Volume frequency analysis using HEC-SSP software
In recent decades we are increasingly facing with many hydrological problems that pose a great challenge and test for humanity. Today, there is a significant need for tools that perform complex analysis of the hydrological regime. On the possible extreme events can be partially prepared and we can effectively implement measures to protect only through adequate studying, predicting and forecasting them.\ud
Knowing the interdependence of flow – duration – frequency allows more complex frequency analysis, which comprehensively defines the occurrence and impact of different interventions on the phenomena. Volume frequency analysis involves classic frequency analysis of maximum (minimum) flow within each of a set of specified durations. Average flow rates are first calculated based on different fixed durations. Then, for each duration frequency analysis of maximum (minimum) flow is performed with selected theoretical distribution.\ud
In the thesis we performed volume frequency analysis with HEC – SSP software for gauging stations in Slovenia. The entire course of volume frequency analysis is shown for gauging station Jesenice on the river Sava Dolinka. The results were used for the case of the reservoir HPP Moste, where we tried to show how the containment of flood flows with different durations influence on reducing the flow downstream of the barrier. We also determined the necessary containment volume of the reservoir for a given maximum inflow volume and the operational installed flow of the HPP Moste
Energy renovation analysis of elementary school Prade
This thesis presents an energy renovation analysis of Elementary School Prade. In the context of energy renovations were discussed measures to improve the energy efficiency of schools, and combinations of these measures. The aim of the thesis was to justify the appropriateness of the renovation from the perspective of energy efficiency. With a combination of measures for energy efficient renovation was verified the possibility of observing the provisions regarding the construction of nearly zero energy public buildings. The results showed that the school have a great potential for the realization of savings in heating and cooling energy, which means that the execution of the energy efficiency renovation is justified. The provisions regarding the construction of nearly zero energy public buildings have proved to be very challenging and difficult to obtain for an example of Elementary School Prade. There was also a need to change the method of determining the maximum allowable heat heating in the current laws
The challenges of implementing single card in a public transportation system
The use of passenger cars is still on the rise in Slovenia. We need to realise that the high usage of personal transportation causes high costs due to higher emissions. Nevertheless, numerous empty public transportation vehicles impact our enviroment even more so. Therefore, we need to strive to decrease the number of passengers who use personal transportation and increase the number of passengers who use public transportation. In order to reverse the trend and thus increase the number of public transportation users, we need to think on how to increase mobility and capacity of the public transportation system without excess interference in the existing infrastructure. Ministry of Infrastructure of Republic of Slovenia has been working on introducing an integrated public transportation system. Their goal was to make sure that the necessary preconditions are available in order to introduce a single travel ticket accross different modes of public transportation by the end of 2013. In addition, they wanted to harmonise train and bus schedules. Since it is already 2015 and this solution is still not available, this work will analyse and show where the underlying challenges lie that stand in the way of introducing a single public transportation card
Generation of an orthophoto from close range aerial images in the area of Sečovlje salina nature park
In the last few years new technologies have allowed wider use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) for spatial data acquisition. For the purpose of this thesis the UAV was used as a platform to photograph the area of Sečovlje salina nature park. From the acquired images an orthophoto mosaic of the area was produced. The client needs this orthophoto as a raster layer in GIS in order to make further analysis. This thesis describes and outlines the used UAV and the related computer program required for the planning and acquisition of close range aerial images. After completing the fieldwork, the thesis focuses on processing the acquired data and producing a final as well as for the client in semantic terms improved orthophoto. The results were evaluated by analyzing the impact of particular influences on the quality of the final product. Conclusions are given in the final part of the thesis
Design of a prestressed membrane structure
This graduation thesis presents a prestressed membrane project, i.e. a proposed canopy over a place for socializing behind the building of the Faculty for Civil and Geodetic Engineering, University of Ljubljana. In the introductory part, the fundamental principles of this kind of structures are briefly discussed, followed by basic forms and some examples. Woven technical textiles are also described and the entire process of designing is outlined,\ud
from form-finding and analysis to panelling. The thesis continues with a presentation of computer software which is used in the process of the project design. In the first phase of the designing process five outline plans are created. For all of the designs, either the form of a saddle or a cone shape, two of the most basic forms of prestressed membranes, is chosen. Furthermore, the location of the structure is precisely described, followed by the description of the materials, the details of the construction, the supporting structure selection, and the installation process. The cost estimation of each of the discussed structures is carried out. In the next chapter, the non-linear static analysis of the two selected plans is performed and concluded that there are no significant deviations from the predicted responses of the models. Finally, in the last part of the thesis, the most suitable one from the discussed structures is chosen, on which an extensive analysis and designing is carried out, and the panel plans are presented
Design of timber columns subjected to combined bending and compression
The graduation work treats analysis and design of timber columns subjected to combined\ud
bending and axial compression load. Second chapter treats elastic buckling according to theory\ud
of linear-elastic stability. It contains differential equations of deflection curve for column or\ud
beam according to elementary theory of bending, differential equations for determining Euler's\ud
