Time and cost analysis of commercial building construction

    Get PDF
This thesis analyses the construction course of a commercial building from two aspects: time and cost. A time analysis and a comparison between a contract term plan and an executive term plan as well as the actual execution of the constructional project from the start of the construction until the handover and acceptance are being presented. Reasons for the deviation from the constructional work term plan are stated. It is of the uttermost importance for the contractor to follow the term plan stated in the construction contract. A cost analysis for concrete, metal and mason work, as well as panelling and scaffolding is performed. The analysis contains a comparison between an offer-based calculation and an after-calculation, which complies with the actual cost of used quantities. Reasons for the increase of the contract price of a project are stated at the end

Tiled stove as the unique heating source for single house

    Get PDF
Title of the thesis is provocative nature. I wrote it as a response to an article published on 8 July 2016 in the daily newspaper Dnevnik (in annex). Author Marjeta Kralj named it "Iz stanovanj bo treba zmetati neustrezne peči, kamine in štedilnike", which roughly translates to "furnaces, stoves and fireplaces need to be thrown out of houses. The article states the problem of carbon oxides and flotation of fine dust particles PM10 and PM2,5. In the introductory chapters I talk about stovemaking industry in Slovenia. These beginnings date as far as Emona villa and its hypocaust heating system which can be seen even today\ud in Ljubljana archeology park. I continue by describing the possible execution of different smaller burning devices and their combinations (for example: an extra separated furnace one floor above). The percentage yield of tiled stove are above 75% and when you install a heat exchanger this percentage increases substantially. In this thesis I have also made a simple case on how to heat single-room house with an tiled stove with the appropriate size for heating losses not excieding 8 kW. Before that I have thoroughly considered theoretical bases of calculations which I have derived from standard SIST EN 15544:2009 and documented them. I am putting large emphacies on wood as an energy source, which is highly available and close by to Slovenians. It is coal neutral and as such energy source of the future. I have also researched the possibilities of low emission burnout in small heating appliances. I was\ud fascinated by the fact that on Slovenian market already sell filters which purify the air of most harmful gasses and dust particles. Among the products there is a smart device "Florian" made by a company named ATech, which automatically calibrates the suction of smoke gasses in chimney pipes. The device increases percentage yield up to 20 %[14]

Comparison of different railway line capacity calculation methods

    Get PDF
In this graduation thesis I showed the differences between three methods for calculating the capacity of a railway. I used the following three methods: method UIC 406, method named after Kovaćević and method UIC 405. At first I described every method. After that I calculated the capacity of a railway for each method for the track Dobova –Zidani Most. In the end I compared the three methods and I\ud justified why it came to differences in capacity

Proposal of state bicycle network in gorenjska statistical region

    Get PDF
This thesis presents a conceptual study of a long-distance cycling network with integration of main urban centers in Gorenjska statistical region, as a part of a planned national cycling network. Currently, there are several national strategies that deal with this issue and offer useful cycling paths in this part of Slovenia, but only a small fraction of these are built and in use by locals and tourists. Cycling path D-2 between Mojstrana and Rateče as well as small part of planned R-2 path, which runs between Bohinjska Bistrica and Ribčev Laz, serve as examples of good coordination between local communities and state institutions. The main objective of the thesis is to integrate existing links into a new concept, which focuses on the sustainable planning policies and encourages the integration of various services as a part of this network.\ud Planned proposal of the national cycling network connects urban centers of Gorenjska region, which were previously determined on the basis of their economic and tourist importance in the area. Cycling links were planned according to the main requirements for cycling infrastructure, where safety is the most important aspect. Taking that into consideration, we were trying to make the best use of existing low traffic roads without unnecessary investment costs into separate infrastructure. Some links are presented in a number of different options, which have been evaluated and compared in terms of safety, spatial and operational aspects as well as in their integrative function. Additional integrity of the network is provided by the connectivity with neighboring regions (Savinja, Central Slovenia and Gorizia region) and countries Austria and Italy, which enable connection with the European cycling network EuroVelo

