What Motivates People to Pay Zakat, Infaq, Sadaqah and Waqf (Ziswaf) through Online Crowdfunding Platforms?

Online crowdfunding platforms are web-based platforms designed for fundraising through a collaborative concept. These platforms are claimed to enhance interest in Zakat, Infaq, Sadaqah and Waqf (ZISWAF) contributions due to the convenience they offer. To evaluate this claim, this study aims to examine the influence of literacy, transparency, accountability, religiosity, and trust on the interest in fulfilling ZISWAF obligations through crowdfunding platforms in Indonesia. Employing a quantitative approach, the research involved 182 respondents from the academic community who completed an online questionnaire distributed to 15 universities with ZISWAF institutions on their campuses. The data were analysed using multiple linear regression method. The findings reveal that accountability variable does not significantly influence interest in fulfilling ZISWAF through online crowdfunding platforms in Indonesia. However, literacy, transparency, religiosity, and trust positively and significantly impact this interest. These results provide important insights into the determinants of individual interest in performing ZISWAF. Specifically, online crowdfunding platforms must ensure institutional accountability in ZISWAF fundraising activities. Additionally, platforms should increase transparency by publishing financial and other critical reports to maintain public trust. Therefore, this study contributes to the development of more effective strategies for optimizing online ZISWAF fundraisin

The Role of High-Performance Work Practices and Affective Commitment in Promoting Knowledge Sharing Behavior in Higher Education Institution

Although high-performance work practices (HPWPs) are well-known for promoting desired attitudes and behaviors among organizational members, the current literature has overlooked measuring the impact of HPWPs on knowledge sharing behavior (KSB) in the academic setting. Thus, considering the research gap and the pivotal role of knowledge sharing practices in academic institutions, this study aims to explore the aforesaid relationship in the realm of higher education institutions (HEIs) from the perspective of social exchange theory. Moreover, the study aims to explore affective commitment (AC) as a connector between HPWPs and KSB. The study amassed data conveniently using a structured questionnaire from 255 private university teachers serving in Bangladesh. The sample size was relatively small owing to limited access and the considerable time constraints of the respondents. The outcomes of SEM-PLS analysis revealed five HPWPs (i.e., selective staffing, training, performance appraisal, compensation, and participation) as successful predictors of both AC and KSB. Moreover, AC mediated the link between these five HPWPs and KSB, meaning that AC plays an important role in explaining how HPWPs influence KSB. However, clear job description did not significantly predict KSB either directly or indirectly through AC. This study introduces fresh insights into the concept of high-performance work system showing how its individual practices shape the willingness of academics to share knowledge directly and via AC. The study’s findings imply that HEIs should incorporate HPWPs (e.g., attractive compensation, participative decision-making) into their people management systems to enhance faculty members’ organizational commitment and knowledge sharing practices, thereby achieving long-term success and sustainabilit

Automated Translation Tools for Mualaf: Artificial Intelligence Solutions For Accessing Islamic Texts and Resources Across Languages

    Get PDF
This paper explores the potential of Automated Translation Tools (ATT) or AI-driven translation tools in enhancing the accessibility of Islamic knowledge for mualaf (new converts to Islam) who may face linguistic barriers. Machine translation (MT) and natural language processing (NLP) technologies let Mualaf access religious texts, educational videos, and learning materials in their native languages, bridging gaps in understanding and enabling more profound engagement with Islamic teachings. The study assesses current AI translation tools' effectiveness in religious contexts, identifies challenges in translating complex theological content, and provides recommendations for improving AI tools to support mualaf communities. The findings demonstrate that while current AI translation technologies show promise, specific cultural and religious sensitivities must be addressed for more accurate and contextually appropriate translation

Impact of Peer Pressure on Dividend Policy: Evidence From Food & Allied and Power & Fuel Sectors in Bangladesh

    Get PDF
Firms’ decisions are not independent of their peers. This study aims to assess the impact of peer pressure on firms’ dividend policy. In a sample of 29 firms from 2014–2020, this study employed a fixed effect regression model and revealed that Bangladeshi firms adjusted their dividend policy in response to their peers. Firms adjust the dividend payout ratio (DPR) by 5.6 percent as a response to their peers. Social learning theory, reputation-based model of peer influence, persuasion bias and rivalry-based theory of mimicking explain how peer influence affects a firm’s dividend policy. The findings of positive peer effects on dividend policy are robust to an alternative proxy of dividend policy – dividend yield. Therefore, the study implied that managers’decisions regarding the dividend policy are not independent of their peer firms. Investors can adjust their expectations of a firm’s dividend policy based on the overall dividend policy in the industr

Cooperative Takaful Model: A New Game Changer [Modelo Cooperativo Takaful: Un Nuevo Cambio de Juego]

    No full text
Though nowadays the Malaysian takaful industry is experiencing an average of two digit growth every year, it has been seen to be too commercialised and the mutually spirit which is treated as core concept of takaful has seen disappeared. On the other hand, takaful faces many critics for imposing terms and conditions that benefited takaful operators and not sufficient to cover the needs of the participants. Therefore, the study aims to analyse an alternative model to takaful industry in Malaysia using cooperative takaful model by analysing the mutuality and cooperative concepts and discussing few controversial issues related to existing takaful models. The study applies qualitative research method using documents analysis, focus group discussions and interviews. The findings propose the cooperative takaful model as an alternative to current models. The advantages of cooperative takaful model are the ability to uphold cooperative and mutuality concept and to reduce overdependence on the commercial based takaful. Besides, it offers several benefits to participants compared to the existing takaful models. By participating in cooperative takaful, the participant also became the owner of takaful company where some of monthly takaful contribution will be utilise for acquiring company’s share. However, there are some limitations of this model such as high paid up capital to set up the business, the existing legal system does not suit for cooperative takaful model, create dormant member issue, the issue of conflict of interest between management and participant as well as takaful operator concerns on the application of this new takaful model due to small market penetratio