critical buckling load for an ideal beam or column and also the effect of initial imperfections of\ud
geometry and eccentricity of axial compression load on the allowable stresses. Third chapter\ud
treats design of timber columns subjected to combined bending and axial compression load\ud
according to Eurocode 5. It handles design of timber elements subjected to bending, axial\ud
compression or combined bending and axial compression where buckling and lateral torsional\ud
instability can occur. Fourth chapter presents buckling analysis and nonlinear static analysis\ud
considering geometric nonlinearity effect P-delta using computer programme SAP2000. Fifth\ud
chapter presents calculated examples of design of columns according to Eurocode 5. First,\ud
fourth, fifth and sixth example present design of timber columns under centrically applied axial\ud
compression load. Second and third examples present design of timber columns under\ud
eccentrically applied axial compression load, next to comparison with analysis from the\ud
computer programme
Cost analysis of construction projects Litostroj C building
The subject of this thesis is the analysis of all expenditures related to the project - construction of\ud
Litostroj building C.\ud
First part of the thesis consists of findings on how to guarantee a quality assessment of the investment\ud
so a proper quotation, which can enable profit, can be prepared. Different cost calculation methods are\ud
considered which can be used to determine proportional value of the cost of construction, installation\ud
and finishing works since those represent the biggest share of the overall expense.\ud
The building in question itself (the project) in presented and analysed in the second part of the thesis.\ud
Everything from assessing the investment, preparing the quotation, drawing up and signing a contract\ud
and the final billing is addressed. When comparing costs mentioned in the contract with actual billing\ud
costs the project contractor managed to achieve high gross income despite first predicting otherwise.\ud
This was due to obtaining favorable quotations from subcontractors
Selection and cartographic presentation of the bicycle route EuroVelo 9 across Slovenia
Thesis discusses cartographic presentation of bicycle trail between Ljubljana and Sečevlje. The trail is\ud
a part of EuroVelo 9 bicycle route within EuroVelo project which covers a network of long distance\ud
bicycle routes over Europe. Popularity gaining bicycle tourism is presented and characteristics of\ud
typical route users are described along with their habits and requirements. Further, some popular\ud
bicycle routes in Slovenia and abroad are presented. Thesis focuses on criteria and recommendations\ud
for building long distance routes in EuroVelo network. They served as evaluation basis for possible\ud
variants of long distance route between Ljubljana and Sečovlje. By means of terrain inspection,\ud
criteria for choosing the appropriate option were proposed. All options are analysed and evaluated.\ud
The best route variant is finally presented on 17 sheets at 1 : 30 000 map scale
Proposal for spatial regulation of the equestrian school sports centre Češča vas in the municipality of Novo mesto
The purpose of the thesis statement is to create a proposal for spatial regulation of the\ud
equestrian center Češča vas and its surroundings, which include current equestrian school\ud
sports center Češča vas and the nearby velodrome. The said proposal is based on detailed\ud
analyses of wider as well as narrower area. The legal framework, norms and regulations of\ud
spatial planning are presented in the theoretical part of the thesis. The development concept\ud
of the equestrian school sports center Češča vas, linked to the existing velodrome, is based\ud
on the analyses of the area that were carried out as well as the need of an equestrian sport\ud
center.The detailed proposal for regulating the equestrian center is also based on those\ud
analyses and needs, and is seen on the map of the detailed regulation plan
Seismic vulnerability analysis of the new six-storey reinforced building
This master thesis deals with the seismic performance assessment of building of Institute of\ud
Information science in Maribor. The analyses are performed in compliance with Eurocode 8.\ud
First part of the thesis focuses on linear elastic seismic analysis of building with an objective\ud
to achieve optimal modeling of the building by using ETABS. Fifteen different models, which\ud
were split into two groups, were developed. First group contains models that are accurate\ud
and can be used to solve real problems, while the second group contains generic models\ud
that are mostly used to enhance our understanding of calculation errors that can be\ud
introduced with incorrect models. Results show us that in some cases models can be\ud
simplified. Shell, frame and combined models are useful in practical situations. For specific\ud
situation we should choose the type of model based on structure type and type of seismic\ud
analysis. The use of stiff elements for connection of vertical elements with beams and\ud
connection of frame and area elements is important for correct modeling of construction\ud
stiffness. Data about mass was also manually entered into the center of mass on storey\ud
level. Such an approach is slightly more time consuming, but significantly simplify the\ud
analysis and its results. However, it was also found that manual meshing of shell elements is\ud
too time consuming and don't have large impact on analysis results. At the end optimal size\ud
of finite elements was determined to 0,5/0,5 meters. The second part of the thesis presents\ud
simplified non-linear analysis N2 method, which was applied to the investigated building. The\ud
N2 method is combination of nonlinear static (pushover) analysis of entire building in\ud
combination of inelastic spectra based on an equivalent model with single degree of freedom\ud
(SDOF system). In model for non-linear pushover analysis, bilinear relationship between\ud
moment and rotation was taken into account at the edges of frame element. On basis of\ud
results, given by pushover analysis, limit-state displacements were determined for\ud
three states proposed by Eurocode standard: damage limitation state (DL), significant\ud
damage state (SD) and near collapse state (NC). The peak ground acceleration causing\ud
collapse was estimated to 0,53 g and 0,67g in the case of modal distribution of forces and\ud
uniform distribution of forces, respectively. It is assumed that the seismic performance of the\ud
building is acceptable since it is designed according to Eurocode 8-1. For more informed\ud
decision-making the estimated limit-state peak ground acceelerations should be compared\ud
to those values based on tolerable risk, which is beyond objectives of this thesis
