Penggunaan Penciptaan Seni Bersama Dalam Keterlibatan Komuniti Untuk Meningkatkan Kualiti Kesejahteraan Sosial
Projek seni komuniti telah banyak dilaksanakan oleh pelbagai pihak termasuk institusi awam, organisasi bukan kerajaan, kolektif seni dan individu. Walaupun begitu, kaedah dan modul pelaksanaan serta aspek penilaian projek keterlibatan komuniti ini masih lagi kabur dan membingungkan. Lantaran itu, projek-projek seni komuniti terdahulu tidak menawarkan maklumat, pengetahuan dan bukti terhadap manfaat yang telah diraih oleh komuniti. Pembuktian yang definitif terhadap manfaat yang diraih oleh komuniti perlu dipersembahkan untuk membina pengetahuan seni. Justeru itu, kajian ini dijalankan untuk meneroka teori penciptaan seni bersama dengan keterlibatan komuniti untuk meningkatkan kualiti kesejahteraan sosial. Projek penciptaan seni bersama dijalankan di dua lokasi terpilih iaitu Kampung Muhibbah dan Kampung Bako, Kuching, Sarawak yang telah melibatkan 60 orang peserta. Projek penciptaan seni bersama ini dilaksanakan dengan menerapkan aktiviti seni seperti penghasilan arca daripada bahan kitar semula, fotografi dan video telefon pintar
Performance Of Vibration-Induced Electrode Plates In Batch Electrocoagulation For Stabilized Landfill Leachate Treatment
The high strength of landfill leachate has limited the efficiency of electrocoagulation due to several drawbacks such as the passivation of electrodes and accumulation of bubbles at the surface of the electrode which increased the resistance of ions transfer. This study investigated the performance of batch electrocoagulation with vibration-induced electrode plates in the treatment of stabilized landfill leachate obtained from Pulau Burung Landfill to improve the removal of COD, colour and NH3-N removal. The preliminary study of the effect of interelectrode distance, current density and electrolysis time studied revealed that the removal of pollutants showed an increasing trend until reaching optimum conditions. Further experimental design involving the initial pH, vibration intensity and electrolysis time indicated that the optimum conditions were obtained at pH 4.4, 45 minutes and vibration intensity of 3.8V with 23.8% COD, 92.8% colour and 43.8% NH3-N, respectively. The optimum conditions setup was further analysed and compared with stationary electrocoagulation and electrocoagulation with aid of magnetic stirring at 200 rpm. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed that electrocoagulation with vibration-induced shows smooth and identical dents compared to other electrocoagulation intensification The degree of particle destabilization indicates that vibration-induced electrocoagulation obtained faster steady states compared to other electrocoagulation
Nutritional Analysis And Hazard Risk Assessments Of Selected Aquaculture Species In Penang Focusing On Fish Oil Characteristics Of Golden Pompano (Trachinotus Blochii)
Aquaculture is a rapidly growing food production sector to alleviate global
hunger, malnutrition, food security and nutrition deprivation. This study is aimed to
explore a comprehensive spectrum of nutritional composition using aquaculture
species. High commodity values aquaculture species in Penang, Malaysia were
selected, and their nutritional quantification and health risk estimation were assessed.
The study also extracted fish oil from the aquaculture products and evaluating their
biological activities. Six marine aquaculture species, namely bigeye trevally, golden
pompano, golden snapper, grouper, red snapper, and seabass were studied extensively.
All cultured species contained adequate protein and lipid content, ranging from 21.1
to 26.9%, and 0.4 to 10.7%, respectively. Essential amino acid (EAA) to the total
amino acid ratio (TAA) of culture species was comparable to the FAO reference values
(50%), with leucine and lysine demonstrated the most important EAA. Fatty acid
profiling showed that seabass and grouper were rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids
(PUFAs), particularly docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Golden pompano and red snapper
contained the greatest values of riboflavin and pyridoxine. The nutritional quality
indices indicated that the cultured species were within the permissible ratios (<1) for
both atherogenic and thrombogenic indices. All cultured species potentially
contributed more than 10% of protein, vitamin D3, and B2, K, Mg, P, and less than 1%
of vitamin A, E, B6, Na, and Ca for both the adult and children populations in Malaysia
Acltshe-Amts: A New Adaptive Brain Tumour Enhancement And Segmentation Approaches
Brain tumor subregion segmentation from multimodal Magnetic Resonance (MR) images is of great interest for better tumor diagnosis. Multilevel thresholding is one of the prominent approaches used for brain image segmentation. Currently, when applying multilevel thresholding for brain tumor segmentation, two important problems must be carefully addressed. First, the MR brain images suffer from sensitivity to intensity inhomogeneity, poor contrast, and hidden details, which corrupt the original MR image during capturing. Second, the conventional multilevel thresholding approaches, including optimization-based thresholding approaches, have several main issues, such as manual adjustment of multilevel thresholds, dedicating single thresholding criteria as objective functions, leading to the bias of the thresholding towards a specific type of MR image, and the requirement to tune a large number of control parameters. In this thesis, a two-stage approach is proposed to address these issues. In the first stage, a new image enhancement approach called Adaptive Clip Limit Tile Size Histogram Equalization (ACLTSHE) is proposed to improve contrast, highlight the hidden details, and achieve homogenized intensity distribution of MR images. The ACLTSHE integrates Contrast-Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization, Multi-Objective Whale Optimization Algorithm, Discrete Entropy (DE), Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR), and Structure Similarity Index (SSI) to improve the quality of MR images while preserving the original structure of the MR images. Exploring The Importance Of English Proficiency: An Analysis Of The Intended And Enacted Curriculum Of The Pismp Tesl Programme At The Institute Of Teacher Education
