    No full text

Analysis of erosion rates in North Jakarta for predicting the ages of North Sunter and Pluit Reservoirs

    No full text
The Pluit and North Sunter Reservoirs play a critical role in the city’s hydrological infrastructure, particularly in meeting the increasing water demands driven by population growth. However, continuous population shifts, deforestation, and changes in land use have led to sediment accumulation, affecting both water quality and the reservoirs’ operational lifespan. This study aims to evaluate the erosion rate and predict the potential lifespans of the Sunter Utara and Pluit Reservoirs. This research was conducted by integrating Geographic Information Systems and remote sensing using Sentinel-2 datasets and the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) method to calculate sediment accumulation. The findings indicate that the erosion rate in North Jakarta reaches 54,872 tons per year, resulting in an annual sediment accumulation of 25,334 tons. Based on these results, the Sunter Utara Reservoir and Pluit Reservoir are projected to have operational lifespans of 17 and 47 years, respectively. An analysis of erosion hazards shows that the majority of North Jakarta (72.65 percent) falls into the mild category. Considering these findings, appropriate measures must be taken to manage sediment in both reservoirs so that they can be utilized effectively by their projected operational lifespans

    No full text
In live-streaming commerce, anchors play a pivotal role in driving sales. Grounded in the Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R) model, this study examines how anchor characteristics—attractiveness, expertise, and trustworthiness—influence Generation Z's urge to buy impulsively. Data was collected from 272 Malaysian Generation Z consumers with live-streaming shopping experiences and analyzed using SmartPLS 4. The findings reveal that anchor characteristics significantly impact consumer arousal and the urge to buy impulsively. Additionally, the influence of arousal on impulse buying is stronger among women than men. However, this study has a limitation in terms of gender imbalance in the sample (82.7% female vs. 17.3% male), which may affect the generalizability of gender-based findings. Despite this limitation, this study enhances the understanding of online impulsive buying among Generation Z, providing scholars and marketers with valuable insights into this young consumer group's live-streaming purchasing behavior

    No full text
This article analyzes Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's leadership in Malaysia's foreign policy towards China through a pragmatic diplomatic approach grounded in Malay civilizational values. The study argues that while Abdullah maintained the continuity of close bilateral ties initiated by Mahathir Mohamad, he also introduced a new approach that was more moderate, harmonious, and reflective of Malay characteristics, emphasizing consultation (musyawarah) and balance in policy decision-making. Accordingly, this study adopts a qualitative approach through a combination of literature review and semi-structured interviews to examine the implementation of Abdullah’s foreign policy across three levels of analysis commonly used in the field of international relations: international, domestic, and individual. The findings indicate that Abdullah’s leadership succeeded in strengthening Malaysia–China bilateral relations not only in economic terms, but also in socio-cultural and security dimensions. His initiatives through platforms such as the East Asia Summit and the promotion of the global halal industry demonstrated Malaysia’s commitment to building stronger regional synergy with China. Furthermore, the study reveals that Abdullah’s modest personality, and his background rooted in Malay civilizational values served as a crucial foundation in shaping a more credible and stable diplomatic posture at the regional level. This study contributes to the discourse on the importance of local cultural elements in shaping the foreign policy of small states and reinforces the significance of leadership personality in international relations. The implications of the study provide deeper insight into how traditional values can be strategically embedded within the increasingly complex international political environment. Future research is recommended to compare Abdullah’s diplomatic approach with that of his successors, particularly in the post–Belt and Road Initiative context and in the evolving dynamics of ASEAN–China relations

Glyphosate remains one of the most extensively applied herbicides worldwide; however, its persistence in the environment raises concerns regarding ecological safety and human health, underscoring the need for sustainable remediation approaches. This study focused on isolating and characterising indigenous soil bacteria from Kota Marudu, Sabah, agricultural soil with the capacity to degrade glyphosate-based herbicides. Soil samples were enriched in minimal salt medium (MSM) supplemented with Roundup for seven days, after which bacterial isolates were screened for tolerance across different Roundup concentrations. Morphological and biochemical profiling was conducted, and partial Identification was achieved using the ABIS online platform. Biodegradation efficiency was evaluated through degradation assays. Three isolates, designated KM1, KM2, and KM4, exhibited tolerance to Roundup concentrations up to 6 mL/L (v/v). Gram staining confirmed all isolates as Gram-positive; KM1 displayed a rod-shaped morphology, whereas KM2 and KM4 were coccoid. Biochemically, KM1 tested positive for catalase activity, all sugar fermentations, the Voges–Proskauer test, and citrate utilisation. KM2 and KM4 were catalase-positive, Voges-Proskauer-positive, and citrate-positive but failed to ferment sucrose while fermenting other tested sugars. ABIS-based Identification suggested KM1 belonged to the genus Bacillus, while KM2 and KM4 were classified as Staphylococcus sp. After three days, glyphosate degradation efficiencies reached 82.8%, 83.1%, and 80.1% for KM1, KM2, and KM4, respectively. These findings highlight the potential of indigenous Gram-positive bacteria in glyphosate biodegradation. Further molecular Identification, optimisation of degradation parameters, and evaluation under field-relevant conditions are warranted to assess their applicability in agricultural bioremediation strategies

