    Kinematic and paleostress evolution of the NW-SE trending "dinaric" faults in the northwestern external Dinarides

    The main regional structures in the Dinarides where accumulated lithospheric stress has been relaxed are NW-SE trending Dinaric faults. The research involves kinematic and dynamic analysis of fault-slip data on the territory of the NW External Dinarides, including Middle Triassic to Middle Miocene strata.\ud Four major Tertiary-Quaternary tectonic phases have been documented. Paleostress analysis of fault-slip data shows general stress orientations, which have been correlated by relevant mesoscopic scale deformations. Relative chronology of tectonic phases is based on field observations of structural relationships. Tectonic phases have been placed in wider geodynamic context.\ud The oldest phase is characterized by NE-SW directed compression in compressional stress regime, which has been attributted to Paleogene thrusting of the External Dinarides. The second phase is characterized by NE-SW oriented tension in extensional stress regime, which can be attributed to an influence of Middle Miocene extension in the Pannonian basin. The third phase is marked by E-W compression with N-S oriented tension in strike-slip stress regime, which could reflect cessation of subduction processes in Carpathians. The fourth phase shows N-S oriented compression with E-W oriented tension in strike-slip stress regime, which coincides with recent stress state of the region. The Triassic and Jurassic stress regimes have been evaluated according to the orientation of observed extensional structures.\ud The structural model of NW External Dinarides teritory has been suggested according to the obtained results, which could be an usefull basis for the assessment of earthquake hazard, geomechanic rock stability and hydrogeological aquifer characteristics of the area

    Seismic performance assessment of the former administration building of RŽS Idrija

    In this thesis, the seismic performance assessment of the former administration building of RŽS Idrija is investigated. The first part of the thesis presents the behaviour of masonry buildings under seismic actions, and typical failure mechanisms of masonry walls, followed by the provisions of the Eurocode 8-3 standard, which deal with seismic assessment of existing buildings. Further on, the simplified N2 method based on non-linear static (pushover) analysis is introduced, followed by the presentation of 3Muri software. The second part of the thesis begins with a description of the administration building, which was build out of stone and brick masonry walls without adequate floor-to-wall connections. Not knowing the exact quality of the existing materials, three sets of mechanical properties for both types of masonry were obtained from the literature. The seismic performance assessment was based on five models of the structure each with different combination of mechanical properties of stone and brick masonry. The results of the deterministic analysis have shown that the building is incapable of withstanding the expected design ground acceleration ag = 0,23 g and does not meet the requirements of the Eurocode 8 standard. The great vulnerability of the structure is a consequence of very low shear strength values of the masonry, which were assessed from previous studies and, in accordance with Eurocode 8-3, divided by the confidence factor CF = 1,35. Different combinations of mechanical properties of masonry have lead to different types of failure mechanisms of the structure. Due to small differences between shear strength values of the materials the seismic resistance of our models did not differ significantly. The seismic shear coefficient SRCu was between 0,09 and 0,12 which complied with the coefficient estimated in the POTROG (2013) project. It is estimated that the limit-state peak ground acceleration is most likely underestimated, which is the consequence of safety factors that need to be considered in the case of incomplete knowledge of the structure

    This thesis presents the web maps viewer adaption for smartphones. The first part describes\ud development of the media maps, with the emphasis on mobile cartography description. The concept\ud of mobile cartography, user tasks in a mobile environment, design and adaptation of mobile maps are\ud described. The second part introduces smartphones, their connection to the Internet and their operating\ud systems. Practical part of the thesis includes the presentation of the mobile tourist map of Novo mesto\ud creation. Tourism in Novo mesto is briefly described, editorial plan preparation is made and the actual\ud procedure of making this map is presented. The map testing, eventual possibilities and solutions for\ud upgrading are discussed, too

    Slovenian, european and international standards for spatial data

    This paper presents a twenty-year development and outcomes \ud of ISO technical committee (TC) 211 – Geographic \ud Information/Geomatics, which has developed around 66 \ud ISO standards, technical reports and amendments (group \ud with 191xx ISO number). Further development in the field \ud of geoinformation affects the continuation, maintenance and \ud updating of deliverables that is evident from the TC program \ud for the coming years. The planned output will be a set of \ud additional 24 new or revised ISO standards and technical \ud specifications. The impact of open standards (OGC) in \ud the domain of formal standardization is also outlined. \ud Furthermore, the paper describes the renewed activities of \ud CEN/TC 287 GI, which adopts ISO standards of TC 211 \ud as European standards (EN). Also the role of SIST/TC GIG \ud is presented that follows the activities of both the mentioned \ud technical committees and adopts adequate Slovenian \ud standards (SIST) and technical reports. Furthermore, the \ud conclusions include some considerations about the obstacles \ud and problems arising from the progress and non-acceptance \ud of the mentioned standardization in Sloveni

    Comparison of oil spill modelling at the sea between trajectory and particle tracking methods

