Arrangement of Dam Outlet Works Analysis
In relation to climate change, the number of floods and dry days is increasing. From ancient history\ud
man has built water reservoirs in order to protect himself from floods and drought. In last decades\ud
these structures have gained on importance especially because of their multifunctional nature which\ud
has significantly influenced, not just flood control, but also economic development of the society.\ud
Placing of such structures into environment must be carefully studied with an aim to preserve natural\ud
environment and reduce their environmental effects as much as possible. Very important part of\ud
designing a dam is arrangement and hydraulic design of outlet works. Safety of a dam and its\ud
hydraulic characteristics depend on design of outlet works. Different outlet works arrangements are\ud
described in this thesis as well as their hydraulic properties. In the last part of the thesis, hydraulic\ud
analysis of the outlet of Drtijščica dam is performed
Modelling of cohesive sediment transport with the PCFLOW3D model
The processes in cohesive and non-cohesive sediment transport differ from each other significantly.\ud
Different types of sediments are defined by different parameters. Pečovnik (2014) noted that the\ud
PCFLOW3D model does not simulate transport of cohesive sediments correctly. We suggest a simple\ud
equation which is appropriate for calculating cohesive sediments and does not contain additional\ud
measured parameters. We integrated the equation in the PCFLOW3D model and tested the upgraded\ud
model. We calculated critical shear stresses for cohesive and non-cohesive sediments and performed\ud
simulations with combinations of different circulation patterns and wave parameters. Non-cohesive\ud
sediments begin to resuspend at 0.5 m high waves, while cohesive stay at the bottom until waves reach\ud
the height 0.9 m. Furthermore, the areas and the intensity of resuspension differ significantly. Using the\ud
adopted data, the majority of bed-shear stress is induced by waves, whereas wind-induced currents\ud
contribute only an insignificant part. However, the wind direction affects the direction of currents and\ud
subsequently the direction in which suspended material is transported. We also depict the depth averaged\ud
concentrations of suspended material. The results are close to our expectations; the concentrations are\ud
increasing proportionally with wave height. Areas with the highest concentration of suspended sediment\ud
occur in places with the largest shear stress
Analysis of hydraulic conditions in steep river channel on the case of Hotoveljscica torrent
Extensive areas of steep slopes and uneven distribution of precipitation in Slovenia result in\ud
a great number of watercourses which have torrential characteristics. That is why we are on\ud
a daily basis encountering and trying to deal with problems which torrents are bringing into\ud
built environment. Computer programs used for modeling of watercourses are based on\ud
standard equations for analysing hydraulic conditions in lowland watercourses; they might\ud
not give correct results in steep torriental watercourses. This graduation thesis focuses on\ud
the issue of hydraulics of steep stream channels and the limitations when using classic\ud
hydraulic equations and mathematical hydraulic models, such as Hec-Ras. In the practical\ud
part, a specific section of the Hotoveljščica torrent is examined in terms of river-bed and\ud
hydraulic conditions additionaly, erosion processes are analyzed. An outline plan for flood\ud
protection measures ate the analyzed section of the Hotoveljščica torrent is proposed
BIM use cases for analysis of sustainability aspects
This graduation thesis explores possibilities of BIM uses for sustainable design. For that purpose I first\ud
analyzed definition and aspects of sustainable building, criteria for analysis of sustainable building\ud
according to the LEED, BREEAM and DGNB methods and identified possible BIM uses. For BIM\ud
uses I considered environmental and social aspects of sustainable building design, such as analysis of\ud
building orientation in the environment, proper shading, sufficient daylight and energy analysis.\ud
In the practical part of the thesis conceptual models for a selected case study were designed. I\ud
examined analysis of sufficient daylight, shading and exposure to the sun. In the SketchUp program I\ud
designed simple 3D model, and then used different plugins for shading and daylight analysis. Part of\ud
the building information model was imported to Velux Daylight Visualizer, in which daylight analysis\ud
was performed. Results of the daylight and shading analysis were examined according to the technical\ud
guideline TSG-1-004:2010, based on European Directive EPBD 2002 and renewed Directive EPBD\ud
2010. A simplified 3D model was created within Ecotect Analysis program for incident solar radiation\ud
analysis of the envelope. Latter data was used to determine the amount of energy received on the\ud
building envelope. Later, the energy analysis was done within Knauf Insulation Energy program on\ud
the basis of 2D blueprints. Appropriate quantities were measured in the CostX program. Energy\ud
analysis was also conducted within ArchiCAD program and Energy Evaluation plugin based on the\ud
bases of the building information model. Finally, detailed comparison of the results was made, due to\ud
possible discrepancy in results of different assumptions and input data
Calculation of deflections of reinforced concrete beam
In the thesis we present the calculation of deflections of reinforced concrete beams. We describe the\ud
factors that cause the deflections. These deflections can damage or disable the function of the\ud
construction in different ways. Rheology of concrete includes the influence of formation of\ud
deformations, due to shrinkage and creep. We take this into account with reduction of material\ud
