    No full text
The main objective of the research project “Violence, vulnerable groups and school dropout” is to understand structural violence, reduce school dropout and promote a culture of prevention in the community of Valle de Juárez, specifically in the Miguel Ahumada # 2289 elementary school. The aim is to identify the causes of these phenomena and propose interventions to improve the social and educational situation in the region. The research is structured around three axes: vulnerable groups, school dropout and prevention culture. Using an ethnographic approach, techniques such as bibliographic review, semi-structured interviews, focus groups and participant observation will be used for data collection. The project, which will be developed in several stages, will begin with a diagnosis and analysis of the context, and will be followed by immersion in the field and the collection of specific data. In addition, training workshops will be held for teachers and parents to strengthen their skills and promote their participation in the change process. The project's results are expected to have a positive impact on children, young people and their families, contributing to a safer and healthier environment. In the long term, the project seeks to establish an intervention model that can be replicated in other vulnerable communities in the country, promoting a culture of peace and prevention

The herpetofauna of Chihuahua, Mexico: composition, distribution, and conservation status

    No full text

Tourist Behavior for Sustainable Development in the Cumbres de Majalca National Park, Mexico: Challenges in a Post-pandemic Context

    No full text
According to The General Law of Ecological Balance and Environmental Protection of Mexico, National Parks are landscapes of scenic beauty and scientific, educational, recreational, historical, floristic, and faunal values. They constitute highly protected spaces in which only activities related to the conservation of ecosystems, research, recreation, tourism, and environmental education are allowed. Therefore, this chapter's objective is to project management strategies for tourism with low environmental impact based on sustainability and responsible environmental behavior of visitors in the Cumbres de Majalca National Park, located in the State of Chihuahua, Mexico. The research problem is based on the fact that the sources of environmental impact for this park are the presence of forest pests and diseases; forest fires; uncontrolled grazing; use of off-road vehicles; the opening of unestablished roads that destroy vegetation, cause soil loss, accelerate erosion, and generate dust pollution and harmful noise; as well as the overtourism associated with vacation periods. The massive flows of visitors increase the number of arrivals, occupation of houses located within the park, uncontrolled vehicular traffic, firewood extraction, solid waste generation, degradation of rock formations, and damage to the built infrastructure. Based on this problem, the following research questions were formulated: What strategies to implement for a low-impact tourism model in Cumbres de Majalca National Park? How to promote responsible tourism behavior for sustainable development? What are the learning experiences for better sustainable ecotourism management in other National Parks? The research significance is associated with developing a proposal that: contributes to the conservation of wild flora and fauna and the care and preservation of forest vegetation, as well as maintaining the recharge of aquifers and the functionality of the hydrological cycle, protecting the upper parts of the basins where the streams that feed the Chuvíscar, Sacramento, and Santa Isabel rivers are born. At the same time, the reconditioning of the site, whose scenic beauty and geological formations satisfy the visitors' leisure needs in the context of the new normal of post-pandemic tourism. The study method was based on qualitative-quantitative, multidisciplinary, and transversal research principles, using mixed information sources. Empirical methods such as observation, surveys, interviews, and work in groups, as well as theoretical methods such as analytical-synthetic, historical-logical, geospatial, and conceptual modeling, were used. The methodological procedure consisted of data collection, analysis and interpretation, and elaboration of conclusions. The main findings correspond to the diagnosis of the current scenario and the projection of the desired one, as well as the development of strategies for tourism with low environmental impact based on the principles of sustainability and the responsible environmental behavior of visitors of Majalca. This proposal allows the operationalization and instrumentation of the Park Management Program. In it, environmental education and interpretation axes are prioritized as a basis for forming the culture of the environmental traveler in National Parks, considering a new scenario of tourism recovery in a post-pandemic context

Iconoclasm and feminisms: the resignification of space from the Chihuahua Government Palace

    No full text
This article aims to analyze the role of iconoclasm concerning the Government Palace building in Chihuahua, following the feminist marches held in recent years in this city. From a methodological standpoint, this study was developed using a qualitative approach. It was based on a bibliographic analysis and semi-structured interviews with actors involved in the demonstrations and the field of heritage preservation. This study highlights the diversity of perspectives surrounding iconoclasm, the reinterpretation of public spaces, and its potential to drive social and political change. Thus, it serves as a tool of memory, which has been re-signified and consequently altered in its function in response to the social realities of Chihuahua. Although not free from criticism in terms of heritage preservation, the transgressive nature of iconoclasm is seen by these actors as a space for participation and the promotion of new values to reshape the present and future of society, based on a reinterpreted past.Considering this situation, there is an urgent need for a concept of heritage preservation that considers the social and political changes of the context, encourages a broader perspective from academics and public representatives, and focuses on understanding new ways of reclaiming history, fostering the capacity for dialogue to address the demands of society

    No full text
This article examines virtual leadership competencies in the higher education context and its key aspects that impact virtual environments in Mexico. In this sense, one of the major contexts that has dramatically changed is higher education; however, it is worth highlighting that online leadership in universities is still scarce. This work is based on a quantitative method with a descriptive and correlational approach. For this purpose, the E-Competences Model questionnaire was applied to university professors to evaluate their virtual leadership factors and their efficiency in virtual education environment. Findings revealed that moderated correlations have been found in their competences such as e-communications and e-change with e-social, exposing the barely enough labor of leaders, fostering social interaction, as well as e-team with e-technology, showing a regular basis training in using ICT’s. Conclusions intend to propose new strategies for leadership capabilities assessment and its effectiveness on virtual education environments