Rotifers play a crucial role in the aquaculture industry, particularly in the early stages of marine fish and crustacean larval rearing. This study aimed to identify the optimal feeding rates and frequencies for rotifers (Brachionus plicatilis), which are essential live feed in aquaculture. B. plicatilis (L- strain, mean lorica length 195.5 μm) was used in this experiment. The experiment consisted of 9 different combination treatments of feeding rates and feeding frequencies. 4- liter plastic jars were used for a 5-day experiment. An automated feeder was used to regulate the feeding rates and frequencies. Water temperature was set at 30℃ using aquarium heaters. Commercial concentrated Nannochloropsis sp. was used as feed throughout the experiment. The highest rotifer density, 378±12 rotifers/mL, was observed with a feeding rate of 200,000 cells/rotifer and a feeding frequency of 6 times per day (GR=1.18±0.006 day⁻¹). This was followed by a rotifer density of 292±9.54 rotifers/mL at a feeding rate of 100,000 cells/rotifer and the same feeding frequency (GR=1.13±0.007 day⁻¹). In contrast, the lowest density, 129±4.73 rotifers/mL, occurred with a feeding rate of 200,000 cells/rotifer and a feeding frequency of 2 times per day (GR=0.96±0.008 day⁻¹). The highest egg percentage (EP), 32.24±1.43%, was observed with a feeding rate of 200,000 cells/mL and a feeding frequency of 6 times per day, compared to the other treatments. It is deduced that both feeding rate and frequency have a significant effect on the population growth and the production of rotifers for aquaculture

    No full text
The global demand for food continues to increase annually due to the persistent growth of the human population. This rising demand ignites a range of challenges, including resource shortage and the substantial waste generated by the agricultural sector. One significant issue is the incomplete consumption of fruits, where various edible components, such as peels, seeds, and cores, are often discarded, leading to considerable food waste on a global scale. Additionally, agricultural byproducts, including seed coats, husks, pomace, and other plant residues, frequently become underutilized, contributing to environmental degradation. To address these concerns, the efficient valorization of food byproducts, particularly fruit residues, represents a promising strategy for enhancing food system sustainability. Many agricultural byproducts, especially those derived from fruits, are rich in bioactive compounds, including dietary fibres, antioxidants, and micronutrients, which could serve as valuable functional ingredients in the food industry. This review provides an overview of recent advancements in the development of functional foods utilizing various agricultural byproducts, with a particular focus on fruit residues. Furthermore, the review highlights the potential nutritional and functional benefits of incorporating these byproducts into food products, offering a pathway to both reduce waste and improve the nutritional profile of food products

Moral compass or peer influence? Examining the drivers of academic honesty in higher education

    No full text
Academic dishonesty continues to be a pressing issue in higher education, with ethical responsibility and social pressure playing key roles in shaping students' commitment to academic integrity. This study explores the influence of these factors on academic honesty among university students, utilizing partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to analyze survey responses. Data were collected from 750 university students, with 95% of the responses deemed usable for analysis. The findings reveal that ethical responsibility serves as the strongest determinant of academic honesty, underscoring the pivotal role of intrinsic moral responsibility in ethical decision-making. In contrast, social pressure has a weaker yet statistically significant impact, suggesting that while peer influence affects students' ethical choices, it does not overshadow personal moral convictions. These results align with Rest’s four-component model of moral behavior and social learning theory, reaffirming the combined influence of internal values and external factors on ethical conduct. The study underscores the importance of ethics education, faculty role modelling, and institutional policies in fostering a culture of academic integrity within universities. While positive peer influence can reinforce ethical behavior, interventions should primarily focus on strengthening students’ internal moral responsibility

There are differing perspectives among Islamic scholars regarding the determination of the auspicious time for supplication (du‘a) on Fridays. There exist over 30 viewpoints, with the widely accepted opinion being that the auspicious time is after the ‘Asr prayer. These differences arise due to the general nature of the hadiths concerning the auspicious time for supplication on Fridays. Based on these hadiths, al-Suyūṭī opined that the auspicious time for supplication on Fridays occurs when the Imam stands during the iqāmah before the Friday prayer. This view of al-Suyūṭī is articulated in his work, al-Lum‘ah fī Khaṣā’iṣ Yawm al-Jumu‘ah, which compiles hadiths on the virtues of Fridays. Thus, this study aims to examine al-Suyūṭī's determination of the auspicious time on Fridays as outlined in his work, based on the concept of mawḍū‘ī hadith. To achieve this objective, a library research methodology grounded in qualitative research with a content analysis design was thoroughly employed in the data collection process, followed by analysis using inductive and deductive methods. The findings of the study indicate that in selecting this particular time, al-Suyūṭī applied several steps characteristic of mawḍū‘ī hadith study, including the initial compilation of relevant hadiths, followed by their analysis, and subsequently establishing correlations among the hadiths. Although al-Suyūṭī’s view differs from the more widely accepted opinions, he is found to have his unique methodology in determining the auspicious time for supplication on Fridays. This methodology is grounded in several strong evidence derived from hadith, which he employs as his arguments
