İnsan Bilgisayar Etkileşimi: Kullanılabilirlikte Araştırma Yöntemleri ve Uygulamalar / Human Computer Interaction: Research Methods and Applications in Usability

    No full text
The field of Human Computer Interaction (HCI) has become one of the most critical research areas of the artificial intelligence era, starting with Vannevar Bush’s visionary article in 1945. In this period when technology is more integrated into our daily lives, it is of great importance to realize the vision of “human-connected technology” from the vision of “systems that understand people” emphasized by Lucy Suchman in 1987. This book systematically examines research methods and usability applications in the field of HCI. While examining a wide range of usability research methodologies ranging from eye tracking to affect analysis, from A/B tests to mouse tracking methods, current topics such as the Internet of Things (IoT), chatbot interactions and fake news detection are also discussed. The main purpose of this study is to examine in detail the various research methods used in the field of HCI and to provide both theoretical and practical guidance to the readers by showing the usability-focused applications of these methods. Each chapter explains how the techniques can be used and how they can improve the user experience by supporting the method it covers with real-world applications. We are presenting a new resource that responds to the current needs of the field by following the path opened by the previous HCI book published by Istanbul University Publications in 2020. Considering that the Turkish literature in the field of HCI is limited, this study has a special importance. In this period when technology is rapidly developing, we aim to help academic researchers understand the methods, meet the practical needs of industrial practitioners in terms of usability, and make an original contribution to the Turkish HCI literature. It is of critical importance for the development of the field that undergraduate and graduate students in particular have access to a comprehensive resource in their native language. Our book offers valuable insights on a wide range of topics, from digital literacy to mobile application usability, from emotional interaction to web search behavior. Each chapter includes theoretical and practical studies of researchers who are experts in their fields. We would like to sincerely thank all authors who contributed to the preparation of the book, our referees, and our teammates who supported us during the editorial process. We hope that this study will guide researchers, students, designers and industry professionals working in the field of HCI.Publishedİnsan Bilgisayar Etkileşimi (İBE) alanı, 1945′te Vannevar Bush’un vizyoner makalesiyle başlayan yolculuğunda bugün yapay zeka çağının en kritik araştırma alanlarından biri haline geldi.

Carbon Capture Technology and Storage in Poland

    No full text
The book describes the results of the AGaStor Project’s social research carried out in northwestern Poland which recognizes the main social opportunities and barriers to the introduction of CCUS to society. At the national and regional level, the social barriers of CCUS acceptance are ignorance, uncertainty and the lack of public debate about this technology. On the local scale, social acceptance depends on the needs and fears of the local community. Some of those fears – distrust and perception of CO2 as a waste – could be recognized as universal dilemmas connected with CCUS. Although as knowledge about CCUS increases, a significant change in attitude can be observed. This change does not mean an acceptance of that technology. It is rather a shift towards more benign forms of resistance – from NIMBY to WIMBY. The book presents actual mechanisms of social reaction to UGS and CCUS investment, which will be a valuable contribution to managing social change in the context of green transition. The issue of social acceptance of CCUS should be of interest to decision makers and practitioners who manage investment projects in the broadly understood green transformation on a daily basis, and also to postgraduate students, researchers, academics and lecturers in political studies, sociology or economics, and in engineering studies connected with energy transformation

Landscapes at Risk. Social Capital Asset in the COVID-Scape Climate

    No full text
Up until the current pandemic, the terms “urban-scape” and “human-scape” have been meant, assumed, and practised as parallel dimensions of the territorial analysis, marginalising the knowledge and the evaluation of the landscape risk. This has always been associated, and often confused, with diverse forms of environmental risk, despite the fact that they represent some of the most important components of risk, but not its essence. The relation between social capital and landscape deserves to be examined and represented in its entirety: as a matter of fact, while social capital has mainly been considered in the material, functional, economic, and ethical dimensions, landscape has been examined in the perceptual, psychological, cultural, and aesthetic dimensions. Sudden and widespread environmental fluctuations, such as the one created by the pandemic and by the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, significantly involved the relationship between the two main existential dimensions of the settled communities—social capital and landscape—and its possible representations by means of the economic–monetary dimension as well. This reprint contains empirical studies and systematic reviews regarding the essence and the possible overcoming of the conflict between some specific functions of the economic sub-system and landscape quality, with specific reference to the main criticalities already existing before the pandemic and to the possibility—prefigured by the new restraints—to rebuild their connections in order to reduce the landscape risk

    Molecular approaches for quantum technologies

    No full text
Quantum computers provide a powerful resource to push the boundaries of current knowledge. At the core of their logical architecture are quantum bits and quantum logic gates. Electron spin can be used as a resource to encode logical operators, and, as such, magnetic molecules have proven to be a versatile platform for the realization of fundamental logical units. They offer the possibility of finely tuning desired quantum properties by exploiting targeted chemical approaches. This thesis book provides fundamental knowledge about quantum logical units, with a focus on magnetic molecules and electron spin dynamics. It reports on the various chemical approaches employed to advance beyond the current state-of-the-art in electron spin-based molecular quantum technologies

Phase Change, Interphase Coupling, and Multiphase Transport in Porous Structures

    No full text
Multiphase flows and phase-change phenomena are often encountered in many engineering systems, such as CCUS (carbon capture, utilization, and storage); the exploitation of oil, natural gas, and other underground resources; the utilization of geothermal energy and hydrogen energy, etc. Multiphase flows refer to the interactive flow of distinct phases, and each phase discriminated by common interfaces in a channel represents a mass or volume of matter. Multiphase flows can occur in single-component or multi-component systems. Possible phase combinations in our Reprint include the following: solid–liquid–gas, where solid particles and gas bubbles are mostly dispersed in liquid; solid–gas, solid–liquid, and liquid–gas, where the volume fraction of one phase is relative to other results for different flow regimes; and phase change and miscibility phenomena involved in a combination of the above. We hope that our Reprint will act as a guide for researchers and engineering technicians
