This article presents the results of an analysis of the research about the Fediverse, Mastodon, Lemmy, Pleroma, and other fediverse platforms, considering 60 documents retrieved. Publications increase in 2022 and 2023, coinciding with Elon Musk's arrival on Twitter and the so-called waves of migration to Mastodon. The main type of document is the conference article, followed by scientific journal articles and preprints. Much of the publications are open access or free and English is the main language. On the other hand, the main topic is the nature of the Fediverse and its values of federation, decentralization, openness, and its horizontal structure based on instances. Other important topics are the analysis of contents and consumption, and activism. Finally, the article focuses on the relationship between the scientific community and the Fediverse, commenting on some cases of unethical treatment and collection of data from the people in the Fediverse, and highlighting and thinking about the relationship between the values of the federated universe and those of open science

This research sought to examine the adoption of social networks by the Communication and Library and Information Sciences (LIS) scientific journals with the greatest impact (Q1) according to the Scimago Journal Rank (SJR). A descriptive methodology was followed with a quantitative approach through a review of the websites and social networks of the journals. The profiles and their activity on platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube were identified, their activity was analysed according to types of publishers in relation to their size and the results between the two areas were compared, revealing their similarities and differences. Among the main contributions, there is evidence of a different behaviour between the two categories studied, with a greater adoption of social media in the Communication area, a clear predominance of the X platform in all cases, and a greater presence in networks of small journals and independent publishers than from major publishers. Among the limitations of this research, we can point to the absence of a content analysis of the publications; this is proposed for future studies

Innovación social con impacto. Definiendo la ruta hacia un mundo sostenible

    Get PDF
In a constantly evolving world, social innovation has emerged as a transformative force beyond traditional technological and business innovations. However, based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations in 2015, it is increasingly important for governments to create a master plan that not only considers the generation of economic wealth but also sustainability, which involves addressing issues such as inequality, environmental degradation, prosperity, climate change, poverty, peace, and justice, among other relevant aspects, all reflected as social impact. This perspective requires a comprehensive understanding of current needs and the approaches and techniques used to assess the social impact generated by social innovations in both public and private projects. Thus, this work aims to show academics, students, entrepreneurs, officials, and the general public the importance of conceptualizing social innovation and its related aspects and present the tools available for measuring it. Special emphasis is placed on Social Return on Investment (SROI) as a clear tool that allows for the measurement of projects not only in terms of economic profitability but also their social relevance

Media libraries and subscription video-on-demand services in Germany: Usage habits and perceived differences from the user’s perspective

    Get PDF
The streaming industry has seen rapid growth worldwide in recent years with intense competition among the major international providers. In Germany, streaming services and pay TV providers achieved a turnover of over five billion euros for the first time in 2022. The number of users subscribing to services such as Netflix, Disney+, and RTL+ has also doubled in the last five years and currently stands at 21.2 million people with one or more subscriptions. In the midst of this competition, this study examines the differences in usage habits, preferences, and user perceptions regarding content offer, user experience, brand perception, and pricing between media libraries and subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) providers in Germany. The study draws on STP theory (segmentation, targeting, positioning) to show how German TV companies can effectively use their resources and differentiate themselves in the competitive market. Based on 1,726 responses from an online survey of German students, empirical significance tests were conducted. These show that SVOD and media library users prefer different program types and that media libraries have a clear need to catch up, especially with regard to personalized recommendations and brand perception
