Teacher leadership and bullying management: a qualitative study of discipline in SJKC and SJKT schools in Kuala Pilah district
Bullying remains a prevalent issue in schools, affecting students across various backgrounds. While much focus has been placed on the victims and perpetrators, the role of teacher leadership in managing such discipline issues is critical yet under-explored. This study investigates how teacher leadership contributes to the management of bullying in Chinese (SJKC) and Tamil (SJKT) National Type Schools in the Kuala Pilah District. Using a qualitative approach, 10 teachers were interviewed using snowball sampling to gain insights into their leadership strategies and their role in student discipline. Findings suggest that teacher leadership, including reinforcement and punishment strategies, plays a vital role in curbing bullying and improving overall school discipline. The study highlights the importance of teacher intervention and leadership in maintaining school order and fostering a safer environment for students
The effect of different citric acid concentration on physicochemical and antioxidant properties of Red Pitaya peel gummy candies
Red pitaya peels (RPP), often discarded as waste, are rich in betacyanin, making them a potential natural colourant for food products such as gummy candy. However, citric acid may influence the quality and stability of the colourant. This study examined the physicochemical, antioxidant, and sensory properties of RPP gummy candies with different citric acid concentrations. The RPP were dehydrated, ground into powder, and incorporated into gummy formulations. Citric acid significantly reduced water activity (p<0.05), lowered pH, and increased titratable acidity. Colour analysis showed a significant rise (p<0.05) in a* value with higher citric acid, indicating a redder colour. Samples containing 3% citric acid exhibited a marked reduction (p<0.05) in chewiness. Antioxidant properties were also affected, with the 3% citric acid sample showing the highest total phenolic content (0.91 mg GAE/g) and DPPH radical scavenging activity (40.73%). However, total betacyanin content declined significantly (p<0.05) in samples with citric acid, ranging from 0.55-0.85 mg/g, compared to 1.79 mg/g with 0% citric acid. Sensory evaluation revealed that the 2% citric acid sample received the highest scores for most attributes, suggesting an optimal balance between flavour and texture. Overall, the study highlights the potential of RPP as a natural colourant and demonstrates how varying citric acid concentrations impact the physical, antioxidant, and sensory qualities of gummy candy. These findings underscore the importance of optimising citric acid levels to maintain both the functional and sensory attributes of RPP-infused gummy candies
Haar wavelet collocation method for solving boundary layer flow and heat transfer over a moving plate in a carbon nanotubes with MHD effect
This study aims to explore the consideration of boundary layer flow and heat transfer over a moving plate with the presence of the magneto-hydrodynamics at the surface in carbon nanotubes. The mathematical model for the boundary layer flow problem is obtained and solved using numerical techniques based on Haar wavelet collocation. The types of nanoparticles used in this research were single-walled carbon nanotubes and multi-walled carbon nanotubes with water and kerosene that were used as base fluid. The partial differential equations are transformed into nonlinearly ordinary differential equations by similarity transformation. Maple software is used to work on these equations. The results were represented in the formation of graphs including velocity and temperature profile, skin friction coefficient and local Nusselt number for different values of magnetic field, CNTs volume friction and moving parameter. The outcomes obtained are that the moving plate gives non-unique solutions. In addition, the increments of magnetic field into the flow will increase value of skin friction coefficient and the heat transfer coefficient
Bibliometric analysis and systematic review of digital competence in education
The ubiquity of digital technologies has profoundly transformed communication and education in the 21st century, making the development of digital competence essential for both teachers and students to be prepared for the digital age. However, existing reviews predominantly focus on the teachers’ perspective with a limited scope and methodology. This literature review combines bibliometric analysis and systematic literature review to provide a comprehensive analysis of existing research. Bibliometric analysis evaluates performance and science mapping to identify influential journals, countries, and authors while visualizing trends in the field. Content analysis identifies five major themes: (1) digital competence levels, (2) factors and variables, (3) digital competence and teacher education, (4) students’ digital competence, and (5) digital competence and academic performance. The study also outlines seven future research directions: (1) integrating digital competence into curricula, (2) initial training in digital competence for future professions, (3) subject-specific development, (4) expanding research samples to include younger students, (5) addressing limitations of self-assessment, (6) understanding the needs of teachers and students, and (7) strengthening administrative support. Overall, the review highlights challenges in measuring digital competence and underscores the need for its integration into education systems, offering insights into opportunities for future research
