Beginnings of information literacy in Latin America. A recognition of the pioneers
This article is part of a study that synthesised the origin, evolution, current state, and future trends of information literacy (IL) in Latin America. For this special issue, the first part (the past) is presented as a recognition of the pioneers of this topic in the region; this will be followed up by a future article that will present IL’s current and future developments, following the same methodology and structure. This study employed a quantitative and qualitative review of documents published by Latin American authors to map out IL's development in the region, which was structured around four pivotal “moments” in the development of IL in Latin America: 1) beginnings (1997–2007), which is presented in this article, and marks the initial phase of IL's introduction and early development in Latin America, characterized by foundational texts and the organisation of critical events that set the stage for IL's growth in the region; and three other moments that will be presented in the future article: 2) advances–positioning (2008–2019) pre-pandemic, 3) main trends (2020–2023), and 4) some perspectives (2024–…). The beginnings presented in this article recognise the work of the librarians, professors, researchers and institutions that introduced IL in our region: without these foundations, it would not have been possible to reach the current developments (present) and the emerging perspectives (future)
La incursión de los profesionales de la información en vigilancia tecnológica e inteligencia estratégica en Argentina
Technological surveillance and Strategic intelligence are areas of influence for library and information science (LIS), since they involve functions of search, management and dissemination of specialized information. They represent an expansion of professional concerns within the scientific and technological field, while necessarily involving an interdisciplinary approach. The present study describes the link between the profile of the information professional, the VTeIE process and the National System of Science, Technology and Innovation (NSSTI) in Argentina. To this end, a survey and analysis of the official websites of the public member agencies was carried out and interviews and questionnaires were conducted with experts. The results reveal that information professionals make up 31% of the work teams analyzed and that they are currently assuming a leading role in the NSSTI bodies that perform this type of process, generating products with high added value for knowledge management and innovation. The bibliographic description of school textbooks related to the religious field offers a novel line of work where there are very few existing studies to date. In this sense, the work carries out a bibliographic description of publications that address the analysis of school textbooks in the religious field. In total, a sample of 31 publications has been accessed. The results expose the most discussed topics, the religions pronest to their development and implementation, the diversity they encompass, and the ideology they transmit
Selección y valoración de LIJ para bibliotecas de aula: comparativa entre España, Ecuador y Colombia
The aim of this studycomparison is the clarification of the kind of youth and children’s literature to create a class library, selected by Spaniards, Colombians and Ecuadorians teachers. Minor differences were observed trough data collection and analysis of one of the activities –Selection and evaluation of a small library– of the subject Didáctica de la Lectura of UNIR’s MFA in Didáctica de la Lengua en Educación Infantil y Primaria, answered by current teachers of Spain, Colombia and Ecuador. Nevertheless, a few particularities are detectable in the selection of certain books, as well as in the reasons to exclude other titles. Putting all the data together, is possible to conclude that the selection of the works is not always guided by rigorous criteria, instead the tradition and the personal experience –which is mutable from class to class– seem to be the leading motivations
Manifestaciones de microagresiones raciales en la educación bibliotecaria: enfoque en el trauma racial
The study investigates manifestations of racial microaggressions, with an emphasis on measuring racial trauma experienced by black students enrolled in Library Science courses. The overall goal is to understand how racial microaggressions manifest in this context. Specific objectives include: a conceptual definition of racial microaggressions and their characteristics; categorization of the ways in which these microaggressions manifest in interactions; and application of the Racial Microaggression Scale in Library Science Education. From a methodological point of view, it is applied qualitative research that uses documentary, bibliographic, exploratory and descriptive methods. The study is divided into three phases: 1) literature review; 2) application of questionnaires and analysis of results; and 3) development and application of the scale. The analysis and application of the scale reveal the presence of microaggressions, which are manifested through subtle practices and verbal and non-verbal messages full of contempt, sexism and racism, perpetuated by white teachers and colleagues in the classroom. The most common microaggressions fall into the categories of Delegitimization/Invalidation and Threat/Intimidation, and forms of oppression intersect with gender, racial, and sexual oppression in the educational experience of black students in higher education. With the scale, racial microaggressions were found to have traumatic consequences and, along with the categories of oppression observed, have a lasting impact on the lives of the Black students observed
Rehabilitación cardíaca en Latinoamérica: una revisión temática y análisis bibliométrico
Introduction: Cardiac rehabilitation has been considered a treatment with a high level of evidence and degree of recommendation to reduce cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. In Latin America, the corpus of scientific knowledge about this treatment is not clear, so the objective of this work is to carry out bibliometric analysis on scientific publications related to cardiac rehabilitation in the Latin American context. Materials and Methods: A delimited search strategy was applied in Scopus for documents indexed until September 2023. The records found were analyzed through the VantagePoint software (Search Technology, 15.2) to obtain indicators of activity (frequency of publication, countries, institutions and authors), relationship (co-authorship between countries and authors), and research trends using keywords included by the authors in each article. Results: 124 records were selected. The highest frequency of publication was between 2019 and 2023. The countries with the highest number of publications were Brazil, Canada and Colombia. In terms of co-authorship relationship, these same countries and the United States published the largest number of studies with international collaboration. Finally, most of the registries related cardiovascular rehabilitation with cardiovascular disease (coronary heart disease), exercise, and questionnaires. Discussion and Conclusions: This paper presents results that help guide future studies taking into account publication trends and potential collaborators in the region
