Forensisches Auftreten
Disclosing God in Action
This Special Issue Reprint explores British evangelicalism through the lens of its contemporary practices. It brings together fourteen original articles and an Editorial by evangelical scholars reflecting theologically on British evangelical practices. They do so critically and reflexively but also constructively, through asking how God’s action is disclosed in these practices. Together, the nineteen authors and editors address a wide range of practices, which are organised into three broad sections—worship, ministry and mission, and method. Practices include testimony, divorce, Bible engagement, rule of life, confession, youth ministry, entrepreneurship, and summer camps. The Editorial identifies common themes across the articles, such as ways in which the authors are self-critical of their own tradition; how definitions of evangelicalism are nuanced and broadened in these reflections on practice; and the surprising ways in which God is discerned as being at work. In addition, it notes how authors spoke of God in action, as well as the vehicles identified for this action. This Reprint will be an invaluable resource for all those with an interest in evangelicalism who would like to expand their understanding of the tradition through these reflective accounts of what evangelicals actually do

The Archaeology of South-East Italy in the First Millennium BC
Synthesizing some 30 years of archaeological research in south-east Italy, this book discusses a millennium that witnessed breathtaking changes: the first millennium BC. In nine to ten centuries the Mediterranean societies changed from a great variety of mostly small entities of predominantly tribal nature into the enormous state currently indicated as the Roman Empire.,This volume is a case study discussing the pathway to complexity of one of the regions that contributed to the formation of this large state:south-east Italy. It highlights how initially small groups developed into complex societies, how and why these adapted to increasingly wide horizons, and how and why Italic groups and migrants from the eastern Mediterranean interacted and created entirely new social, economic, cultural and physical landscapes. This synthesis is based on research carried out by many Italian archaeologists and by research groups from quite a variety of other countries.Amsterdam Archaeological Studies is a series devoted to the study of past human societies from the prehistory up into modern times, primarily based on the study of archaeological remains. The series will include excavation reports of modern fieldwork; studies of categories of material culture; and synthesising studies with broader images of past societies, thereby contributing to the theoretical and methodological debates in archaeology

Intercultural Self-Defence
Based on the author’s 25 years of experience in researching and teaching interculturality, Intercultural Self-Defence: A Resource Book for Students, Teachers and Researchers is a compelling exploration of the subtle forces that shape Intercultural Communication Education and Research (ICER). The Resource Book delves into the adversaries lurking within ICER - indoctrination, intellectual inertia and linguistic indifference - and unveils how they can stifle genuine understanding and growth. Each chapter acts as a critical lens, scrutinising the boundaries between education and indoctrination, the stagnation of thought and the perils of linguistic complacency. The author illustrates the impact of these forces on interculturality and the ethical implications they carry. The book contains a series of activities designed to encourage creative self-reflection and fosters a deeper understanding of the interplay between language, power and interculturality. But it is more than a resource: It is a manifesto for continuous learning, active engagement and the pursuit of a more inclusive and dynamic field of intercultural communication education and scholarship. Advocating a vigilant and self-reflexive approach, the book will serve as a critical guide for students, teachers and researchers specialising in intercultural research and education to navigate the complexities of interculturality. A Corpus Linguistic Approach to Analyzing "Empathy"
This volume offers an in-depth corpus linguistic analysis of the word “empathy” aiming to foster unique insights into a word widely found across contemporary discourses and into methodological innovations for analyzing large corpora. Given the understanding of empathy’s importance for individual and social development, A Corpus Linguistic Approach to Analyzing “Empathy” demonstrates the potential of a corpus approach to shed new light on a significant yet difficult-to-define concept. Fusari systematically applies the use of concordances and other corpus output to derive patterns and recurrent phraseologies in the 36+ billion-word electronic corpus, English Web 2020, to help readers grapple with key ideas around empathy. Such questions include what we really mean by empathy, whether it is always positive, whether it is learned or innate, and whether empathy is truly what “makes us human”. The book contends with these questions across disciplines, from the clinical to the psychological and philosophical to the linguistic and discursive. Opening new areas of research into inclusive language and the use of corpus tools to analyze individual terms, this book will be of interest to students and scholars in corpus linguistics and applied linguistics, as well as such fields as cognitive science, psychology, philosophy, and allied health
Societies at an AI Crossroads
This book highlights some of the crucial crossroads – moments in which choices as to the future relationship between humans and digital technologies have to be made – that societies face in light of the growing development and adoption of AI. As contemporary societies undergo profound transformations driven by artificial intelligence and related technologies, a unilinear vision of inevitable ‘progress’ and development increasingly dominates public discourse. This book offers a counterpoint, challenging such deterministic narratives by mapping out the complex crossroads where futures ought to be shaped rather than passively received. Exploring a multiplicity of domains as diverse as education, heritage, creativity, the biological and technological boundaries of humans, work, war, and space colonialism, both the dominant (typically progressivist) and alternative (critical) ways of framing the present and the future are outlined, identifying choices to be made. The book teases out the underlying tendencies and underscores a recurring necessity to make value choices as to our further development, not only as societies but also as humanity, and in terms of regulatory choices. It reveals how decisions in these domains are shaped by ingrained intellectual, ideological, political, value-based, and economic assumptions, often hidden beneath the rhetoric of inevitability. These crossroads are not just technical or economic choices, but moral and societal: Between maximising efficiency and safeguarding plurality; between treating technological possibilities as imperatives and critically evaluating their desirability; between moral blindness and care. By illuminating the options available, the book invites readers to take an active role in choosing the future shape of societies and of humanity itself. This interdisciplinary and creative text will benefit all graduate-level and scholarly readers working on AI within the fields of media and communication, cultural studies, sociology, and cultural anthropology.
