Application of response surface method in analysis of hydraulic structures
The goal of this master thesis was an application of probabilistic\ud
methods in analysis of hydraulic structures. Results were obtained\ud
thorough the coupling of Monte Carlo simulation with the response\ud
surface method. First of all, there is a brief introduction of used\ud
methodology, scope of input data and description of basic variables.\ud
For the numerical experiment of Moste dam TNO Diana finite element\ud
program was used to obtain displacements and stress components.\ud
Based on the results of numerical experiment approximate response\ud
surfaces were formed. The response surface method is a powerful\ud
reliability method that approximates the response function with a\ud
polynomial expression using the values of the function at specific points.\ud
Actual response function was then replaced by approximate response\ud
in the Monte Carlo simulation.\ud
The finite element model of a hydraulic gate on the Moste dam was\ud
developed using Radimpex Tower 6. Basic variables values for both\ud
this model and model of the dam were formed on the basis of a real\ud
measured data. The influence of the thickness of reinforcements on the\ud
value of displacement of the gate was considered. By doing so, the\ud
possibility of use of this method in a process of structure optimisation\ud
was shown.\ud
Finally, a response surface method was used for additional\ud
interpretation of laboratory measurements of the standing wave for\ud
water sports. We determined the probability of occurrence of certain\ud
wave height depending on the discharge.\ud
At the end the response surface method was presented as a powerful\ud
tool for analysis of broad variety of challenges in hydraulics and civil\ud
engineering
The effects of changes in traffic regime at the Slovenska Road with special emphasis on public transport
This thesis presents the investigation of the effects by changes in the traffic regime at the Slovenska\ud
cesta with special emphasis on public transport. Effects were analysed by comparing bus travel time\ud
on selected routes of the public transport. Data were recorded in tree periods, before changes were\ud
made and during temporary traffic regulation and complete blockade of Slovenska cesta. Date were\ud
logically organised and compared with each other. The purpose of the thesis was the investigation of\ud
the effects of partial and complete blockade of Slovenska cesta on travel time of buses in public\ud
transport. The obtained results are shown with graphical display of travel times of buses on different\ud
routes at different periods
Energy efficiency of building UL FGG at Hajdrihova ulica 28
Energy efficiency of building UL FGG at Hajdrihova ulica 28 has been analysed. Two examinations\ud
with a thermal camera were performed. The thermograms revealed failures in the structure that could\ud
not be noticed visually before. The walls’ structure was obtained from the project description from\ud
year 1955. In order to check the walls’ actual composition, the heat flux was measured with a\ud
thermocouple at four characteristic points of the building envelope. Thermal transmittance was\ud
calculated from the measured heat flux and compared with the thermal transmittance gained through\ud
the estimated thicknesses and physical properties of the walls’ layers. For the longitudinal thermal\ud
bridges, longitudinal thermal transmittance was calculated with a computer program THERM. The\ud
outer and inner dimensions of the building were acquired with a laser measurement. With the program\ud
Gradbena fizika URSA 4.0, an energy performance certificate was prepared and the results were\ud
compared with the results from the energy performance certificate that already existed for the\ud
building. Taking into account that the building belongs to cultural heritage, measures for energysaving\ud
renovation were proposed, which would reduce heath losses and increase energy efficiency. In\ud
addition, measures were proposed for the use of renewable energy resources that would provide the\ud
energy required for the functioning of the building. The costs for the proposed measures were\ud
estimated. The most efficient and also the most required measure is the thermal insulation of the\ud
ceiling toward unheated attic, which was estimated to be 20 thousand EUR. The investment would be\ud
repaid in 4 years time
Oil spill stranding processes
In the thesis, we discuss the processes of stranding and release of oil on the coast and off the coast in\ud
the case of an oil spill. We presented different ways of determining the maximum oil–holding capacity\ud
of the beach, and established that the retention mainly depends on the types of coastline and type of\ud
oil. Based on the classification of the coastline types in Slovenia, we chose a section of sandy and\ud
