Design and static analysis of arch dam using software SAP2000
This thesis presents the layout and the analysis of an arch dam.\ud
The dam was layout and designed at an optional location. We followed two US manuals for design of arch dams and designed our dam accordingly. These two manuals are published by United States Army Corps of Engineer (USACE) and Interior Department of United States Bureau of Reclamation (USBR).\ud
The thesis starts with some basic information about arch dams. A review of references which are used in thesis is provided in chapter two. The static analysis of arch dam and the description of the selection procedures are presented with a brief description about finite element method (FEM) and its application. Layout and initial modeling of the dam were done by two graphical software; AutoCad and SketchUp.\ud
Analysis of the dam is based on FEM as implemented in SAP2000 software. 3D solid elements are used to model the dam. The material properties are defined based on typical values which are chosen on the recommendations found in literature.\ud
Two load cases were studied; hydrostatic pressure and concrete self-weight and various load combinations were applied to the structure. Some basic description about the temperature distribution and temperature load are also discussed, but they are not included into the finite element method. \ud
Special attention is dedicated to modeling of boundary conditions. In the first case the foundation is assumed to be rigid and in the second case elastic springs are used to model the foundation and part of dam body which is under abutment rocks. The stiffness of spring is defined on the bases of typical properties of foundation rocks.\ud
The results of analysis are presented by diagrams of displacements and stresses. We show, compare and discuss the response of both models under various load combinations
Analysis of differences between selling prices and generalized market values of realestate in the municipality of Trebnje
This thesis is concerned with the analysis of selling prices of apartments, apartment buildings and building lands in the Municipality of Trebnje during the years 2010 and 2015. Generalized market value of the aforementioned housing types in the Municipality of Trebnje is analyzed for the years 2010 and 2014. In the concluding part, the difference between selling prices and generalized market values of the housing types in question is analyzed.\ud
Analysis shows that in the year 2010, most apartments were sold at a higher price than the prices advertised by GURS, while in 2014, the majority of apartments which were below the advertised generalized market value, had been sold. Similarly, in 2010, most apartment buildings were sold at a higher selling price than the prices advertised by GURS. In 2014, half of the apartment buildings were sold for less than the advertised generalized market value, while the second half were sold for more than the advertised prices set by GURS. In 2010, building lands were sold below the generalized market value in the majority of cases. In 2014, half of all building lands were sold for less than the advertised generalized market value, while the other half were sold for more. \ud
The analysis shows that the advertised generalized market value can act as the basis for property tax. However, it would be necessary to study why in some instances, the selling prices are lower than the generalized market value
Evaluation of seismic resistance of masonry building in the area of Novo mesto
The thesis deals with the analysis of seismic resistance of a new, single family masonry house in the Dolenjska region. We analysed only the lower storey of the building, considering all necessary standard requirements of the Eurocode 6 and Eurocode 8. The seismic analysis was done by the method of horizontal forces. The strength capacities of individual masonry wall elements were determined on the\ud
basis of flexural mechanism of the collaps, the sliding shear mechanism and the shear mechanism characterized with the formation of diagonal cracks, what is not determined in the above mentioned standards. The calculation neglects the impact of reinforced concrete on the capacity of walls. The\ud
program SAP2000 was used to model the house as well as to determine the seismic forces on individual building elements. According to the shell and line models we made, we found the values of seismic forces fit quite well. To evaluate the seismic resistance we took two versions where the wall capacities were calculated with and without considering the sliding shear mechanism, since such failure\ud
mechanisms can rarely be observed in lower storeys. However, our calculation following the sliding shear collapse mechanism, proves that seismic resistance in horizontal and vertical directions was not obtained. On the other hand, without considering this method, the building seems to be seismic resistant. Although the standard requires the calculation of capacity, based on the method of the sliding shear mechanism, we can conclude that the seismic resistance of the building is not sufficient
Resistance tables of IPE beam-to-beam connections with extended end plate
In this thesis the resistance of bolted connections of IPE profiles with extended end plates were analysed by the component method. This thesis begins with the presentation of required design checks for the design of bolted column-to-beam connection. There are 15 checks for his kind of connection. The analysis of beam-to-beam connection is presented after that. There are only 4 design checks for determining the resistance of this kind of connection, namely the end plate in bending, the beam web in transverse tension, the beam flange in transverse compression. Cost and time analysis of construction of highway bypass
During the construction projects’ execution we constantly face unpredictable situations and factors. This is why we always strive toward avoiding them or resolving them in the easiest or most effective way possible, using all the tools and operations at our disposal. The thesis describes some of the basic concepts of construction projects, their monitoring and controlling, and the use of information technology and its possibilities in monitoring construction and measure of the project's success. In the central part of the thesis I describe the real magnitude of the project Sarajevo bypass, the course of execution, and events and actions during the construction work. In the final park of the thesis I describe the methods for monitoring, control and analysis of a particular project, where the deviations from the original goals are visible. We can conclude that the use of information technology in controlling of a construction project is more than welcome, as it offers unlimited possibilities when it comes to data acquisition, and transparent and timely following of the project. In addition it allows us to see a thorough analysis of projects progress, even while it’s still taking place. Nevertheless, it is necessary to have practical experience and reasonably use of all the options available
Evaluation of green roof performance on rainwater runoff quantity
