Updates on Caries Management in the Primary and Permanent Dentition

    No full text
The aim of the following reprint is to provide the reader with the latest updates on caries management in primary and permanent dentition. This Special Issue contains articles presenting innovative approaches, high-quality clinical, epidemiological, and dental public health research, and translational research in the field of caries management. Focuses include aspects of preventive, non-invasive, minimally invasive, and operative dentistry in children and adults. Primarily, clinical trials are looking, for example, at the use of silver (diamine) fluoride. Interestingly, this product seems to be experiencing a renaissance, leading to an expanded treatment spectrum, especially in pediatric dentistry. Alternatively, non-clinical study types demonstrate the facets of current research in cariology that aim to produce a large body of evidence, such as systematic reviews, or focus on possible clinical implications, such as decision-making in caries management. As a result, readers with both scientific and clinical backgrounds can gain important recent insights into various aspects of cariology from this reprint

Effect of Long-Term Insomnia on Mental Health

    No full text
The purpose of this reprint is to explain the health-related factors, mechanisms, and consequences of mental health problems associated with chronic sleep disorders. The reprint presents how insomnia and sleep disorders affect mental health across genders and high-risk groups, including populations such as university students, healthcare workers, firefighters, people with ADHD symptoms, people with chronic spinal pain, and patients of forensic hospitals suffering from chronic neuropsychiatric disorders. By integrating findings from diverse demographic and clinical groups, the reprint provides insight into how chronic sleep disorders intersect with mental health, offering guidance for targeted interventions and public health policies. The reprint highlights the impact of contextual factors, including the COVID-19 pandemic, occupational stress, and digital media exposure, on sleep hygiene and mental well-being. The researchers examined how the currently observed risks associated with the use of modern technology, such as mobile screen addiction and online gaming disorder, impact specific aspects of mental health, including insomnia, stress, anxiety, and depression. Such a multifaced and comprehensive approach can be helpful for health-related organizations, healthcare professionals, and policymakers to develop the best strategies for prevention and psychological intervention for people at risk

Children Who Survived a School Shooting and Chose to Teach

    No full text
Written from the first-person perspective of a Columbine shooting survivor, this book documents the experiences of a group of school shooting survivors who went on to become teachers. More than 25 years after the shooting on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School, the policies and practices in place to prevent school shootings do not seem to be working. In fact, school shootings have increased since 1999 and continue to increase. Through a phenomenological study of the author’s own experiences, as well as 11 other Columbine survivors who went on to become teachers, this book examines how surviving a school shooting has impacted every aspect of their personal and professional lives. The participants offer ideas and suggestions on how to decrease school shootings, sharing candid stories about bullying at Columbine, as well as the ways that teachers helped save their lives on the day of the shooting, and their views on the idea of arming teachers. The book concludes with recommendations for survivor-informed best practices for US schools, adding an essential and often overlooked perspective to the debate around making teachers responsible for preventing school shootings. A forward-looking and unique addition to the conversation about school shootings, this book is an essential resource for researchers, faculty, scholars, and post-graduate students with interests in education, criminology, school shootings, restorative justice, trauma studies, suicide prevention, and bullying

Benthic Biodiversity from Microbes to Multicellular Organisms and Its Functional Interplays

    No full text
This Special Issue explores the assessment of benthic biodiversity, spanning microbes, protists, megafauna, and fish, and its responses to both natural and human-induced drivers. It emphasizes how these communities influence key ecosystem functions such as biogeochemical fluxes and material transport across the seafloor. Despite advances in marine ecology, much of the benthic realm—particularly beyond macrofauna—remains poorly understood. By bringing together observational, experimental, and modeling approaches, this collection provides new insights into the complex dynamics of benthic communities and their reactions to environmental gradients and anthropogenic pressures

    Standardisierte Sinnstiftung?

    No full text

Crop Functional Genomics and Biological Breeding

    No full text
Over the past two decades, the rapid development of functional genomics has gradually clarified the regulatory effects of genotypes on phenotypes. Crop breeding researchers have discovered numerous genes influencing critical traits such as yield, resistance, and quality. By targeting these genes, scientists have achieved a more customized variety of breeding through biological breeding. Crop functional genomics research is a vital pathway for biological breeding. Understanding the functional genomics of crops provides deep insights into the genetic mechanisms controlling key traits like yield, stress resistance, and quality improvement. The goal of this Special Issue in Plants, “Crop Functional Genomics and Biological Breeding”, is to present an overview of the latest research and discoveries in crop functional genomics from plant journals, including studies on gene responses to stresses through whole-genome and transcriptome analyses and the identification and cloning of new genes related to crop yield, resistance, germination, and quality, and also covers functional analyses of these genes and their applications in biological breeding. We welcome all readers to this Reprint that covers several fields: the genetic and functional characterization of genes regulating critical agronomic traits or plant development; the genetic improvement in crops using modern biotechnologies, such as gene editing; and the discovery, characterization and application of germplasm resources with elite characteristics