gravelly coastline as an example. For these types of coastlines, we calculated maximum oil–holding\ud
capacities of the coast. In calculations, we used a simple empirical equation that offers favourable ratio\ud
among the number of necessary and available data, and good reliability of the results estimated in\ud
literature. Calculations were performed in Microsoft Excel, using a newly created table that enables\ud
fast and simple calculations. The chosen approach enables relatively simple installation into\ud
numerical models of oil spills, and could contribute to higher reliability of such models. For the\ud
chosen sections of sandy and gravelly coastlines, we also carried out calculations of oil release off the\ud
coast, in which we presumed that the maximum capacity of the coast is filled up. We established that\ud
the process of oil release off a sandy coast is completed in a few days, while on a gravelly coast it lasts\ud
longer for three to four orders of magnitude. The knowledge on the quantity of oil released to the sea\ud
and the time of release for different types of oil and coastlines is important. It can enable the\ud
corresponding services to intervene reasonably and to protect the coastline sections that could be\ud
reached by the released oil
Multi-criteria comparison between optional solutions for the rehabilitation of the bridge over Ozlenšček in Ozeljan
During their service life, faults and deficiencies that influece their functionality and appearance\ud
emerge on bridges. In order to ensure safety, usability and aesthetic appearance, structures\ud
have to undergo regular expert review and maintenance. Some bridges are damaged to the\ud
extent where it is necessary to consider alternative solutions. This thesis compares solutions\ud
to the bridge over Ozlenšček in Ozeljan.\ud
In the first step, we compile an inventory of necessary remedial works on the basis of the\ud
examination and tests on the bridge and calculate the estimated costs of comprehensive\ud
rehabilitation. These costs are later compared with estimated costs of the newly constucted\ud
bridge. The results show that the cost of the replacement construction is almost 15 times grater\ud
than the cost of the rehabilitation, therefore we select the latter as a more rational and\ud
economical solution. In addition to the comparison of cost, other criteria such as sustainability\ud
and usability are used
Energy balance of chosen apartment building with suggestions for improvement
The purpose of this diploma thesis is the energy balance calculation of an apartment building in\ud
Logatec, at the address Sončni log 1 and 1a. This data represents the energy efficiency or inefficiency\ud
of the apartment building and can be used to introduce renovation possibilities, with which the criteria\ud
of an energy efficient building, according to the Regulations on Energy Efficiency in\ud
Buildings (PURES 2010, Ur. l. RS, nr. 52/2010: 7840), can be met. . The calculations were carried out\ud
using the KI Energija software that is based on the methodology of the Regulations PURES 2010 and\ud
the directive Tehnična smernica - učinkovita raba energije (TSG nr. 1-004, 2010). Also carried out\ud
was a comparison of the actual U-factors with those in effect at the time of construction planning,\ud
because of the inadequate values of thermal transmittance factors of constructional complexes. The KI\ud
Energija computer software recorded energy balance calculations which indicate energy efficiency.\ud
The chosen building’s energy balance does not meet the criteria of PURES 2010, because the\ud
legislation in effect at the time of construction planning, in 2005, involved criteria that were less strict.\ud
The most substantial deviations occur in the split-level constructional complex, which divides the\ud
heated zone and the garage, because it is not thermally insulated and the U-factor exceeds the\ud
threshold by 1,1 W/(m2K). The most energy-efficient renovation measures include additional thermal\ud
insulation of split-level constructional complexes and the non-permeable exterior, while also installing\ud
a mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery
Proposal for spatial development of the local community Velike Poljane in the Municipality of Ribnica
The diploma thesis presents possible concept of spatial development of the Local community\ud
Velike Poljane in the Municipality of Ribnica, based on professional positions and made spatial\ud
analysis. The positional part describes the natural and man-made characteristics of the\ud
narrower and wider space defining the considered area. The analytical part describes the used\ud
methodology (age of objects, spatial positions, visual analysis, morphological analysis) for the\ud
spatial analyses of the developmental concept planned for the respective local community and\ud
member settlements. The results of the analyses are presented graphically and in writing. The\ud
