    No full text

Smart Parking: Enhancing Urban Mobility with Fog Computing and Machine Learning-Based Parking Occupancy Prediction

    No full text
Parking occupancy is difficult in most modern cities because of increases in the accessibility and use of motor vehicles, and users generally take several minutes or even hours to find a place to park. In this work, we propose a smart parking prediction model in order to help users locate in advance the availability of parking near the places they plan to visit. For this it is proposed a fog computing architecture that integrates a machine learning algorithm based on AdaBoost to predict parking places hours or days in advance. Additionally, a user interface was developed, which involves the collection of user inputs through a mobile application where the user is prompted to enter the destination location and the prediction time interval. Through extensive experimentation using real-world parking flow data, our proposed algorithm demonstrated an improved level of accuracy compared with alternative prediction methods. Moreover, a simulation was conducted to evaluate the system’s latency when using cloud computing versus our hybrid approach combining both fog and cloud computing. The results showed that employing the fog module in conjunction with cloud computing significantly reduced response delay in comparison with using cloud computing alone

A New Generalization of the Uniform Distribution: Properties and Applications to Lifetime Data

    No full text
In this paper, we generalize two new statistical distributions, to improve the ability to model failure rates with non-monotonic, monotonic, and mainly bathtub curve behaviors. We call these distributions Generalized Powered Uniform Distribution and MOE-Powered Uniform. The proposed distributions’ approach is based on incorporating a parameter k in the power of the values of the random variables, which is associated with the Probability Density Function and includes an operator called the Powered Mean. Various statistical and mathematical features focused on reliability analysis are presented and discussed, to make the models attractive to reliability engineering or medicine specialists. We employed the Maximum Likelihood Estimator method to estimate the model parameters and we analyzed its performance through a Monte Carlo simulation study. To demonstrate the flexibility of the proposed approach, a comparative analysis was carried out on four case studies with the proposed MOE-Powered Uniform distribution, which can model failure times as a bathtub curve. The results showed that this new model is more flexible and useful for performing reliability analysis

Algoritmo Evolutivo para reducir la congestión vehicular

    No full text

The Benefit of Community and Family Support During the Perinatal Period for Latina Immigrants

    No full text
Latina women are at increased risk for depression and anxiety, with rates twice those of Latino men in the United States. Specifically, among immigrants, rates of depression and anxiety increase with the number of years lived in the United States. The perinatal period (during pregnancy and up to 12 months postpartum) is a time of heightened risk for depression and anxiety for Latina immigrants, with studies demonstrating prevalence rates of between 52-54%

A Pilot Study of the Effectiveness of Cognitive Resilience Training on Anxiety, Depression, and Suicidal Ideation Among Students of a Selected University in Mexico

    No full text
Mental distress burdens student populations; meanwhile, intervention-based studies are insufficient. This pilot study examined the effectiveness of cognitive resilience training (CRT) in enhancing students’ mental health. This experimental design study recruited 29 participants (mean age = 21.70; SD = 2.55) from the Autonomous University of Ciudad Juarez (UACJ) in northern Mexico. A questionnaire pack containing the General Anxiety Disorder-2, Patient Health Questionnaire-2, Plutchik Suicide Risk Scale, and Brief Resilience Scale was utilized. At the pretest, there was no significant difference between the experimental group (EG) and the control group (CG). At the posttest, the CG scored higher on anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation compared to its EG counterparts. However, the EG’s participants exhibited higher resilience, leading to a reduction in mental distress compared to their control group counterparts. The study concluded that CRT is an effective intervention for enhancing students’ mental health. Therefore, it is recommended for use in university clinical settings