parameters. We also emphasize the influence of cracking of reinforced concrete sections. The cracking\ud
influences the reduction of bending stiffness of the construction and consequently increased\ud
deformation. We present the most common criteria and problems which occur due to too much\ud
deflection of reinforced concrete constructions. With the help of self-made Excel program which\ud
computes the deflections of continious beams, we describe the procedure of calculating the deflections,\ud
simplification of the computation and accuracy of the computed deflection values. Standard SIST EN\ud
1992-1-1 gives the ratios between static height and span where deflection computation is not even\ud
required. With the help of the preapared program we show some computation examples, where we\ud
describe the dependencies and influence of the parameters on the deflections in reinforced concrete\ud
continious beams
Quality analysis of methods for positive determination of active GNSS networks
In this thesis, we analyzed the quality of position determination with the method of RTK in the\ud
Slovenian GNSS network SIGNAL. For position determination we used method RTK in\ud
various network concepts and using one reference station. We used network concept MAC\ud
(Eng. Master-Auxiliary Concept) and VRS (Eng. Virtual Reference Station). The quality of the\ud
position has been estimated based on the accuracy of coordinates, which was defined as the\ud
difference between the reference coordinates and the coordinates obtained by the method of\ud
RTK. Reference coordinates were obtained with GNSS static method. The quality of RTKmethod,\ud
was evaluated according to ISO 17123-8, for which we also estimated gross-errors\ud
in coordinates and removed them from the analysis. We analyzed the differences in the\ud
position quality, when we use the same network, but different GNSS receivers. We used\ud
Leica, Trimble and Javad receivers
Algorithm for accurate calculation of train travel times
This thesis deals with the travel time of trains. The basic equations, which are used to\ud
determine the forces affecting the movement of trains at any given time are, presented.\ud
Newton's second law, which describes the movement of objects, was used to establish the\ud
differential equation of a train's movement. The procedure of dividing a track based on speed\ud
limits and changes in the infrastructure is described as well in this paper. The emphasis of this\ud
thesis is on the algorithm of establishing the travel time of a random train on a random track.\ud
The algorithm includes the processing of the train's and track's input data, the modelling of the\ud
train and the track and the solving of the equation of motion by a difference equation approach\ud
using the numerical »step-by-step« method as well. The solution of the equation is a certain\ud
train's shortest travel time possible. The algorithm to calculate travel time is implemented with\ud
the Visual Basic programming language in Excel. A few calculations of specific examples which\ud
can be interesting from a designing perspective are shown in the final part of the paper
Reconstruction of Zaloška-Zadobrovška crossing
In the diploma thesis I discuss the reconstruction of the Zaloška and Zadobrovška streets crossroads. I\ud
describe the problems and reasons due to which the reconstruction is needed and closely examine the\ud
already-existing prominent projects of the crossroads and describe the positive and negative influences\ud
for the motorised and non-motorised participants respectively. Following the analysis, I present my\ud
solution, justifying it with explanation. With the help of standards and other technical specifications I\ud
determine the elements of the crossroads that I later on also illustrate with the graphic representation
Automatic orthorectification of high-resolution optical satellite images
In the doctoral dissertation we have developed a fully automated procedure for orthorectification of optical satellite images, without any manual intervention during the processing. The resulting orthorectified image is in the national coordinate system and constitutes a suitable source for spatial analyses. The original procedure connects several different methods into a single, robust system for automatic generation of orthoimages. The doctoral dissertation describes the whole automatic orthorectification process, which comprises four basic modules: a module for extracting and preparing the metadata, a module for automatic extraction of ground control points, a module for calculation of parameters of the geometric model, and a module for orthorectification. Experiments and results with RapidEye and WorldView-2 images are also presented. The experiments evaluate the procedure for automatic extraction of points, the geometric model, the elimination of gross errors, and the positional accuracy of the orthoimages. The results indicate that the automated procedure produces orthoimages with a positional accuracy of about two pixels or better, even if several gross errors are present among the automatically extracted ground control points
Regulation of traffic areas in the village Gabrovka
In this thesis the case of the common transport space is described and illustrated. It addresses the\ud
regional road through the village Gabrovka, part of which I regulated. The following are the\ud
results of measurements and observations that show the shortcomings of the road. With the help\ud
of situations, characteristic cross sections, given renovations and scenic views, the problem of\ud
road safety and suitability is shown and given solution to. Emphasis has been put on the\ud
suitability of areas for pedestrians, which is currently inapropriate. In the manufacture of the\ud
thesis I used AutoCad and SketchUp. To better show the placement of the converted part of the\ud
area, digital orthophoto has been used