final product of the thesis is presentation of land allocation based on the development concept\ud
in the form of a municipal spatial plan. For the purpose of a comprehensive spatial\ud
development, we have produced approximately of proposals for site rehabilitation of degraded\ud
areas, reconstruction of the Velike Poljane village core, reconstruction of deserted objects,\ud
public infrastructure, and green surfaces intended for public good
Carbon footprint of building products and assembled constructional complexes
Greenhouse gases are becoming bigger and bigger polluter of our planet. Carbon dioxide represents\ud
the largest part of greenhouse gases (70 %), because of that we represent carbon footprint with CO2\ud
equivalent (CO2-e). We will compare assembled construction complexes and their carbon footprint in\ud
this graduation thesis. At first we will explain what greenhouse gases are and how they are formed.\ud
Then we will present some of the studies that research field of materials in constructional complexes\ud
and connection with its carbon footprint. Slovenian, European and global legislation about carbon\ud
footprint will also be explained. In constructional complexes we will change materials for load-bering\ud
construction (reinforced concrete, brick, wood, steel and aluminum) and thermal insulation (expanded\ud
polystyrene and rockwool). Among all versions of constructional complexes wood and expanded\ud
polystyrene gave as the best results in sustainable perspective. The worst results gave us the\ud
combination with brick and rockwool. Steel and aluminum have the biggest carbon footprint, wood\ud
has the smallest. Nevertheless carbon footprint of constructional complexes with steel or aluminum is\ud
just a little worse than constructional complexes with wood. We got a lot better results with light\ud
weight load-bearing construction (wood, steel, aluminum) then the massive systems type of loadbearing\ud
construction (reinforced concrete, brick) because less material is needed per unit area for the\ud
same effect
Local stream rehabilitation for the purpose of protecting urban infrastructure
The purpose of this master's thesis is to present various aspects of a local stream regulation\ud
works in scope of the infrastructure maintenance and reconstruction. Considering\ud
characteristics of smaller headwater streams, we presented several technical alternatives and\ud
critical overview of Slovenian legislative framework. Description of administrative regulation of\ud
the sector is followed by presentation of theoretical principle for optimization of planning\ud
process for stream corridors. The latter is taken from foreign practice and literature and\ud
adapted to the spatial and other characteristics of our area. In the second part of the thesis, as\ud
a study case, stream Belica is used to overview the key components of a planning process of\ud
stream corridor rehabilitation in scope of the local road infrastructure reconstruction, as shown\ud
in previous chapters. The hydraulic conditions in the stream section were analysed by Hec-\ud
Ras hydraulic model of the present and planned stream channel. On the basis of the latter and\ud
taking into account all other factors, we specified technical guidelines for future hydrotechnical\ud
regulation of the Belica stream channel
Open science in view of scientific journal Geodetski vestnik
To improve the international recognition of Geodetski vestnik, the leading Slovenian scientific and professional journal in geodesy, land surveying and geoinformatics, the editorial board took many actions, such as open access to full-text papers at the journals website since 2000 onwards. Indexation in many information systems and databases like Cobiss.si, DOAJ, WoS, DRUGG and CrossRef has increased the visibility of the journal and its articles at both national and international levels. Upon establishing the digital repository DRUGG at the Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering, University of Ljubljana, this journal was the first to take the opportunity to archive its articles as open access articles in the repository. The statistics of articles downloads convinces all the participiants that the archiving in the repository influenced good on journals visibility and citation. The Geodetski vestniks citation in the period 2009-2013 is analysed in this article. Data were collected in the WoS database. The aim of the study is to encourage all authors to archive their articles in the DRUGG repository. By doing this, they increase the visibility of theirs articles and the journal Geodetski vestnik and increase the possibilities to citation. At the same time, by archiving their articles in the DRUGG repository, they will fulfil obligations to the European Commission as one of the important funding providers for scientific research
