Research Data Management: A Study with Special Reference to Smart Libraries
Smart libraries are created by the integration of cutting-edge technologies known as research data management, or RDM. The modern library, or “smart library,” combines smart people, smart technologies, and smart services. The study demonstrates how new smart technologies are making smart libraries smarter, improving their operational capacities and satisfying the needs of the consumers that utilize them. By integrating smart technologies, libraries are now better equipped to meet the ever-evolving and conflicting needs of their patrons. In the future, this could also help the library’s relevance to research communities. This chapter also highlights the necessity of enhancing librarians’ RDM competences and skills and considers the dynamics of rivalry and cooperation in RDM, as well as newly developed smart technologies in smart libraries and how they affect the user experience, services provided, and technological integration of libraries
Relación personal-estudiantes según indicadores de estándares internacionales en bibliotecas universitarias de redes católicas
The aim of this paper is to analyse the relationship between the number of staff and the student population in the university libraries of Catholic or Catholic-oriented cooperation networks, specifically BUCOC, AUSJAL and ODUCAL, in terms of international standards and their respective indicators. The research is exploratory-descriptive and has a quantitative approach. A questionnaire was used to collect data. The results show that 25 institutions (40%) out of the 62 analysed meet the standard of 1 staff member per 333 students, while 10 meet the standard of 1 staff member per 250 students. It is concluded that, although some institutions meet the standards and others are close to achieving them, most are still far from achieving an adequate ratio of library staff to student population
La Comisión Protectora de Bibliotecas Populares en cifras : Análisis cuantitativo del desarrollo de la institución y las bibliotecas populares (1931-1949)
In this article we address the quantitative development of the Comisión Protectora de Bibliotecas Populares and of the popular libraries in Argentina between 1931 and 1949, with the main objective of establishing a diagnosis of the national librarianship sector, to understand the anchoring effect of the implementation reading related library policies by the central institution. From the organization’s public sources we reconstruct, systematize and compare data that allows us to make a detailed diachronic review of the evolution of the associations in relation to the benefactor institution, with the distribution of bibliographic materials and with the readers who frequented them, according to dynamics of progression and distribution. The main conclusion leads to demonstrating the progressive and sustained growth that the popular libraries experienced during the presidencies of Juan Pablo Echagüe (1931-1944) and Carlos Alberto Obligado (1944-1949) as a consequence of a specific policy aimed at making popular libraries grow in number, but also in form, thanks to the strengthening of the collections and the increase in readerships
Factores clave en la práctica de la Ciencia Abierta. Un análisis multivariado en el contexto universitario
This study analyzes the perception and practice of open science within the university context, aiming to identify the key factors of its adoption. Employing a quantitative approach, the study utilized a survey as a data collection technique administered to 106 professionals engaged in research activities at a Latin American university (Chile). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques, association tests, and multivariate analysis (binary logistic regression and K-means algorithm). Results revealed that the willingness to engage in open science is strongly influenced by knowledge, interest, and educational level, and moderately by the participant’s role. Three user segments were identified: indifferent, potential, and committed. Additionally, it was found that women and novice researchers exhibit greater interest in learning about the construct, with its practice predominantly observed in the field of sciences. It is concluded that fostering open science practices requires establishing specific institutional policies, developing open data repositories and reports, providing training in data management plans, and disseminating the benefits of open science, thereby contributing to the advancement of shared knowledge and academic and social progress within the community

Family Farming in Angola – Towards Second-Generation Frugal Development
The aim of the current study was two-fold: to provide an updated overview of scientific output in the field of second-generation frugal development, with a particular focus on the state of African research; and to establish a Living Lab in an experimental village to test and integrate technological systems into family agricultural production. This study tested various search strategies across multiple information sources, including Google Scholar, OpenAlex, Lens, and Web of Science. Due to inconsistencies in OpenAlex data downloads and the restrictions associated with Google Scholar’s PoP (Paywall or Publisher) feature, Web of Science (WoS) was selected for the analysis. The results show a wide dispersion of research topics, with main clusters including 3D printing in agriculture, precision farming, mechanical properties, Internet of Things (IoT) and Big Data, food sector, and environment. African research in these areas is largely in its infancy, except for South Africa and Nigeria. African research in second-generation frugal development and related technologies is still in its early stages, with notable progress only in South Africa and Nigeria. The establishment of a Living Lab in an experimental village is proposed to further integrate and test technological systems in family agricultural production
