Energy Cluster Policies for Sustainable Industrial Transformation
No full textEnvironmental changes and related public policies require an energy-focused sustainable industrial transformation (SIT) that reconciles economic, environmental, and social objectives. Local energy clusters are conducive to these transformative processes since they represent institutional structures that link key actors and factors in territorial communities to form niches for the green transition. However, SIT policies at the local level are in a nascent stage, and empirical evidence on these processes remains scarce. Furthermore, it is necessary to advance a conceptual background for SIT and identify the development conditions for territorial energy communities. In response to these theory- and policy-related challenges, this monograph aims to conceptualize the role of energy cluster policies in SIT using an institutional approach, as well as to identify the progress of the energy cluster policies and the development stages, drivers, and obstacles of local energy clusters. The author’s empirical basis will be Polish energy clusters analyzed against international policies and experience in territorial energy communities. This book provides unique value by developing an institutional analytical framework for energy cluster policies, identifying the conditions for the development of energy clusters, and proposing actionable policy recommendations in this area. This volume provides a wide range of perspectives on the current state and future of the field in an effort to further that dialogue, and to encourage continued exploration of how we make and share knowledge and meaning in the digital age. Digital editing and publishing in the twenty-first century brings together twenty chapters that cover practical design processes and conceptual approaches to editing born-digital material. The collection also engages with timely, important, and often-neglected topics, including accessibility, artificial intelligence, queer approaches to editing, and the data edition. Resilience as Heritage in Asia
No full textResilience as Heritage in Asia analyzes forms of collective resilience through manifestations of strength-in-fragility in selected communities in Asia (Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand). Persistent resistance to communal erasure taking place through repressive policies and commercialized, multinational urban development insensitive to local communities and values often presents an uphill battle. Some of these collective efforts to survive through persistent everyday actions, encounters, and constant struggles have successful outcomes, while others are ephemeral at best. The authors argue that persisting vernacular spaces located between resistance and co-optation are themselves a form of local cultural heritage in the rapidly urbanizing region. Recognizing these nonconformist forms of resilience as heritage acknowledges the creativity involved in challenging social and political inequalities. Supporting the cultural autonomy of local communities by acknowledging resilience as heritage contributes to social justice in the region