The demand for highly proficient TESL teachers has become a national concern, driven by the widespread issue of poor English proficiency among current English language teachers in Malaysia. In response, in-service teachers who did not meet the required proficiency levels were enrolled in the Professional Up-skilling of English Language Teachers (Pro-ELT) programme. This situation raises questions about the effectiveness of pre-service training in addressing proficiency needs, leading to this study’s focus on the importance of English proficiency within the PISMP TESL programme offered at Institutes of Teacher Education in Malaysia. This qualitative case study aimed to analyse the extent to which English proficiency is prioritised in both the intended and enacted curriculum of the PISMP TESL programme. Content analysis of relevant curriculum documents was conducted to determine how proficiency is explicitly addressed in the intended curriculum. Additionally, semi-structured interviews with six teacher educators and eight student teachers were used to gather insights into the emphasis placed on proficiency in the enacted curriculum. Participants were selected from two Institutes of Teacher Education in Malaysia. The findings reveal that English proficiency is not given significant importance in either the intended or enacted curriculum of the PISMP TESL programme. This research concludes that there is a critical need for policymakers, administrators and teacher educators to re-evaluate and enhance the curriculum

Effects of moderate-intensity training exercise program on body composition and metabolic markers among overweight and obese dental students in Universiti Sains Malaysia
Overweight and obesity are global health issues that pose a threat to individuals in various professions, including dentistry. Dental practitioners often spend prolonged hours in a seated position while treating patients, placing them at a higher risk of developing low back pain. Studies have consistently reported that back pain has a strong correlation with overweight and obesity and significantly impacts the quality of life. Hence, it is crucial to raise awareness among dental students about the importance of maintaining a healthy body mass index (BMI) and lifestyle to prevent factors that contribute to back pain during their undergraduate studies and future dental practice. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effects of moderate-intensity training programs on body composition and metabolic markers among overweight and obese dental students of Universiti Sains Malaysia. Methodology: Thirty-three overweight and obese dental students (control, n=17 and exercise, n=16) were recruited, and their body composition and blood samples were collected pre- and post-intervention. Participants' 24-hour diet recalls were recorded. Students participated in 10 minutes of dynamic warm-up, followed by moderate-intensity Tabata exercise, carried out three times per week for 12 weeks, with an incremental increase in exercise duration every four weeks. Data was analysed using Independent T-test and Paired Sample T-test for normally distributed data and Mann-Whitney U test and Wilcoxon-Signed Ranked test for not normally distributed data. Results: After 12 weeks of intervention, the exercise group showed no significant differences in resting metabolic rate (RMR) of 1524.1±60.24 kcal/day (p>0.584), while their BMI remained stable at 27.8±0.88 kg/m2, indicating no significant change in body composition. Conversely, the control group showed a significant difference in BMI (p<0.034) which had increase in post-intervention (28.92±3.87 kg/m2). Both groups exhibited increases pattern levels of total cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL (high-density lipoprotein) and LDL (low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol, insulin, and IL-6 (interleukin-6) post-intervention. Additionally, the participants consumed high amounts of protein, fats, and sodium, exceeding the recommended nutrient intake (RNI). Conclusion: This study revealed that there were no significant differences in body composition between the control and exercise groups. However, the maintenance of BMI in the exercise group represents a positive outcome as it indicates that participants did not experience weight gain during the intervention. The investigation also detected increases pattern levels of total cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL and LDL cholesterol, insulin, and IL-6, a pro-inflammatory cytokine, in both group, which could be associated with excessive adipose tissue and high caloric intake. Therefore, future studies with stricter dietary restrictions are needed to determine the effects of moderate-intensity physical exercise on dental students' body compositio
The Inculcation Of Critical Thinking In The Teaching Of Basic Science Education In Selected Schools In Nigeria
The thesis is an investigative research based on the descriptive qualitative case study of critical thinking manifestations in basic science education level from the philosophical perspectives. Qualitative data was collected from interviews, observation and document analysis, using interview protocol, fieldnotes and documents analysis which were later excerpted, coded, and themed. Further discussion was carried and performed in line with themes analysed. Five basic science teachers, purposely selected on certain inclusion criteria, participated in the study from three different categories of public schools in Nigeria, that served as research sites. The themes were identified and discussed. Generally, the themes revealed that there are no objectives on critical thinking in the basic science education curriculum, teachers’ classroom stated objectives and the assessment/evaluation questions. The themes further revealed basic science as simply a foundational science subject; and some teachers’ non clarity with curriculum objectives. In addition, the themes revealed that the curriculum only have clear provisions for behavioural objectives; Noncritical thinking objectives. It revealed that, no training on critical thinking (for the teachers at the preservice or in service training); the teachers’ noncritical thinking instructions; Teacher - centred classes; Non reflection of high Bloom’s or 5 E’s model; Inadequate resources (for teaching in the research sites). Further, the themes revealed that the teachers’ assessment is guided by the curriculum; Non assessment of critical thinking; and inappropriate questioning strategies
