulating Interracialized Intimacies
No full textThis book explores the role of the law in the social construction of ‘race’ and ‘mixture’ within and beyond the borders of Europe. It focuses on ‘interracialized’ intimacies, that is, the intimate relations of subjects ascribed and/or perceived to belong to different ‘races’. The role of the state in defining boundaries between ‘us’ and ‘them’ becomes particularly clear in their regulation. Moving across different times, places and political formations – including the US slavery regime, European colonial empires and metropolises – the book delves deep into how the governments of white-supremacist and white-majority societies have consistently attempted to prevent, discourage or obstruct intimate relationships crossing the colour line. This occurred directly, through prohibitions and anti-miscegenation laws, or indirectly, through citizenship laws, marriage licenses, social care, prostitution laws, housing policies, policing practices and other means. The book further shows that the legacy of these highly gendered and racialized regulations continues to reverberate today, informing norms, hierarchies and perceptions about whose intimacies count as legitimate and ought to be facilitated and whose are deemed suspect and requiring state surveillance. The contributions also shed light on the individuals, couples and families who were targeted by state regulations and how they challenged and disturbed state categorizations and regulations. Highly interdisciplinary in scope, with contributions by pioneering United States and European scholars in this field, this book will be a fundamental read for scholars, researchers and students interested in tracing the genealogy of racial thinking in Europe and beyond, and its enduring operativity
