Heat transfer and dynamics characterization of porous structures for high-density adsorption storages
In the present work, different metal foams, were realized and experimentally tested in order to define the most suitable ones for heat storage applications. At first, morphology characterization of the materials through an optical microscope was carried out. Subsequently, heat transfer capacity was evaluated by means of a self-developed apparatus at CNR-ITAE, which makes use of Peltier cells for cycling the foam samples, while the temperatures in different part of the foams is measured. By means of cycles with different amplitudes and length, the effect of pore size and thickness of the sample was evaluated. Dynamic characterization of the coated foams was carried out by means of a gravimetric Large Temperature Jump apparatus at CNR-ITAE
Cultural Diplomacy & Heritage
The book, published by Eric Yong Joong Lee and Olimpia Niglio, aims to inaugurate projects on the dialogue between Diplomacy, Culture, and Heritage. The collected articles are the result of reflections arising from the authors' direct experiences with reference to diverse cultural contexts between Asia, Europe, and America. Some of these articles have already been published in scientific journals but allow us to re-analyze very current and important issues to share in the international academic context. The book is divided into two sessions: Foreign Affairs and International Law and Culture and Heritage and the structure allows two very important disciplines of Cultural Diplomacy to be dialogued: International Law and Cultural Heritage, an essential combination for cooperation and dialogue between cultures
Late-Onset Rash from Irbesartan: An Immunological Reaction
Cutaneous delayed reactions to antihypertensive drugs have been described in a limited number of case reports but the mechanisms remain mostly unknown. We report the case of a 60-year-old female patient with a 3-week history of an itchy erythematous maculopapular eruption. Although the patient was polymedicated, irbesartan was the most likely culprit. Patch tests and a lymphocyte transformation test to irbesartan were both positive, which was useful for diagnosis and suggested an immunological reaction. No new lesions appeared after irbesartan was stopped or after the introduction of candesartan. Despite its similar chemical structure, candesartan may be tried in patients allergic to irbesartan
Final report for the project ECOAST: “New methodologies for an ecosystem approach to spatial and temporal management of fisheries and aquaculture in coastal areas”
ECOAST aims to identify, develop and test new methodologies for spatial and temporal management of fisheries and aquaculture in coastal areas. The overall approach is aimed at assessing the impact of fisheries and aquaculture on coastal ecosystems, including essential fish habitats and conservation priority habitats, as well as synergies and conflicts between human activities. Building on previous methodologies and experiences the project has evaluated marine spatial planning in seven coastal case study areas having different ecological and socio-economic characteristics: 1) Adriatic Sea (ADR), 2) Ionian Sea (ION), 3) Black Sea (BLK), 4) Tyrrhenian Sea (TYR), 5) Baltic Sea (BAL), 6) Norwegian Fjords (NOR) and 7) NE Atlantic Coast (ATL). The project outcomes produced case specific evaluation of the impact of aquaculture and fisheries in coastal areas, maps of optimal areas for fisheries and aquaculture, evaluation of compatibility between fisheries, aquaculture and other human activities in coastal areas, as well as implementation of holistic methods and an operational modelling framework to evaluate and predict stakeholder responses to coastal spatial management options covering marine cross sector occupation of space. Several methodologies already exist to assess the impacts on the ecosystem and the socio-economic effects of some spatial management measures, as well as to spatially manage some cross sector marine activities, but none of them integrate all relevant management aspects for coastal areas. Therefore, the holistic methodology covered in a single system different approaches and management aspects, identifying realistic spatial and temporal potentials and limitations for the integration of fisheries and aquaculture in coastal areas, in order to allow policy makers and stakeholders to evaluate management measures from different points of view and share decisions in a transparent manner on case specific basis. ECOAST results can support the EU and national policies through the provision of tools and data for an ecosystem based allocation of space and sustainable use of marine resources in coastal areas on case specific basis
In part of the 20th century, especially from the crisis of 1929, the State and the Law were substantiated on a paradigm that demanded a greater action of that one and this one – the Law – was guarantee of balance in the social relations. However, from the phenomenon of the globalization and neoliberalism there has been a substantial modification regarding this paradigm. In this way, this essay, which is characterized as a qualitative research and that uses the bibliographic method, seeks to understand how the relationship between constitutional commandments of the Brazilian Constitution of 1988 and the criminal policy in this new reality occurs. On the other hand, to achieve such an understanding, we will try to identify how the formation of the neoliberal globalization and its consequences occurs, especially in the criminal sphere, has yet, to discuss about the formation of the Democratic State of Law from the Brazilian Constitution and how it needs to return to be a parameter of rationality
Abstract
Starting from the presentation of an innovative program addressing the rehabilitation of sex offenders, implemented inside the Italian prison of Chieti (Casa Circondariale), the article proposes the importance of the inclusion of these offenders as an essential condition for the implementation of specific rehabilitation programs.