Study of treatment processes for landfill wastewater

    Get PDF
This thesis is an overview of available technological processes for landfill leachate treatment. The emphasis is on the best available technologies, which are most commonly used in the Slovenian area. Landfills are divided into three groups based on their operational status. Operational landfills, landfills currently in closing process and closed landfills, which had monitored data of landfill leachate for at least 5 year long period were chosen. According to the obtained data, conclusions and proposals on existing landfill leachate treatment management were given. As a case study of good management practice, CERO Špaja dolina is discussed. They are trying to change their existing leachate treatment process with economically more appropriate one. For this purpose an economic comparison of the available options was made

Hydraulic analysis of the Kostanjevica na Krki water supply system

    Get PDF
The Master thesis covers the hydraulic analysis of the water supply system of Kostanjevica na Krki. The emphasis of the thesis is on methods for water loss identification. While collecting suitable data several unknown hydraulic quantities of the water supply system that are not measured or are just approximations of true measured values. These challenges, which made it difficult to construct a hydraulic model, led me to elaborating suggestions and a system for quality data collection and measurements for hydraulic modeling of water supply systems. This way I elaborated a measurement scheme that did not involve only the important hydraulic structures on the water supply system, but also the newly proposed DMA zones. The number of measurement locations is can be arbitrary, while I focused on a scheme that would ensure the collection of sufficient quality data to form a calibrated hydraulic model. This would guarantee sufficient measurement data for a calibration process

Content and principles in creating school maps

    Get PDF
This doctoral dissertation studies the significance of school maps in education in detail and complements findings by experts from Slovenia and abroad with new insights. Based on the studies conducted, textbooks remain the predominant method for presenting cartographic material in the educational system, and therefore the main focus is on the maps used in textbooks.\ud The concluding thesis proceeds from an analysis of Slovenian curricula and their comparison with selected curricula in other European countries, Canada, and Australia. The findings are also based on an extensive analysis of the cartographic knowledge of Slovenian primary-school and secondary-school students, teachers’ preferences, and the experience of the editors that incorporate cartographic material into textbooks. These analyses were carried out using a survey and interviews. The results showed that, compared to the curricula in other countries, the Slovenian curricula provide extensive and thorough cartographic material, especially from the fourth grade onwards. Nonetheless, the students show gaps in certain segments of cartographic knowledge of Slovenia.\ud In order to study the causes for this, the entire cartographic communication system was examined—from the cartographers that encode the messages, to cognitive maps, which are the result of users’ mental decoding of messages provided by the map. The study adds to the cartographic design principles that will serve as a starting point for preparing the best possible school maps for teaching in the future and for further development of school cartography

The thesis discussed the scope of management of real property law, with a focus on the building. The work deals with the existing provisions of the said areas and their impact on the system of governance and management of real property law, and factors in management efficiency and management. Presents the methodology for "benchmarking" in the management of facilities and services, defined by the European Standard EN 15221 and in this thesis is used as a starting point for the design of effective management of public administration buildings. Present, the existing data on buildings, police stations and a proposal for their use in the formulation of criteria for assessing the efficiency and the creation of a model for the initial analysis of the management of public administration buildings. The work also shows the indicative management system with public administration buildings. It is noted that to improve the management of public administration buildings should start with the fundamental analysis of the existing stock of buildings of public administration, with the "benchmarking" undoubtedly an appropriate tool. It is also necessary to improve the quality and availability of data on buildings of public administration, in particular, raise awareness and train all the actors involved in the process of governance and management of public administration buildings that will be in the process of active, informed and constructive participation

Bioclimatic design of a single-family house

    Get PDF
The thesis presents the term "bioclimatic architecture". It describes the planning process according to bioclimatic principles, and the use of different passive strategies to achieve thermal comfort.\ud There is a representation of bioclimatic design shown on the actual case. Psichrometric chart is designed, based on the climate data for the current location. It gives us the basic information on the measures that need to be taken into account during certain periods of the year. With the help of these data and other bioclimatic principles there is designed a basic model of a house on actual location. Analysis of sunshine and energy balance are carried out on the model of a house. The thesis analyzes the four variants, which are obtained by gradually changing the original model. The final design of the house meets all the criteria for energy efficiency and the minimum recommended levels of illumination of the building with natural light
