Critical readings of development under colonialism : towards a political economy for liberation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories
Lagergren equation: can maximum loading of sorption replace equilibrium loading?
In this article, a modified formulation of the well known Lagergren pseudo first order rate
equation is suggested. The equation is obtained simply by substituting the mass balance
equation of a single stage batch-type system into integrated first order rate equation. The
suggested new formulation relies on maximum sorption (or removal) rather than equilibrium
sorption, as given by Lagergren equation. The exact value of equilibrium sorption is
not easy to define in many cases, and it is shown that the modified formulation provides
better correlation with sorption data when the process is far from completion
Trends of tourism in Bethlehem, Palestine : 1994-2015
Within the Holy Land, Bethlehem is a must see destination. Bethlehem’s permanent and inherent desirability
endows tourism-related businesses located there with a sustainable foundation for economic growth
and a comparative advantage within the regional and global tourism markets. Th is study analyzes trends in
Palestinian tourism and hospitality industries within the city of Bethlehem in the West Bank of the State of
Palestine from 1994-2015. According to the research fi ndings from time series and index number methods,
hospitality and tourism indicators in Bethlehem oscillated with changes in the local political and economic
environment and shifts in the global economic climate. Th e recent elevation of the stature of the State of
Palestine in the international community and its steps toward future full statehood could mark a new era
for cooperation between Palestine and Israel, assuming increased international pressure to do so. Th e study’s
fi ndings support policies advocating greater economic cooperation between Palestinians and Israelis as a means
of promoting sustainable peace through economic liberalization of the Palestinian economy, beginning with
tourism-related activitie

The lexical origin of traditional measure and eeight units in the colloquial of Hebron District
Published in : Wiener Zeitschrift für die Kunde des Morgenlandes ; band 105, pp. 69-83A considerable number of traditional terms to denote units of measurement and weight are used in the colloquial of Hebron district. This terminology has been essentially used by people living in that area to measure quantities, to perform commercial transactions (including bartering and trading with money), to distribute agricultural and animal products, and in the buying and selling of land. This paper will provide an ethnographic and comparative lexical study of each term for the units of measurement. The ethnographic section will provide a definition of each unit in terms of its numerical value, and the measured materials or objects. The comparative lexical section will trace the etymology, meaning, and the appearance of each term in the ancient Semitic and non-Semitic languages that were predominant in the area of study. This study is an attempt, firstly, to document these units as it has become apparent that many of them are dying out as they were being replaced with the modern metric and imperial systems. Secondly, it attempts to trace the lexical origins of these terms, since it has also become apparent that many of these units have counterparts, and sometimes even originated in the ancient Semitic and non-Semitic languages
Agricultural terms in the Arabic dialects of Antioch and Ramallah : an ethnographic and lexical comparison
comparison of dialects, Ramallah and AntakiaThis article deals with etymological comparisons of some of the names of the agricultural tools and objects in the Arabic dialects of Antioch and Ramallah. We suppose that the names gathered from both dialects, one dialect located on the northern edge (Arabic dialect of Karaali (Qrālī) in the district of Antioch) and the other situated on the southern edge (Arabic dialect of Birzeit in Ramallah) of the Syrian dialect expansion, would display common linguistic affinities regarding the etymology and the meaning. The study aims to explore the supposed common etymological affinities. Keywords: Arabic dialects, Agricultural terms, Etymology, Antioch, Ramalla
pMD-membrane : a method for ligand binding site identification in membrane-bound proteins
Probe-based or mixed solvent molecular dynamics simulation is a useful approach for the identification and characterization of druggable sites in drug targets. However, thus far the method has been applied only to soluble proteins. A major reason for this is the potential effect of the probe molecules on membrane structure. We have developed a technique to overcome this limitation that entails modification of force field parameters to reduce a few pairwise non-bonded interactions between selected atoms of the probe molecules and bilayer lipids. We used the resulting technique, termed pMD-membrane, to identify allosteric ligand binding sites on the G12D and G13D oncogenic mutants of the K-Ras protein bound to a negatively charged lipid bilayer. In addition, we show that differences in probe occupancy can be used to quantify changes in the accessibility of druggable sites due to conformational changes induced by membrane binding or mutation
