Autoimmune Haemolytic Anaemia and Multiple Autoimmune Syndrome
The presence of different autoimmune disorders in the same individual is called multiple autoimmune syndrome (MAS). One of these co-occurring conditions is autoimmune haemolytic anaemia (AIHA), which is characterized by the production of autoantibodies against red blood cells due to immune system malfunction and which results in severe tissue oxygenation disturbance. AIHA is not uncommon but occurs rarely in MAS; if it does, MAS is then classified as MAS type III. Herein, we describe a case of MAS type III including AIHA which was successfully treated with hydrocortisone with gradual resolution of symptoms
Riorganizzazione Rete Scientifica 2018-2019
Migration Issues before International Courts and Tribunals
The volume collects 16 contributions on the role of international Courts and Tribunals in the development and/or application of migration law, fostering a dialogical approach among scholars, experts and policy makers in addressing relevant issues of judicial practice in the field.
Special attention is paid throughout the volume to issues of human rights, given their centrality in international adjudication on migration and refugee law in times of crisis (suffice it to mention massive movements of people at sea, as well as de facto or de iure emergency situations in Europe and beyond)
Defining urban green infrastructure role in analysis of climate resiliency in cities based on landscape ecology theories
Cities are exposed to the risk of climate change and as a result, are very vulnerable. In recent years, to face the challenges caused by the climate change, the notion of climate resilience and specifically, urban ecological resilience, has been studied. Climate resilience is in focus of this paper and a subcategory of urban ecological resilience, which is defined as the urban resilience to the climate change.
Also, urban green infrastructure has an established role as one of the strategies for adapting to climate change and for developing and promoting climate resilience in cities. Given the theoretical gap existing in this field, this question arises: "How and based on which features of the green infrastructure can we assess and analyze the climate resilience in a city?” To answer this question, the landscape ecology principles and relationship between these principles and the green infrastructure in the cities were used. The relationship was developed in the Yousef Abad neighborhood of Tehran and was qualitatively tested using the aerial images, field surveys and preparation of basic and analytical GIS maps. Finally, the "effective factors in assessing the climate resilience in cities using the urban green infrastructures based on landscape ecology" were obtained
Review Pages: The Times They Are a-Changin' 1 (2019)
Starting from the relationship between urban planning and mobility management, TeMA has
gradually expanded the view of the covered topics, always remaining in the groove of rigorous
scientific in-depth analysis. During the last two years a particular attention has been paid on
the Smart Cities theme and on the different meanings that come with it. The last section of the
journal is formed by the Review Pages. They have different aims: to inform on the problems,
trends and evolutionary processes; to investigate on the paths by highlighting the advanced
relationships among apparently distant disciplinary fields; to explore the interaction’s areas,
experiences and potential applications; to underline interactions, disciplinary developments
but also, if present, defeats and setbacks.
Inside the journal the Review Pages have the task of stimulating as much as possible the
circulation of ideas and the discovery of new points of view. For this reason the section is
founded on a series of basic’s references, required for the identification of new and more
advanced interactions. These references are the research, the planning acts, the actions and
the applications, analysed and investigated both for their ability to give a systematic response
to questions concerning the urban and territorial planning, and for their attention to aspects
such as the environmental sustainability and the innovation in the practices. For this purpose
the Review Pages are formed by five sections (Web Resources; Books; Laws; Urban
Practices; News and Events), each of which examines a specific aspect of the broader
information storage of interest for TeMA

When Do Ring-Enhancing Brain Lesions Need to Be Biopsied, and Should They Be Treated Empirically First?
Other than acute cerebrovascular accidents, multiple ring-enhancing lesions are among the most common lesions encountered in neuroimaging. We herein describe the case of a 63-year-old diabetic man presenting with altered mental status, hyperglycaemia and community-acquired pneumonia who was found to have two ring-enhancing lesions involving the left frontal lobe and left basal ganglia. The lesions were biopsied to reveal positive fungal cultures and toxoplasma cysts. RPR titres returned reactive for non-treponemal antibodies and a suppressed CD4 count was found without evidence of HIV infection
The Perfect Storm: A Case of Non-Uremic Calciphylaxis
Calciphylaxis is a severe condition associated with chronic kidney disease. We describe a rare case of non-uremic calciphylaxis in a 79-year-old woman with prosthetic aortic and mitral valves, chronic kidney disease and anaemia, who presented with painful skin lesions on her left leg. She was taking warfarin, calcium and iron supplements, and had been recently diagnosed with oligoarthritis and started on prednisolone, all factors associated with calciphylaxis. Despite treatment, the lesions rapidly progressed to large ulceration and sepsis, and pain management was challenging. Calciphylaxis was confirmed following a second skin biopsy but the patient died from septic shock and multi-organ failure. This case highlights the challenges associated with the diagnosis and treatment of calciphylaxis despite a high level of suspicion
