From Source to Sink : Spatial and Temporal Variability of Suspended Sediment Load in two Glaciated Alpine Catchments
This study investigates suspended sediment transport in two glaciated catchment areas of the Eastern Central Alps within the DFG Research Group SEHAG (Sensitivity of High Alpine Geosystems to climate change since 1850). The main objective of this work is to characterize the conditions that trigger suspended sediment transport and the resulting sediment dynamics, emphasizing the sediment supply activated under specific hydrometeorological conditions.
The methodology combines continuous meteorological data with monthly suspended sediment measurements conducted during the ablation period of 2024 using manual samplers at strategically positioned sampling stations across the Upper Kaunertal and Martelltal catchments. Two primary research questions are addressed: (1) How do suspended sediment concentrations and loads vary spatially and temporally when comparing glacier terminus locations with downstream stations? (2) What characteristic patterns emerge in the suspended sediment samples under different hydrometeorological conditions?
During days dominated by glacial melt, the suspended sediment samples show a typical diurnal peak around 15:00-16:00, with concentrations up to 2.5 g/l in Kaunertal and 11.8 g/l in Martelltal, following the glacial hydrograph. However, notable increases of up to 1169 % occur during precipitation events, suggesting the activation of different sediment sources. These findings provide insights into how different hydrometeorological conditions activate distinct sediment sources and contribute to the understanding of sediment dynamics in glaciated catchments. The results lay the foundation for future suspended sediment monitoring
Perspectives on Physician-Assisted Suicide Among German Hospice Professionals : Findings from a Diagnostic Survey
Background/Objectives: This study examines the attitudes of German hospice professionals toward physician-assisted suicide (PAS), focusing on ethical conflicts, emotional challenges, and institutional readiness within an unregulated legal context. Methods: A 2023 survey of 558 hospice workers used 13 closed-ended items to assess perspectives on PAS. Results: Latent class analysis identified subgroups based on shared response patterns. Three latent classes were identified, reflecting how hospice professionals might respond to the implementation of PAS in Germany: (1) “Low Conflict, Supportive Attitude”, referring to professionals likely to accept and support PAS with minimal ethical or emotional resistance; (2) “Moderate Conflict, Balanced Perspective”, describing professionals cautiously open to discussion but harboring notable ethical reservations; and (3) “High Conflict, Low Support”, encompassing professionals anticipated to face significant opposition and emotional challenges. Additionally, organizational readiness was reported as low (51.4%), alongside widespread concerns about increased workload and mental strain. Conclusions: Hospice professionals exhibit varied attitudes toward PAS, underscoring the importance of proactive measures should policymakers move toward its implementation. Ethical training, emotional support, and robust institutional frameworks will be essential to equip professionals for the challenges ahead
Educational Resilience : A Few Reflections and Theoretical Analyses on Resilient Pupils, Teachers and Schools
The complexities of modern life, the global and unpredictable situations in the lives of individuals, societies as well as in political and social contexts, make the concept of resilience increasingly popular, serving as a pillar in the development of educational programs. For years, it has been observed that in various sciences – including medical, social and the humanities, as well as those in the field of upbringing and education – there has been an increasing focus on seeking solutions based on the concept of resilience. The purpose of this article is therefore, first, to attempt to define the construct of resilience in educational sciences and, second, to analyze this construct and the theoretical and research trends relating to the educational resilience of students, teachers and schools. The article focuses on defining educational resilience, which refers to the adaptive abilities of students, ensuring an increased likelihood of success at school and in other spheres of life despite experiencing adversity. It was also pointed out that educational resilience can also be analyzed in the context of the school's educational environment, with an emphasis on the teachers working there. Finally, school resilience is described in the context of ecological theory and systemic approaches

Digital influencers in different cultural contexts : effects of authenticity and value perceptions
Purpose
Brands can build meaningful, effective connections with consumers through digital influencers. This paper aims to understand the factors determining digital influencers’ success concerning brand-related (i.e. intention to follow influencer advice) and influencer-related (i.e. intention to recommend the influencer) outcomes. We present a conceptual model derived from established theories and psychological reasoning, identifying influencer authenticity and perceived value as important antecedents. We present satisfaction with the influencer and influencer credibility as the psychological mechanism explaining why antecedents transform into favorable outcomes.
Design/methodology/approach
With structural equation modeling and two studies (N1 = 814; N2 = 685) relying on active followers from two countries (the UK and India), this paper examines the direct and indirect effects of the value and authenticity of digital influencers on followers’ behavioral outcomes and the cultural context’s potential moderating effect.
Findings
Authenticity and value of digital influencers positively affect intention to follow influencer advice and recommend the influencer. Such effects are mediated by follower satisfaction and influencer credibility. The effects of influencer authenticity and value on intentions to follow and recommend are not stronger in India than in the UK.
Originality/value
We contribute to the literature by presenting a theoretically informed framework capturing the antecedents of successful influencers and the importance of differentiating brand-related and influencer-related outcomes. Furthermore, our studies highlight that research findings about influencers’ impact may not be generalizable to other cultural contexts
Fashionable Ethics : Exploring Ethical Perspectives in the Production, Marketing, and Consumption of Fashion
This Special Issue examines ethics in fashion to further critical understanding of the various drivers and barriers, nuances and layers of complexity in fashion production, marketing, and consumption, and aims toward a more future-oriented perspective through the lens of ethics. Research on ethical issues in fashion is growing but is fragmented across diverse domains, from supply chain and operations management, to psychology and sociology, to marketing and consumption. Furthermore, there has been only a peripheral focus on ethics and limited application of ethical theories or frameworks to fashion’s ethical dilemmas. This Special Issue brings together diverse domains and unpacks salient ethical issues using the lens of ethical theories and frameworks to advance theory development on balancing social justice with environmental responsibility, decision-making in ethical situations, and newer forms of greenwashing and consumerism. The selected papers use varied methodologies and offer novel insights across different global contexts
