21-cm line anomaly: A brief status
In this proceedings I briefly present the status of the global 21-cm signal detected by EDGES in March 2018. It is organized in three parts. First, I present the EDGES experiment and the fitting procedure used by the collaboration to extract the tiny 21-cm signal from large foregrounds of galactic synchrotron emission. Then, I review the physics behind the global 21-cm signature and I explain why the measured absorption feature is anomalous with respect to the predictions from standard astrophysics. I conclude with the implications for Beyond Standard Model (BSM) physics coming from the EDGES discovery
LEMMA approach for the production of low-emittance muon beams
This work introduces an experimental test of the new proposal for a low–emittance muon accelerator (LEMMA). A low–emittance muon beam is obtained from the e+e− → μ+μ− annihilation process at the threshold energy of 45 GeV eliminating the need for a dedicated muon cooling system. A series of two testbeam campaigns were carried out at CERN to validate this concept. The experimental setup is presented together with first preliminary results from the obtained data
Partire, lavorare, parlare: uno sguardo all'emigrazione italiana dal 1945 agli anni Settanta
This chapter describes the history of italian emigration since the second world
war. Emigration after the war depended on many social and economic variables,
as well as the difficulties of integration in the countries to which they
emigrated. Those leaving often only hoped to scrape together small amounts
useful for planning their future and that of their own family. Those countries
who received the immigrants, did not want them to remain for too long: the
countries that welcomed manpower did so under strict conditions and by linking
the immigrant presence to contracts of employment. In the 60s and 70s
italian emigration was less precarious, but after the economic crisis (1973) a lot
of people was forced to return to Italy. The characteristics of the relationship
between multilingualism and emigration in this period are very much influenced
by social and political conditions
Deposition of thin films containing carboxylic acid groups on polyurethane foams by atmospheric pressure non-equilibrium plasma jet
Thin films containing carboxylic acid groups are deposited on open-cell polyurethane (PU) foams by using an atmospheric pressure non-equilibrium plasma jet, in dielectric barrier
discharge configuration, fed with helium, acrylic acid and ethylene. The arrangement of the plasma jet, the sample holder, and the substrate is carefully optimized to enable the penetration of the plasma ejected from the remote source throughout the threedimensional (3D) porous structure of the foam, and, therefore, to achieve the uniform coverage of the entire substrate. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analyses and scanning electron microscopy observations confirm that both the outer and the inner surfaces of the foam can be functionalized with the plasma-deposited coating, showing moderate changes in surface chemical composition and
coating thickness moving from the exterior to the interior of the plasma-treated samples. The ability of the foams to adsorb heavy metals from water is tested through evaluation of cadmium ions (Cd2+) removal. The foams adsorption capacity can increase more than 10 times after plasma deposition and remains unchanged over 8 adsorption-release cycles

Treviso, as many other historical towns in Italy, is a large and multi-stratified site occupied since the Bronze Age to the present time. This study was oriented to model trend surfaces, representative of the ground level of the city in Roman Age, on the basis of stratigraphic data. GIS spatial analyses were performed to select a reliable dataset. DTM was obtained by the interpolation of elevation points related to significant features, with the aim to contribute to the study of the ancient landscape and to support the evaluation of risks connected with public works that may impact local archaeological heritage
Archaeology and computers: a long story in the making of modern archaeology
The growing success, for more than fifty years, of the scientific contribution of computer applications and quantitative methods in archaeology may be now reviewed and analyzed from different technological and sociological points of view. This examination allows us to appreciate the material importance of such contributions and how the community of specialists in computational archaeology should play a major role in the future of 21st-century archaeology
Landscape features are the result of interrelated actions of man-and-nature and can provide ecosystem services that need to be protected. Since urban planning policies can impact negatively on the conservation of cultural ecosystem services, urban plans must map them and make provision for their protection. For the Plan of Franciacorta (22 municipalities in Lombardy), we chose QGIS to set up a geo-database and map cultural heritage information. QGIS can provide more flexibility than a typical map, thanks to its graphics tools. To plan the development of actions to protect the landscape and suggest a range of planning opportunities for municipalities, an integrated representation of the landscape and protected ecological elements can highlight some critical issues: municipal borders can prove an obstacle in the implementation of supra-municipal projects and protected areas can include enclaves potentially vulnerable to urban pressures. Such maps have proved useful in guiding the planning choices in the development of the landscape protection schemes. The geo-location of critical aspects has brought out a range of inter-municipal planning opportunities
