Analisi archeometriche e statistiche per la caratterizzazione di produzioni di bucchero
The aim of this paper is to provide an update to the debate concerning the production technology of bucchero pottery, as well as presenting new data on the use of raw material for its manufacture and the temperatures of firing. This interdisciplinary research focused on a period of technological changes in bucchero production during the sixth century BC, by applying a quantitative analytical approach using X-Ray powder Diffraction (XRD), X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), Thermogravimetric Analysis and Differential Thermal Analysis (TG-DTG), and multivariate statistical analyses. A series of samples from northern Etruria (mainly the area of Volsinii) were compared with products from Veii, Ardea, Segni and Pompeii. XRF and XRD analyses provided quantitative results, statistically analysed, concerning the use of raw material, both calcareous and non-calcareous, and the technology of firing where temperatures reached 950°C or above. TG analysis proved that the black surface of bucchero was due to reduced iron oxides and the presence of carbonaceous material on the surface. However, XRD results demonstrated that firing occurred at a high temperature and the ratio between aluminium and iron in the samples led to the formation of hercynite, an iron-aluminate spinel. The results of the study show that during the sixth century BC the changes in technology to obtain a quality bucchero production were related to a sufficiently long soaking period at a high temperature in a reduced atmosphere, regardless of the presence of calcite in the source material
Trafficking in Human Beings for criminal exploitation from the perspective of victims and professionals
According to a human rights or victim-centred policy on human trafficking, respect for victims’ rights must become a priority. However, this approach may become difficult to adopt in little-known forms of trafficking, such as trafficking aimed at the criminal exploitation of victims. In this work, 10 in-depth interviews with unidentified victims of this type of trafficking – selected from 45 imprisoned women interviewed – and 37 with professionals active in the criminal justice system and in the area of victim assistance have been used to analyse the causes that lead to victims not being identified, as well as the effects that this lack of identification produces when they pass through the criminal justice system. Different measures to encourage the development of a more victim-centred policy in this area as a way to contribute to the promotion of a more just and inclusive society are among the proposals formulated to reverse this situation
The 30th anniversary of ‘Archeologia e Calcolatori’ has offered the chance to focus on its rich repository of scientific contents and to envisage further strategies to better classify the journal’s papers. Mapping web resources is crucial in organizing and managing cultural information in the Semantic Web and Internet of Things (IoT) perspective. In this context, the editorial board has decided to adopt geographical and chronological annotation strategies and to implement established gazetteers of geographical and historical entities. The first step in this annotation project was to experiment with the ‘Recogito’ Pelagios tool, an international initiative aimed at facilitating better associations between online resources documenting the past. Furthermore, an analysis has been undertaken by means of Social Network Analysis techniques, which in the last years has been developed to cover a wide interdisciplinary field of study, including social and behavioral sciences, economics, psychology, anthropology. The paper illustrates the main results, to highlight connections between themes and technologies in the papers published over the last ten years
Umbilical Sebaceous Cyst Mimicking Infected Urachal Sinus
In addition to the most likely diagnoses for umbilical signs in adults (umbilical hernia, metastatic tumour, endometriosis, congenital abnormalities such as umbilical-urachal sinus and gallstones retained or spilled at the umbilicus), the differential diagnosis should also include epidermoid cyst arising from the skin of the umbilicus. We describe the case of a young man who presented with a persistent umbilical discharge which was initially thought to be umbilical-urachal sinus, but later found to be a sebaceous cyst
Put Your Lights On: Electrocution As a Cause of an Unexplained Fall and Loss of Consciousness
Electrical accidents are not reported very frequently, and may occur undetected as the signs are often manifold and not very specific. We report the case of a 43-year-old woman admitted to hospital due to a fall of unclear cause, with loss of consciousness, partial amnesia, paresis of both legs and crush syndrome. Only by thorough and repeated history-taking, and a careful physical examination that revealed burns typical of electrical current injuries, was the case resolved. With this case presentation, we would like to make the reader aware of electrocution as a possible cause of bruises and unconsciousness of unclear origin
Superior Vena Cava Syndrome: An Uncommon Presentation of a Rare Colon Carcinoma Metastasis
Introduction:Superior vena cava (SVC) syndrome is caused by obstruction of the superior vena cava due to vascular compression by a mass or intrinsic obstruction. The authors describe SVC syndrome caused by an isolated metastatic mediastinal mass from a resected primary colon carcinoma.
Case Report: An 81-year-old woman was referred to the hospital with swelling of the neck and upper left limb, dysphonia and dysphagia, associated with an involuntary weight loss of 16 kg. Mediastinal metastasis of colon adenocarcinoma was found, causing the SVC syndrome. The mass was unresectable and the patient was referred to palliative radiotherapy.
Discussion: Only 12 cases of mediastinal metastasis from colorectal cancer have been reported in the English literature.
Conclusion: As a rare manifestation of colorectal cancer, the presented case highlights the need for clinicians to be aware of rare metastases at the time of diagnosis

Study of micronized olive leaves (mol) and phenolic compounds: osteoblastic stimulation, osteocalcin synthesis and bone formation. Prevention of postmenopausal Osteoporosis and Spaceflight osteoporosis.
The project aims to identify and analyze the unexplored therapeutic potential offered by the administration of a pool of phenolic compounds derived from the oleic leaves of the olive tree (Olea europaea L.) in micronized form: Micronized Olive Leaves (MOL), on diseases of bone metabolism and replacement, particularly on the prevention of osteoporosis.
To develop this design idea, we will gradually articulate some steps: the general dietary nutrition to the Mediterranean diet and its basic nutritional properties, the role of phenolic compounds on bone tissue, and in which the functional contribution of phenols and the effects on bone metabolism utilize the role of osteoblastic stimulation with the production of osteocalcin (OC) as a potential therapeutic agent in the formation of the bone matrix
