La tutela del consumatore nella prospettiva halal tra sfide e opportunità del mercato europeo

    No full text
Comparative Law plays a key role in promoting dialogue between European and Muslim law, as producers of goods and services for the European market are called not only to respect Euro-Unitary law but also to assess carefully halal prescriptions, since the only way to trust the Muslim consumers is to provide adequate transparency and accessibility to reference information. From this perspective, the acquisition of halal certification plays a significant role in the sale of consumer goods and, at the same time, a decisive role in the access of some goods rather than others to the European market. The collected works in this volume focus on the sale of consumer goods in terms of Shari’a compliant, highlighting how European consumerism faces a complex of challenges and opportunities that are fueled by the multicultural society and the growing demand for halal products among non-Muslims.

    Exploring Japanese Thought

    No full text
Japanese history is filled with many great writers and thinkers whose names live on today. While some are well-known abroad, like the Zen scholar Suzuki Daisetsu and the writer Miyazawa Kenji, others remain confined to the realm of scholarship. This book introduces forty-five works of thought to a general readership, put into context with insightful and evocative commentary. Grouped into seven themes, each essay deals with topics such as the relationship between people and nature, the living and the dead, introspection to secular engagement, the nature of the physical body, redefining Buddhism, traditional thought and culture throughout the ages, and the function of the state in society. By examining the ideas of the past, Exploring Japanese Thought offers wisdom for living in the present

    Fundamentals of Dark Matter

    No full text
Drawing on the experience of the author, this textbook focuses on pedagogy that guides students through the facts regarding dark matter, but also encourages questions and critical examination of what is known, through thought-provoking exercises under the heading “How about…?” in each chapter. Each chapter includes learning outcomes, discussion questions and classroom exercises. The book guides students through the first challenges in galactic astrophysics that led to the hypothesis of dark matter; the subsequent detailed studies of large-scale structure and cosmic microwave background that unequivocally identifies this component as a fundamental one; and the latest developments in our understanding of galaxy formation. The material can be used as the main textbook for a dedicated module on dark matter. It can also be adopted to support a general course on extragalactic astrophysics and cosmology. Praise for Fundamentals of Dark Matter 'The nature of dark matter is one of major outstanding questions in astrophysics and Ignacio Ferreras provides a clear and thorough overview of the fundamental aspects of the field. The text contains formal exercises to test comprehension of the material but also more thought-provoking 'How about..?' questions that deepen the reader's understanding. This book is an ideal introduction to an exciting and dynamic area of research and I recommend it highly for advanced undergraduates and beginning graduate students.' Rosemary Wyse, Johns Hopkins University 'This textbook offers an accessible introduction to one of the most intriguing topics in astrophysics. With a focus on foundational concepts, Ferreras provides readers with the essential tools to understand the basics of dark matter research, making this book a valuable resource for students and anyone beginning their journey into this fascinating field.' Gianfranco Bertone, University of Amsterda

    Chapter 7 Conclusion

    No full text
This book offers the first systematic account in English of the Spanish mass press coverage of ‘jihadist terrorist’ attacks in contemporary Spain. Drawing upon a critical analysis of the ‘Spanish Transition to Democracy’ (1975–82) and ‘War on Terror’ narratives, it examines the ideology underlying the metaphors used in the Spanish mainstream press coverage of the terrorist attacks in Madrid (2004) and Barcelona (2017). The book shows how these metaphors were systematically deployed for propagandistic purposes that sought to ‘manufacture the consent’ of the Spanish population while obstructing public deliberation apropos the attacks, strengthening Spanish ‘democracy’ by defining it in opposition to ‘jihadist terrorism.’ This book will be of interest to students of Critical Terrorism Studies, Spanish Politics, Media Studies, and Security Studies. Infections in Surgery

    No full text
Infections in surgery, commonly known as surgical site infections (SSIs), are complications that may occur after a surgical procedure. SSIs represent a serious problem leading to increased morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs, highlighting the need for continued efforts to improve surgical practices and reduce their incidence. Several factors can contribute to the development of SSIs: patient-related factors (such as obesity, advanced age, diabetes, immunosuppression, pre-existing infections etc.); preoperative preparation-related factors (such as incomplete skin antisepsis or failure to administer appropriate antibiotic prophylaxis); microbial contamination (despite sterile techniques, microorganisms can infect the surgical site); surgical procedure-related factors (duration and complexity of the surgeries); postoperative care-related factors (such as inadequate wound care or infection control measures). To prevent SSIs, healthcare facilities implement various strategies, including: optimization of patients’ conditions before surgery; preoperative antibiotic prophylaxis; strict sterile technique; postoperative wound care; surveillance and monitoring to identify and address SSIs early, preventing their spread and complications. Despite the evidence supporting the effectiveness of best practices, many clinicians fail to implement them, and evidence-based practices that optimize both the prevention and treatment of SSIs tend to be underused, highlighting the importance of ongoing research and improvement in surgical techniques and infection control practices. This open access book provides a practical toolkit for surgeons and intensivists to improve their daily clinical practices in order to reduce the risk of SSIs

    High Pasture Cave

    No full text
High Pasture Cave served as a significant site for ritual activities and communal events from the Neolithic thought the Scottish Iron Age. High Pasture Cave, located on the island of Skye, Scotland, occupies a liminal location on the very edge of a settlement, and appears to have been a focus for specific and special activities. Its extended period of use is indicated by ephemeral signs of Neolithic Activity, limited Bronze Age usage, and vast artefactual and environmental assemblages recovered dating to the Early to Middle Scottish Iron Age, c.800 BC to AD 150. Footsteps in the Dark details the research-led excavations at the cave and its context in the landscape, including geology and stratigraphy, the use and transformation of the cave from the Neolithic, post-Medieval activity after the sites closure, chronology and radiocarbon dating, the human remains, and stable isotope analysis. The examination of the site indicates that the High Pasture Cave Complex was a special place, a focus for significant communal events, for undertaking ritual and special activities, and a place for deposition of significant objects – a place whose significance remained embedded in social memory long after active use ceased. These findings challenge our current understanding with regards to cave use and function, and with relation to the wider understanding of Iron Age cultural and religious beliefs
