From the War of Succession to the defnitive abolition of the tribunal, the volume traces the main trials that reached Rome from the Iberian tribunal, giving rise to frequent jurisdictional conflicts that were already present at the tribunal's foundation, and never fully resolved. Between attempts at reform, diplomatic actions by the Holy See, and heretical resurgences, it is possible to observe the slow and intermittent decline of the Spanish Inquisition, which throughout the 18th century experienced moments of authority and incisiveness on the political scene, although perpetually contested between royal power and apostolic authority.
Plural Values of Culture in Europe
In recent years, the plurality of values of culture has been increasingly recognized in practical, academic, and policymaking contexts. Beyond its traditional intrinsic values—linked to aesthetics, authenticity, and excellence—its capacity to contribute to well-being, to promote identity and belonging and tolerance and inclusiveness, to stimulate creativity, and to foster innovation are ever more acknowledged by a great variety of social actors. However, an economy- and market-oriented perspective has come to dominate the administrative and managerial discourse on cultural valuation for a few decades. This has resulted in a predominance of an approach to valuing culture that is expressed exclusively in terms of its economic impact, obscuring other values of culture. The European research project UNCHARTED has tried to counteract this predominance by providing a broader vision of the societal value of culture in the European context and by applying this alternative view to some of the most relevant areas in which cultural valuation impinges on cultural management and cultural policy today. This book presents its main results. Based on a pragmatist perspective, we have carried out an extensive multiple case study (65 cases in seven countries) that considers the multiplicity of agents who participate in cultural valuation processes (citizens, professionals of creation and preservation, experts, and politicians) and the diversity of evaluative practices in which they engage within three main areas: the field of cultural participation, the field of cultural production and heritage, and the field of cultural administration. The book shows the irreducible plurality of the values of culture, the characteristic complexity of the dynamics of valuation and evaluation in the cultural sphere, and the current shortcomings and possible improvements in institutional processes of cultural evaluation. It is essential reading for cultural professionals, policymakers, and scholars of culture

Cold War Art Worlds
Prague as a vital Cold War hub for South Asian artists. During the Cold War, the Central-European capital city Prague, along with other previously less noticed locations in the polarised post-war world, emerged as a key site where an art world of particular importance for artists from South Asia developed. By emphasising cultural mobility as a catalyst for exchange and network building, this book challenges and complicates assumptions about Cold War binaries of East and West and the polarisation between so-called totalitarian regimes and free cultures. Positioning Prague as a nexus where South-Asian modernisms intersected with multiple peoples, histories, and ideologies in the post-World War II era, it offers a narrative of decolonisation that rejected rigid systemic alignment in favour of participation across blocs by prioritising migratory aesthetics over nationalist parochialism. Well-researched and rich in archival materials, this book proposes new ways of writing art histories and makes a significant contribution to both Cold War studies and critical global modernism studies
Talking the Talk of Culture and Sustainability
The very etymology of accounting reminds us that to account is not only to measure, but also to tell stories – stories that shape how we see, value, and justify the world. But what stories are told when it comes to sustainability, and how are they told? This book discusses the intricate genealogy of the relationship between sustainability and the cultural sector, tracing its journey from radical promise to managerial mantra. Focusing on how cultural organisations – especially UNESCO World Heritage Sites – translate sustainability into plans, metrics, and reports, it exposes the fragile balance between ideals and implementation, between universal frameworks and organisational realities. Through a critical reading of “sustainability talk,” it reveals both the complicity and the creative potential of sustainability reporting – as a space where power, responsibility, and meaning collide. Ultimately, it calls for sustainability to be reclaimed as a cultural practice: plural, dialogical, and profoundly human

Exultet in Material und Raum
Exultet iam angelica turba coelorum! – Rejoice, choirs of angels! – these words mark the beginning of the Easter Proclamation; its opening word, Exultet, gave its name to the manuscripts in which the proclamation was recorded as a central part of the Easter liturgy. The Exultet rolls, which originated between the 10th and 14th centuries, mainly in Apulia and Campania, combine writing, images and musical notation in a unique way. This book is the first to examine the material and media characteristics of the rolls from an interdisciplinary perspective, focusing not only on the objects themselves, but also on their use and perception in the Beneventan liturgy. It shows the extent to which the rolls contributed visually, aurally and olfactorily to the constitution of liturgical and social spaces. Exultet iam angelica turba coelorum!

A Grid-Forming Control Concept from Power System Perspective
The increasing deployment of inverter-based resources (IBRs) in power systems has fundamentally shifted their roles, requiring them to deliver many grid services traditionally provided by synchronous machines. While most existing IBRs are grid-following, tracking the system frequency, the vision of a 100 % converter-operated grid requires these resources to establish grid voltage and frequency actively. This transformation necessitates grid stability, adequate response to disturbances, and reliable ancillary services, thereby leading to the emergence of advanced Grid-Forming (GFM) control strategies. These approaches leverage the speed and flexibility of power electronic converters alongside the stabilizing characteristics of synchronous machines, enabling effective support for microgrids and bulk power systems. This thesis introduces a novel GFM converter control strategy from a power system perspective that attains global stability. The approach is developed in three phases. In Phase 1, the 'Phase Restoring Principle' (PRP) is introduced, which utilizes an innovative angular transformation to generate a nominal grid frequency without an additional master control. Hence, emulating an ideal source with infinite inertia and the response is free of undesirable swing dynamics. Building on this foundation, Phase 2 incorporates an enhanced active power control to achieve steady-state active power limitation and facilitates cooperation with other sources through arbitrary setpoint dispatches. Phase 3 addresses current limitations based on the voltage magnitude limiter concept with innovative usage of anti-windup methods. Thus, protecting semiconductor devices during severe faults while preserving GFM characteristics. Comprehensive validation is provided through analytical derivations, numerical simulations in various simulation domains, and a laboratory environment by adopting Power-Hardware-in-the-Loop tests. The results confirm global stability and robust performance across various network configurations, demonstrating that the developed control scheme is mature and viable for practical GFM field applications.