    Oil spills in the marine environment cannot be prevented entirely. In order to diminish their consequences,\ud numerous oil spreading and weathering models have been developed. The NAFTA3d\ud model is based on the particle tracking method, its results are oil concentrations at specified\ud times. A new module based on the trajectory method showing the probability of oil slick occurrence\ud was added to the model. The thesis first describes theoretical background of mathematical\ud oil spill modelling in the marine environment as wall as the course and demands of an oil spill\ud response. We show possible further development of the trajectory method. The second part\ud describes both methods and functioning of the model. A graphic printout automation program\ud developed in the scope of the thesis is presented. In the third part we present the results of\ud performed simulations and analyse the suitability of the trajectory method by comparing concentrations\ud and trajectories in the Gulf of Trieste and in the Northern Adriatic. We depict the\ud strengths and weaknesses of the trajectory method. The study reveals that the new module is\ud most suitable for oil spill response modelling, its major advantages being high computational\ud speed as well as simple and efficient presentation of the entire area at risk on a single map.\ud Finally, we propose a procedure for practical use of the trajectory method

    Settings derivation for strength grading machines

    A timber specimens highest strength grade for a selected strength grade combination can be\ud determined by optimal grading. This can be achieved by different approaches that are\ud represented in the current standard and pre-standard. The pre-standard defines a parametric\ud and non-parametric calculation of characteristic properties from test results, which is the\ud essential difference between various approaches. In both the non-parametric approach and\ud the standard procedure, some simplifications and adjustment factors are used while in the\ud parametric calculation only equations from a theoretical background are used. Procedures are\ud derived for eight different strength grade combination and for all results comparisons are made.\ud With the Mathematica software we used simulations to test given equations for the calculation\ud of characteristic properties. Special consideration was taken on the non-parametrical\ud calculation. The correction factor equation has not proved to be suitable, at least not for the\ud assumptions that are made in the pre-standard. Therefore, we produced a new equation, which\ud gives better results.\ud A new strength grading machine is under development, which is not yet standardized and\ud cannot formally be used for strength grading and CE marking yet. The requirements for the\ud derivation of machine settings for initial type testing were met and we established new settings.\ud We tried different properties as the indicative property. Due to its good correlation to specimens\ud strength properties, dynamic modulus of elasticity was chosen. Grading procedure could be\ud simplified by avoiding density measuring. Using size matrix and global cost matrix, we\ud evaluated grading machine performance for data with measured density and data with\ud constant density for each of the strength grade combination. The results using the measured\ud density were significantly better than those with a constant density. The strength grading\ud machine gave good results and is therefore suitable for the certification process

    Expert bases for implementation of land policy in the municipality of Vrhnika

    The thesis deals with land policy in the municipality of Vrhnika. Currently applicable spatial\ud planning documents for the area of the municipality of Vrhnika are presented. Furthermore,\ud the quantity of vacant land for housing construction in estimated based on the number of\ud building permits issued between 2007 and 2015. For the same period of time real estate\ud market is analyzed as well.\ud In the end the existing public utility infrastructure within settlements is presented as well as\ud the calculation of building land development fee. The analysis carried out in the thesis could\ud contribute to a more rational planning of vacant land for housing construction, which should\ud be initially planned in the areas with existing public utility infrastructure

    Design of three story industrial building with emphasis on seismic design

    The diploma thesis deals with the design of a three-storey industrial building. The supporting structure\ud is represented by 9 moment resisting frames with a span of 10 meters which are 6 meters appart.\ud Horizontal stiffness in the longitudinal direction is provided with eccentric bracings with medium\ud lenght seismic links. The floor construction is designed as a composite concrete panel, which rests on\ud the secondary beams, and is connected to primary steel beams.\ud Effects on the structure were determined in accordance with Slovenian standards SIST EN 1991 and\ud SIST EN 1998. The construction was analyzed in a computer program SCIA Engineer 13.1. The\ud global analysis of the structure was calculated using two planar frames and elastic second order\ud analysis taking into account global initial imperfections. Seismic loads were considered with lateral\ud force method of analysis.\ud The structure is designed as highly ductile. Dissipative areas are located in the beams and eccentric\ud bracings. For ensuring the intended configuration of plastic hinges, the columns are protected after the\ud capacity design method.\ud The serviceability limit state was checked and defermations were in accordance with the standards

    Water expert issues in protection and rescue plans at river Bolska floods

    In Celje basin flood hazard has been present during entire known history. In the area of confluence of\ud rivers Bolska and Savinja main flooding events occurs mostly because of Bolska river. On the basis of\ud recorded flood events in this area, where also Gomilsko settlement is located, intervention maps,\ud which support protection and rescue actions, were elaborated. These maps have been elaborated on the\ud basis of Flood Protection and Rescue Plans and Flood Hazard Maps, and the latter are elaborated\ud according to the national legislation and EU Flood Directive. These intervention maps give\ud information on extent of flood hazards with water depths at different relevant flood return periods,\ud objects and infrastructure under risk and also the proposal of most suitable intervention measures at\ud different scenarios. The maps were elaborated with support of two software, HEC-RAS and Arcmap,\ud software for hydraulic modelling and spatial data analysis

    Analysis of insulation thickness influence based on energy consumption for heating depending on location and shape of the building

    The thesis includes a comparative analysis of thermal insulation materials, construction complexes,\ud shapes and locations of buildings. These parameters affect the consumed heat and energy balance of\ud buildings. We have selected three most commonly used insulation materials which were applied to a\ud predetermined buildings. For the purpose of analysis the buildings are various shapes and depending\ud on the temperature deficit located in different parts of Slovenia. Beside thickness of thermal\ud insulation, the shape of the building, location, and seated transparent structural complexes in single\ud building greatly affect energy consumption for heating. If the transparent parts of external envelope\ud are installed on the appropriate side of the building, they can significantly reduce the need for heating,\ud especially in buildings with poor thermal insulation