The master thesis deals with performance of extensive green roofs on rainwater runoff quantity in three different climates typical for Slovenia (continental, submediterranean and mountain). The measurements were done on three different test green roofs. The data were used for rainwater runoff modelling. The results showed the response of three different roofs in three different climates. We have found that the reduction of rainwater runoff depends on\ud
the rate of evapotranspiration in the area and on the green roof evapotranspiration coefficient. It is reasonable to increase the retention capacity only for green roofs with high evapotranspiration coefficient in climates with high rate of evapotranspiration. Increasing the retention of green roof in climates with low evapotranspiration does not always result in runoff attenuation. Based on the findings, we proposed the conceptual design of the blue-green roof which is suitable for all three climate types of our research
Transformation of the urban public space by using the sustainable urban transport planning in the case of Ljubljana
The master's thesis explores the transformation of urban public space by using the sustainable urban transport planning on the subject of open public spaces in the wider centre of Ljubljana. Under the term »transformation« we imply the connection between spatial management of open public space in the town and the scope of sustainable mobility, because our opinion is that a well-managed open public space is to be transformed, i.e. its usage and its use of sustainable ways of mobility. This implies that non-motorised ways of mobility are used more often as well as people spending time in public space more often. The master's thesis comprises of two parts. We dealt with the first part theoretically, we also presented the significance of open public space for the city in depth. We dealt with another variable theoretically, namely with the sustainable mobility and their mutual interconnection. The second part of the thesis contains the analysis of spatial and traffic management of the chosen open public spaces in Ljubljana. With the help of literature we chose indicators for determining the spatial management of open public spaces. That was the base to determine the criteria for grading the spatial management of open public spaces (a non-managed, medium-managed, well-managed space). We chose the cases of well-managed and medium-managed open public spaces in Ljubljana. The questionnaire-based aim of the research, whose database consisted of possible users of such public spaces was to find out the scope and scope-change of sustainable mobility in Ljubljana, related to users' evaluation of spatial management of open public space and also related to the significance of spatial management of open public space for the users.\ud
With the view that the well-managed open public space in the city encourages the use of sustainable non-motorised ways of mobility and regular usage of open public space, we set out three hypotheses, whose validity we checked with statistical tests ANOVA and the Kullback test for connectedness. The first two hypotheses were concerned with dependency on frequency of chosing non-motorised ways of mobility, i.e. on the spatial management of open public space and on users' grading of spatial management of open public space. The statistical test ANOVA proved the two hypotheses partly. The third hypothesis was concerned with users' contentment of open public spaces in relation to the car-traffic closure for the city centre of Ljubljana (as one of the spatial management activities for open public space), and the closure's impact on users visiting the city centre. The Kullback test entirely confirmed the hypothesis for connectedness
The use of polyester nonwoven textiles for thermal insulation and retention of condensate
In this graduation thesis I studied polyester nonwoven textiles which are being produced by Filc d.d. In the first part of the thesis I measured thermal conductivity properties of different voluminous nonwoven textiles with a heat flow meter. Based on the measurements I determined a connection between density, composition and thermal conductivity of the materials. The measurements showed that the tested nonwoven textiles have comparable thermal conductivity properties with nonwoven textiles which are already available on the market. In addition I determined the approximate density and composition of nonwoven textiles which lead to good thermal conductivity values. In the second part of the graduation thesis I studied a structural composite consisting of a nonwoven textile and thin metal. The purpose of the nonwoven textile is to hold condensed water. Based on the Glaser method and customized Glaser method I determined the allowed average temperature difference between the outer and inner side of the structural composite so that the absorption capacity of the nonwoven textile is not exceeded. For the outer side of the structural composite I used temperature data for Ljubljana. In the thesis I showed that the allowed temperature differences are lower in the winter period compared with the rest of the year. The allowed temperature differences in the rest of the year are higher and comparable with each other
Conceptual salutions of wastewater drainage and treatment for villages Božakovo, Želebej and Rakovec
The subject of this thesis are conceptual solutins for drainage and treatment of wastewater in the villages Božakovo, Želebej and Rakovec situated in the Municipality of Metlika. The villages are located in the immediate vicinity of the bathing river Kolpa and protected areas Natura 2000, which is an additional reason to address the problem of wastewater. The preliminary chapter covers legislation applicable to the drainage and treatment of wastewater. The first part describes the natural and demographic characteristics of the area, depicting the villages in question. In the following section general caracteristics of sewage systems are presented. The second, practical part of the thesis, shows design I, which considers an individual WWTP for each village. In design II villages Božakovo and Želebej are connected ta a common WWTP. The methods of planning, dimensioning and realization are presented for individual designs. The last part focuses on the calculated costs of construction, operation and maintenance and gives the financial comparison of the two solutions
Structural design of commercial building in Domžale
In the diploma thesis, we have analyzed and dimensioned the typical elements of R/C load-bearing structure of a commercial building. We have assumed that a four-story building is located in Domžale. We have determined the value of permanent and variable actions and the values of seismic load that affect the structure. The structure elements have been designed by the principles of limit states, according the Eurocode standard specifications. For the analysis of R/C floor plate and walls, two different idealized mathematical models have been built in software SAP2000. The result of design analysis, are the required amounts of reinforcement in the structural elements. We have designed the reinforcement of a floor plate and one selected wall, and presented them in the reinforcement plans
