Ils parlent, ces Romains! : inszenierte Mündlichkeit und Revitalisierung im Asterix Latinus

    No full text

Editorial Convergence Equals Lower News Content Diversity? : a Mixed-Methods-Study Assessing Organization and Reporting of German Newspapers

    No full text
This study focuses on two central elements of news journalism: editorial convergence and the diversity of news content. The goal was to examine a potentially negative impact of a more centrally organized newsroom on structural and content diversity in news journalism. Therefore, we examined three German newspapers with different degrees of editorial convergence to assess their organizational development as well as their reporting’s development regarding content diversity. Our results do not support a direct impact of editorial convergence on diversity. Independent of changes to editorial organization, the diversity of news content has remained the same on a high level

How robust is randomized blind deconvolution via nuclear norm minimization against adversarial noise?

    No full text
In this paper, we study the problem of recovering two unknown signals from their convolution, which is commonly referred to as blind deconvolution. Reformulation of blind deconvolution as a low-rank recovery problem has led to multiple theoretical recovery guarantees in the past decade due to the success of the nuclear norm minimization heuristic. In particular, in the absence of noise, exact recovery has been established for sufficiently incoherent signals contained in lower-dimensional subspaces. However, if the convolution is corrupted by additive bounded noise, the stability of the recovery problem remains much less understood. In particular, existing reconstruction bounds involve large dimension factors and therefore fail to explain the empirical evidence for dimension-independent robustness of nuclear norm minimization. Recently, theoretical evidence has emerged for ill-posed behaviour of low-rank matrix recovery for sufficiently small noise levels. In this work, we develop improved recovery guarantees for blind deconvolution with adversarial noise which exhibit square-root scaling in the noise level. Hence, our results are consistent with existing counterexamples which speak against linear scaling in the noise level as demonstrated for related low-rank matrix recovery problems

Aggression and emotional forgiveness in a group of juveniles : a two-wave study

    No full text
The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between anger, hostility, physical aggression, verbal aggression, and emotional forgiveness (positive emotional forgiveness and reduction of negative emotions) in a longitudinal study design. Data were analyzed from 366 juveniles aged 10–18 (M = 15.18, SD = 1.63) who completed questionnaires during two waves. The procedure for both measurements consisted of completing questionnaires measuring emotional forgiveness and aggression. In order to achieve the aim of the study, we decided to evaluate a partial cross-lagged model. Our analyses showed that the reduction in negative emotions toward the offender at T1 was a significant predictor of anger and hostility at T2. Sex was a significant covariate for verbal aggression, anger, and hostility. This study adds to the current literature by supporting previously theorized relationships. It suggests the possibility of training forgiveness skills in juveniles, reducing aggressive and potentially delinquent behavior, especially in response to injustice and events that trigger anger and hostility

The mediating role of resilience in the relationship between religious struggles and health behaviours in a group of polish young adults

    No full text
The purpose of the study was to examine more thoroughly the relationship between religious struggles and health behaviours. In this study were examined the role of resilience as a potential mediator in the relationship between these variables of interest and it was focused on the polish young adult generation. Participants were 616 people aged 18–33 years (M = 25.33; SD = 7.27). The respondents indicated their gender and age, and then completed The Religious and Spiritual Struggles Scale (RSSS), The Brief Resilience Scale (BRS), and Health Behaviour Inventory (HBI). In all models, resilience was evaluated as a potential mediator between types of religious struggle and health behaviour. The mediation analysis showed that including resilience as part of the overall model weakened the negative association between the dimensions of religious struggle – divine, ultimate meaning, and doubt – and health behaviour. The presented negative impact of religious struggles on health behaviour points to the need to build or strengthen resilience among individuals, with resilience as a potential buffer to both reduce the negative effect of R/S struggles and strengthen pro-health behaviour
