Gestalten der Zukunft
This volume is a multidisciplinary collection of articles exploring the temporal and material relationship between the future and the present. Contributors examine ideological fixations; the acoustics; narratives; and reading modes of the future; as well as the consequences of heteronomous versus self-determined futures. Central to this is the assumption that futures emerge within social practices and cultural narratives. The emerging shapes of the future are examined in their roles as societal and individual points of orientation; opening them up for discussion and reinterpretation. With contributions by Filiz Aksoy | Carolin Becklas | Irina Dannenberg | Jan Tobias Fuhrmann | Sonka Hinders | Arne Kuhlmann | Annika Lübben | Karina Moritzen | Anna-Christine Pilz | Hannah Rotthaus | Tobias Stadle
Pensar para resolver
This book examines how research-based teaching practices, implemented in public schools in Medellín, foster problem-solving and critical thinking. Adopting a qualitative approach and a multiple case study design, it analyzes how cross-disciplinary curricula that integrate inquiry and project-based learning contribute to active learning processes.
The work underscores that placing research processes at the core of the curriculum encourages students to develop critical thinking skills and greater autonomy in problem resolution. It also stresses the importance of teachers understanding the research-based approach promoted by their institutions, enabling them to adapt their pedagogical practices, guide students effectively, and meet established learning objectives. Embedding research across all subjects transforms inquiry into a unifying thread, promoting active and reflective thinking.
NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) and blockchain are revolutionizing the art market by offering advantages in terms of traceability and authenticity of works. Through blockchain, every transaction is recorded transparently and immutably, ensuring provenance and control over the circulation of the artwork. NFTs certify the uniqueness of a digital work, acting as a guarantee of authenticity and tracking each ownership transfer. Additionally, NFTs enable the tokenization of art, breaking ownership into shares, making it accessible to a broader audience and creating new investment and engagement opportunities

NS-Verfolgung und Militärjustiz in Wien
During the final years of the war, two Wehrmacht courts were housed in the former bank building at Hohenstaufengasse 3 in Vienna. 69 people were sentenced to death there. This book examines the role of Nazi military jurisdiction in Vienna, its actors, and its victims. The book uses the bank building on Hohenstaufengasse, which was used as a military court during the Nazi era, as a starting point to examine the work of Wehrmacht justice in Vienna from various perspectives. Through the first-ever evaluation of all proceedings of the Field Military Court of Division No. 177, which had a branch on Hohenstaufengasse, both the specific number of victims and the work of the Wehrmacht judges are presented in detail. The articles provide insights into the fates of the victims, the functioning of the military court bureaucracy, and its interaction with the Nazi persecution institutions that established themselves in Vienna after the Anschluss
The Little Database
A poetics for reading the everyday objects that populate a hard drive Bespoke online archives like PennSound and Eclipse host an astounding array of “old media” artifacts, posing a handcrafted counterpoint to the immense databases aggregated by digital titans like Google and Facebook. In The Little Database, Daniel Scott Snelson argues for the significance of these comparatively “small” collections, exploring how digital archives dramatically transform the artifacts they host and how they might help us better understand our own private collections in turn. Examining curated collections such as Textz, UbuWeb, and the Electronic Poetry Center, Snelson explores media-specific works by poets and artists, including William Carlos Williams, Tracie Morris, bill bissett, Nam June Paik, and Vicki Bennett. He develops creative tools and contingent methods for reading cultural data, whether found on the internet or in our own collections of TXT, JPG, MP3, and MOV artifacts, presenting case studies to show how these objects have come to find revised meaning in their digital contexts. Along the way, experimental poetic interludes give readers practical entry points into the creative practice of producing new meanings in any given little database. Inventive and interdisciplinary, The Little Database grapples with the digitized afterlives of cultural objects, showing how the past is continually reconfigured to shape the present. It invites readers to find playful and personal means for unpacking their own data collections, in the process discovering idiosyncratic ways to explore and connect with digital archives. Chapter Economic inequality in early fourteenth-century Siena and in its countryside: evidence from the Tavola delle Possessioni (1316-20)
The paper presents the first statistically up-to-date analysis of economic inequality in early fourteenth-century Siena and in three rural settlements by integrating an existing database with a selected study of the Tavola delle Possessioni (1316-8), the earliest and most complete fiscal cadaster for an Italian medieval city. For Siena, the paper shows the highest level of economic inequality in Tuscany before 1348 and analyzes the distribution of immovable property at both geographical and household levels. The study of the Sienese countryside is still preliminary and contextualizes the statistical evidence found at the agricultural and socio-economic levels
2: Disrupting gender in feminist security narratives
The question “where are the women?” has long guided feminist scholarship, including in Feminist Security Studies. In this chapter, we complicate the question by exploring the notion of woman through adjacent literatures that point out the always contextual nature of womanhood and gender more generally. Drawing on postcolonial, intersectional, and indigenous feminisms, we probe how feminist security narratives can become less narrow and live up to their feminist potential. It is our contention that through a wider discussion of womanhood and gender more generally, we will be able to construct more complete, less exclusionary narratives of security. Our discussion has both theoretical and methodological implications, but also direct relevance for feminist policymaking.Publishe
Ostrannenie
Ostrannenie (‘making it strange’) has become one of the central concepts of modern artistic practice, ranging over movements including Dada, postmodernism, epic theatre, and science fiction, as well as our response to arts. Coined by the ‘Russian Formalist’ Viktor Shklovsky in 1917, ostrannenie has come to resonate deeply in Film Studies, where it entered into dialogue with the Brechtian concept of Verfremdung, the Freudian concept of the uncanny and Derrida's concept of différance. Striking, provocative and incisive, the essays of the distinguished film scholars in this volume recall the range and depth of a concept that since 1917 changed the trajectory of theoretical inquiry