Thanks to the collaboration between the prison staff and the researchers coming from the University “G. d’Annunzio”, this experience shows that such offenders are affected by significant cognitive biases. Therefore, it is important to apply a debiasing intervention to better rehabilitate the person and contribute to the reduction of recidivism.
The results of the research that was carried out on 24 people (some of them are sex offenders, some others not) show that the sex offenders are affected more than the others offenders by cognitive biases, and particularly when their victims were over 18.
Moreover, in this paper the authors analyse Italian and international treatment models and finally they propose new research activities in order to extend this kind of program to the entire inmate population of the prison of Chieti
“Beaks and berries”: zoological laboratory (II) of the formative proposal of inclusive scientific divulgation
Searching a topic that help us about the implementation of an inclusive divulgation, aimed also at sensory disabilitiesusers, we have chosen birds as a key to connect different scientific issues (pollution, environmental changes, exploitation of resources) and create new knowledge in a heterogeneous auditorium, through the suggestions that the workshop lessons can infuse on the users, whether they are disabled or not. All this to bring them closer to thescientific contents to which they do not have easy access. In particular, the project aims to develop, deepen and consolidate, through communication and information, issues concerning the concept of biodiversity, in order to sensitize users to safeguard the species and habitats of our territory and make them as the main actors of scientific dissemination.Indeed, weestabilisheda convention between the “Istituto dei Ciechi Opere riunite I. Florio – F. ed A. Salamone” of Palermo and the “Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche - Istituto per lo studio degli impatti Antropici e Sostenibilità in ambiente marino” of Capo Granitola (TP). The main role of this convention is to bring disable people closer to these scientific subjects and make the contents of our laboratories as inclusive as possible. The project "The world of birds", developed from January to April 2019 is divided into three main themes, the second of which is the focus of this report: The bird alimentation
“For whom the Calandra tolls?”: zoological laboratory (III) of the formative proposal of inclusive scientific divulgation
Blind people, though not seeing the world, is nevertheless able to imagine it, activating mental processes different from those of the sighted. They can come in contact with the reality of the world and know it with appreciable effectiveness (Angeli F., 2012). It has been imagined that only the view was the capable sense of allowing the conception of space and its forms. Of course, it was the facts that showed, with increasing clarity, that the lack of sight does not prevent the mental construction of space. Although touch is generally regarded as the sight of the blind, it is important to understand how sight cannot be validly replaced by a single sense. To organize a good relationship with the surrounding reality, the person who does not see needs to activate the whole of their residual senses. In particular, the complementarity between touch and hearing makes us understand like the blind. The touch sense has a very small perceptive field and therefore proceeds bysuccession of spatial fragments, but also presents a very analytical capacity, refined and punctual. Hearing has a greatly extended perceptual field, whichallows the blind to have a broad overall spatial reference but offers insufficient information on the objects and on the particular characteristics of the surrounding space (Coppa M.M., 1997).We have therefore devised a playful-practical laboratory to allow a sensory disabilitypublic, with various degrees of blindness, to reach zoological and scientific contents and then re-connect to more general problems such as the numerous environmental emergencies of this decade. Thanks to a convention between the “IstitutodeiCiechiOpereriunite I. Florio – F. ed A. Salamone” of Palermo and the “Consiglio Nazionale delleRicerche - Istituto per lo studio degliimpattiAntropici e Sostenibilità in ambientemarino” of Capo Granitola (TP), we start with the project "The world of birds", developed from January to April 2019 and divided into three main themes. The third of which is the focus of this report: Nest and songs
