Creativity, Society, and the Role of Socially Engaged Art in Higher Arts Education

    No full text
This interdisciplinary book explores socially engaged art as a subject of study and its relevance in higher arts education institutions' third mission—giving back to society and engaging with the community—to build a sustainable higher arts education for the future. Drawing on data from two large-scale EU-funded projects—supplemented by interviews, educational document analysis, and secondary data—this book explores emerging trends in the arts sector and the role of arts universities in cross-sector collaboration, innovation, and actions towards social and environmental responsibility. Chapters posit theoretical analysis, case studies and practically orientated examples from countries including the United States, Ghana, Indonesia, and from across Europe to explore the growing demands for the positive societal impact of higher arts education. Located at the interface between the sociology of higher arts education and community engagement, the book explores a richness of international contexts including activism, churches, refugee work, eldercare, gender politics, prisons and many others. This timely volume responds to the urgent need to investigate the full potential of socially engaged art in higher arts education. As such, it will appeal foremost to scholars, researchers, postgraduate students, and teachers in higher arts education and the sociology of education. Practitioners working in arts curriculum design, university-society partnerships, and those focused on creating inclusive and respectful spaces in higher arts education and research, will also find the volume of use

Betriebskonzepte für Batteriespeichersysteme in hochausgelasteten Übertragungsnetzen

    No full text

    Algorithmic Regimes

    No full text
Algorithms have risen to become one, if not the central technology for producing, circulating, and evaluating knowledge in multiple societal arenas. In this book, scholars from the social sciences, humanities, and computer science argue that this shift has, and will continue to have, profound implications for how knowledge is produced and what and whose knowledge is valued and deemed valid. To attend to this fundamental change, the authors propose the concept of algorithmic regimes and demonstrate how they transform the epistemological, methodological, and political foundations of knowledge production, sensemaking, and decision-making in contemporary societies. Across sixteen chapters, the volume offers a diverse collection of contributions along three perspectives on algorithmic regimes: the methods necessary to research and design algorithmic regimes, the ways in which algorithmic regimes reconfigure sociotechnical interactions, and the politics engrained in algorithmic regimes

Entre o mundo Atlântico e a Ásia: Os governantes do império português (1643-1763)

    No full text
This book analyzes the appointment formats, selection criteria, and social profiles of the governors of Paraíba (America), São Tomé (Africa), and Damão (Asia) between 1643 and 1763. These actors were key agents in maintaining Portuguese authority in different parts of the vast overseas empire, and the decision-making process for their appointment was of singular importance to the Portuguese Crown. The central question to be addressed is whether the recruitment models for these officials were similar in the Atlantic world and in Asia. To carry out the research, prosopographic methodology and global and comparative history approaches were adopted, and the historical sources used correspond predominantly to the documentary collections preserved in the Overseas Historical Archive (codices and individual manuscripts) and in the National Archive of Torre do Tombo (Chancelleries, General Register of Mercies, Qualifications of military orders and the Holy Office), in addition to consultations with members of the kingdom's Council of State, scattered across various collections.

    No full text
Studies on Administrative Sciences within the Framework of the Sustainable Development Goals offers a valuable contribution to the discussion on sustainability from perspectives seldom explored in academic literature—administration, economics, and accounting. The work brings together original research that examines, through an interdisciplinary lens, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set forth in the United Nations 2030 Agenda. Rather than following the numerical order of the SDGs, the volume organizes its chapters by thematic areas, allowing readers to identify connections between global challenges and local realities. Ultimately, this compilation invites plural dialogue, critical reflection, and collective action, demonstrating that the SDGs can only be achieved through collaborative and interdisciplinary approaches.

The here collected contributions relating to the 46th International Conference of the Representation Disciplines Teachers, organized jointly by Sapienza University of Rome, Roma Tre University, and San Raffaele Roma University, aim to offer the scientific community a reflection on the theoretical and methodological aspects related to the concept of èkphrasis, a term that, in the field of representation, concerns descriptive, analogical, and digital activities that generate new knowledge in several areas of application. The Conference aims to place at the center of the discussion an interpretation of the concept of research that, without neglecting an idea of study, protection, and enhancement of environmental and cultural heritage, focuses on the needs of contemporary society and its possible developments, making use of innovative theoretical, methodological, and operational activities, including those characterized by an interdisciplinary approach. According to this interpretation, research can also be seen as a foreshadowing of the definition and testing of experimental proposals aimed at exploring new areas of investigation: this opens up imaginative and utopian perspectives in the relationship between the sciences, the arts, and the disciplines that contribute to common goals, through the experimentation of methods, techniques, and languages for conceiving, prefiguring, designing, and representing

The Romano-British villa and prehistoric settlement at Low Ham, Somerset

    No full text
This full publication of the Roman villa at Low Ham, Somerset (UK), brings together for the first time multiple pieces of research undertaken at the site over the past 80 years. Originally discovered in 1945 and famous for its Dido and Aeneas mosaic, work by H S L Dewar and C A Ralegh Radford revealed substantial sections of what is now known to be a large courtyard villa. R H Leech carried out landscape and aerial research in the 1970s, and having conferred with the original excavators, began a publication project. Successive geophysical surveys by Historic England in the early 2000s led to further excavation work in 2018, supervised by D Roberts. This volume contains a review of structural findings from the 1940s, the detailed stratigraphic sequence revealed in 2018, and specialist reports on the findings from both campaigns. It puts forward an integrated narrative of the villa structure, contextualises both the Roman and the newly discovered prehistoric archaeology, and includes a synthesis of the material culture and environmental evidence. The authors demonstrate the development of Low Ham from an unenclosed Middle to Late Iron Age settlement, through early Roman enclosure, to the establishment and development of one of the most elaborate and extensive 4th-century AD villas in Britannia