A Survey of Librarians’ Perception and Readiness to Adopt Emerging Technologies for Service Delivery in Medical Libraries in Nigeria
The purpose of the study was to examine the attitudes of librarians toward the potential use of emerging technologies in medical library environments. An online questionnaire was developed by the researchers to collect data on librarians’ perceptions and readiness to adopt emerging technologies in medical libraries within university settings in Nigeria. The questionnaire was emailed to 62 librarians working in various medical libraries at university libraries, beginning in June 2024. Data collection was completed by July 2024. In total, 56 librarians from 20 public universities with medical libraries in Nigeria responded to the survey. The study revealed that librarians are aware of some emerging technologies that can be adopted to provide services in medical libraries, such as cloud computing, the Internet of Things (IoT), virtual reality, blockchain, robots, and chatbots. However, they are not aware of other technologies that could also be used in medical libraries to render services. The study found that the majority of librarians believe that adopting emerging technologies will provide easier access to library resources and services from anywhere with an internet connection. They also feel that such adoption will advance library services. At the same time, some librarians believe that the lack of necessary facilities will hinder the adoption of certain emerging technologies. Moreover, many expressed concern that adopting technologies like robotics could lead to job losses. Overall, the librarians indicated that they are moderately prepared to adopt emerging technologies. Several challenges that could hinder the adoption of these technologies in service delivery were identified. The study emphasizes the need for librarians to proactively engage with emerging technologies and acquire new competencies to remain relevant in the 21st century
Erotismo en tiempos de algoritmos: problemas y experiencias en el archivo y las colecciones digitales
This work reflects on the role of the archive in relation to ways of collecting, thinking, and reconstructing the trajectory of eroticism in Argentina. The article is part of a broader research project on the connections between the cultural consumption of films starring Isabel Sarli and mass culture in the second half of the 20th century. The objective is to explore the particularities in practices and strategies related to the search, identification, and accessibility of records from institutional and digital archives. The military dictatorships of the 1960s and 1970s employed notions of “obscenity,” “pornography,” and “morality” to construct an authoritarian and repressive order at the social, cultural, and political levels. Considering these historical conditions, the logic of the archive, the materiality of the records, the methodological precautions, and the social agents involved in the process are examined. Based on fieldwork conducted in various collections, located in both physical and digital spaces, this study engages with a research field concerned with the notions, implications, and future transformations of these representations of the archive in terms of historiographical agendas and the incorporation of technologies into research work. It is observed that there are difficulties in navigating the criteria for safeguarding and organizing, and that these criteria respond to imaginaries and senses of social and cultural classification. It concludes that the archive, as a “moment,” process, and place, is undergoing mutations that involve the production, possession, and protection of documentation, impacting the ways of historical interpretation and addressing new themes and problems

Decálogo para el uso ético de la inteligencia artificial en revistas científicas y académicas
The rapid advancement of generative artificial intelligence is transforming the processes of production, evaluation, and dissemination of scientific knowledge. Tools such as language models, writing assistants, or image generators are already part of the daily work of many people who research, edit, write, or publish. In this context, and in response to the growing demand for concrete guidance from editorial teams, CAICYT-CONICET developed this Decalogue for the ethical use of artificial intelligence in scientific and academic journals.
The document emerges as a response to the numerous inquiries we have received from journals in Argentina and other countries in the region, and its objective is to provide a clear, accessible, and up-to-date reference framework to support editors and editorial management teams in decision-making
