    No full text

    Parameter estimation for cellular automata

    No full text
Self-organizing complex systems can be modeled using cellular automaton models. However, the parametrization of these models is crucial and significantly determines the resulting structural pattern. In this research, we introduce and successfully apply a sound statistical method to estimate these parameters. The decisive difference to earlier applications of such approaches is that, in our case, both the CA rules and the resulting patterns are discrete. The method is based on constructing Gaussian likelihoods using characteristics of the structures, such as the mean particle size. We show that our approach is robust for the method parameters, domain size of patterns, or CA iterations

How to describe an ecosystem of person-centred integrated care in long-term care? : a scoping review

    No full text
Introduction Countries in the European Union are faced with the question of which effective and sustainable care environments can withstand the different challenges that long-term care (LTC) systems face considering demographic change. This is where the strategy of person-centred (PC) integrated care (IC) comes into play. The research question of our work aims to elaborate factors and attributes of PC-IC ecosystems in LTC. We wanted to stratify the elements and relationships of PC-IC ecosystems that can help EU policymakers and LTC stakeholders create PC-IC models. Methods  In order to elaborate the factors and attributes of those ecosystems, we employed a scoping review [1] using a literature research according to PRISMA-ScR [2]. We conducted the scoping review by using a defined Population-Concept-Context scheme (PCC) to identify existing evidence defining these ecosystems. The literature research was carried out from May till August 2024 in six databases (Medline, Cinahl, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Scopus, EconLit) focusing on published literature within the period from 2014 to present. Results  37 out of 1862 publications were included in the review. The results of the scoping review show that ecosystems for PC-IC long-term care can be represented in a variety of contextual factors. Key internal factors include the organisational and structural framework, the information and communication system and factors relating to the caregiver and care receiver perspectives. External factors include regulatory requirements for IC, healthcare and social care system, the technological infrastructure, societal aspects as well as labour regulations. Pivot analysis underlines the study situation in the EU countries is still below average compared to all OECD countries. Conclusion The analysis of the contextual factors emphasises the importance of regulatory frameworks that are aligned with applicable PC-IC models. The external contextual factors impact the effectiveness of internal factors which include, for example, collaboration as well as the digital and technical infrastructure. Based on these results a typology of IC in LTC is to be developed and set in an alignment to the LTC typology of OECD countries [3]. [1] Munn, Z., Peters, M, Stern, C., et al. Evaluation of the feasibility and effectiveness of trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy for children and youth in Ukraine during the war

    No full text
Background The large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in early 2022 resulted in a humanitarian crisis with hundreds of thousands of children exposed to traumatic events. To date, trauma-focused evidence-based treatments (EBTs) for children and youth have not been systematically evaluated and implemented in Ukraine. This study aims at evaluating 1) the feasibility of a training program for Ukrainian therapists on Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT) and 2) the feasibility and effectiveness of the treatment for children, youth, and their families in and from Ukraine during the ongoing war. Methods The project “TF-CBT Ukraine” was implemented between March 2022 and May 2024, in close collaboration with local and international partners. Therapists completed questionnaires before/after the training, and patients were asked to complete a measure on PTSD before and after treatment. Results Altogether 138 therapists started the training program and 44.9% were certified as TF-CBT therapists. The program completers reported overall high satisfaction with the training program, a positive change in their attitude towards EBTs and trauma-related knowledge gain. The patients (age 3–21, 37% male) reported significant improvement in symptoms of PTSD at the end of treatment with large pre-post effect sizes for DSM-5 PTSD ( d selfreport = 2.36; d caregiverreport = 2.27), ICD-11 PTSD ( d selfreport = 1.97; d caregiverreport = 1.77), ICD-11 CPTSD ( d selfreport = 2.04; d caregiverreport = 1.99), and DSM-5 pre-school PTSD ( d caregiverreport = 3.14). Conclusions The results of this study are promising in regard to the general implementation of trauma-focused EBTs in active conflict areas. Future studies need to replicate these findings in a randomized controlled study design

Adaptation and validation of the Christian Sanctification of Suffering Scale (CSSS) in a Polish Catholic chronic pain sample

Background: The Christian Sanctification of Suffering Scale (CSSS) measures the extent to which individuals interpret suffering as spiritually meaningful within a Christian framework. This study aimed to adapt and psychometrically validate the CSSS in Polish. Methods: The study involved a community sample of Polish adults living with chronic pain lasting longer than six months, all identifying as Catholic. Participants completed a 30-minute online survey including the CSSS along with validated measures of religious commitment, spiritual well-being, mental health, and forgiveness. Three months later, a subsample completed the CSSS again to assess temporal stability. The CSSS was translated into Polish and evaluated using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), item response theory (IRT), reliability analysis, and measurement invariance across sex. Results: The CSSS demonstrated a unidimensional structure, confirmed by CFA (χ²(27) = 39.62, p = .056, CFI = 0.941, TLI = 0.921, RMSEA = 0.071, SRMR = 0.033, and GFI = 0.92), and showed excellent internal consistency (α = 0.92). IRT analyses indicated strong item discrimination and a broad range of item difficulty. Measurement invariance across sex was confirmed, and female participants scored significantly higher. Convergent validity was supported through significant correlations with spirituality, religious engagement, mental health indicators, and forgiveness. The scale also demonstrated high temporal stability over a three-month interval. Conclusions: The Polish version of the CSSS is a psychometrically robust instrument for assessing the sanctification of suffering. It offers a novel instrument for assessing spiritual coping, with potential implications for designing spiritually sensitive clinical interventions

Ausprägung, Prädiktoren und Folgen von English Language Speaking Anxiety bei dualen Studierenden mit englischsprachigem Berufskontext

    No full text
