The identification of ‘feather-like’ fossils in the Palaeozoic: Algae, hydroids, or graptolites?
‘Feather-like’ fossils, showing the construction from a main stem and bearing lateral unbranched stipes, thus reminding of the construction of a bird’s feather, are common in the Palaeozoic fossil record. A review of these ‘feather-like’ fossils, including new specimens from the late Cambrian (Furongian) Guole Biota of Guangxi, South China, the Ordovician Louredo Formation of Portugal, and the Ordovician Castillejo and Barriga Shale formations of Spain, shows that this particular construction can be found in at least three different groups of organisms: Graptolithina (Hemichordata, Pterobranchia), Hydrozoa (Cnidaria), and macroalgae (Rhodophyta, Phaedophyta, Chlorophyta). The Graptolithina can be differentiated from the other groups by the development of the colonial housing construction. Their tubarium is formed through a glandular secretion of fusellar full or half rings, a highly characteristic feature, forming the interconnected thecal tubes for the zooids. The colonial constructions of the Hydrozoa are based on a dermal development, the periderm, and not formed as a regular glandular secretion from a zooid as in the Graptolithina, thus showing an undifferentiated organic wall. Algae do not have any colonial development in the form of separate modules and show smooth outlines. They also lack the more durable recalcitrant outer coating or housing constructions of Hydrozoa and Graptolithina and are more difficult to preserve in the fossil record.

Politeness studies in Spanish have a solid and rich tradition, with important contributions to the theoretical aspects of politeness with specific proposals for the Hispanic cultures as well as to the description of politeness in Spanish varieties, on which the bibliography is abundant (Iglesias Recuero, 2001). Since Blum-Kulka’s (1992) influential study on the metapragmatics of politeness in Israeli Hebrew and Eelin’s (2001) critical view of politeness theoretical models, however, the possibility of studying politeness not only in its linguistic formulations (the so-called second-order politeness) but also in the speakers’ evaluations of politeness (first order politeness) is set forward. This work is part of this trend, where studies in Spanish are scarce. Specifically, the present study aims to investigate the notion of lay politeness (Ogiermann y García-Conejos Blitvich, 2019) in an inter-generational study, that is, how two different generations approach their perceptions and conceptualizations of politeness in everyday life in today’s Spanish society. The study is based on the study of perceptions in young university students (18-21 years) and older university students (65-80 years) and aims to establish the similarities and differences in the way in which speakers perceive the role of politeness in daily life from an intergenerational approach, examining the metalanguage of politeness in such informants, associations and meanings of the terms under analysis.

In the case of Pseudopus apodus, an anguimorph lizard belonging to the Order Squamata, it is particularly important considering the scarce previous works on the morphology of its coelomic cavity. It is interesting to consider that, over the years, using non-invasive approaches in reptiles, such as diagnostic imaging methods, is becoming popular for both scientific and clinical purposes. For the present work, we used a total of five Pseudopus apodus individuals (two males and three females); one male and one female were whole-body examined by multi-detector computed tomography (CT) and then all were dissected following a conventional anatomical protocol. The novelty and the main contribution of our multi-detector CT study is to identify structures that had never been identified before using this technique, such as the opening of the vomeronasal organ and the choanae, the tongue, the glottis, the hyoid bone, the esophagus, the stomach, the small and large intestines, the cloaca, the liver, the gallbladder, the kidneys, the ovarian follicles, the trachea, the bronchial bifurcation, the lungs, the heart, the aortic arches, the aorta, the sinus venosus, and the cranial cava veins. On the contrary, other organs like the thyroid, the pancreas, the spleen, the ureters, the urinary bladder, the oviducts, the testes, the hemipenes, the pulmonary trunk, and the pulmonary arteries were only identified in the anatomical dissection. Thus, our results demonstrate that multi-detector CT scanning is a useful tool to identify a significant number of anatomical structures in Pseudopus apodus, which is important for clinical veterinary practice related to this species or different conservation programs, among other applicationsUniversidad Complutense de MadridDepto. de Medicina y Cirugía AnimalDepto. de Anatomía y EmbriologíaFac. de VeterinariaTRUEpu

Así mismo, están en una etapa formativa con la adquisición de hábitos, actitudes y comportamientos...The chosen topic for this research is the violence in children's television programs, with the aim of analyzing the effects this phenomenon can have on the behavior and attitudes of children in Talavera de la Reina (Toledo). As a starting point, it is considered that the media exerts a significant influence on society, as it is part of the daily life of the vast majority of the population, and this influence is especially relevant when we talk about the most vulnerable audiences, such as children. This work focuses on the study of boys and girls living in the city of Talavera de la Reina (Toledo), aged between 7 and 11 years old. During this initial growth stage, these children are in a crucial phase of human mental development. Moreover, they are in a formative stage where they acquire habits, attitudes, and behaviors...Fac. de Ciencias de la InformaciónTRUEunpu
Morningness–Eveningness Questionnaire: Reliability and factorial structure of the full and reduced versions in Spanish adolescents
This study analyzed the suitability of the Morningness–Eveningness Questionnaire (MEQ) for Spanish adolescents, focusing on reliability, structure, and age/sex invariance. 2,268 adolescents (49.1% girls, aged 12–17) participated. Four MEQ items were unsuitable, leading to a 15-item version (MEQ-15) with good reliability and fit to a bifactor model: general morningness–eveningness factor and awakening time, sleep time, and time of greatest efficiency factors. The reduced MEQ (rMEQ) also fit a one-factor model. Sex and age invariance were tenable for the general factor of MEQ-15 and rMEQ. Morningness declines during adolescence, with boys showing more morningness than girls. Both versions show good psychometric properties.Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovacion (España)Depto. de Psicología Social, del Trabajo y DiferencialFac. de PsicologíaTRUEpu
Porter hypothesis vs. pollution haven hypothesis: can an environmental policy generate a win–win solution?
This paper investigates the effects of environmental policy on firms’ location and green innovation for a two-country, two-firm model. To address this issue, a two-stage game is solved. At the first stage, firms can choose between three actions: to stay in the home country and invest in a green technology; to stay in the home country and produce with the business-as-usual technology; or to move to a pollution haven. At the second stage, the firms compete in quantities while serving the demand in the home country. Despite the model is symmetric, our findings indicate that all market configurations – both symmetric and asymmetric – can be a subgame perfect Nash equilibrium of the game. This includes a “win–win” solution where both firms choose to stay in the home country and invest in green technology confirming the “weak” version of the Porter Hypothesis. Remarkably, this outcome can occur even in seemingly adverse conditions with relatively low setup costs of relocating to a pollution haven. The model predicts that a stricter environmental policy plays in favor of the Porter Hypothesis because the “win–win” solution becomes more likely to arise as an equilibrium of the game. Our analysis examines two policy scenarios – an emission tax and an emission standard – finding that the emission tax can induce firms to stay and invest in green technology under circumstances for which the standard cannot, confirming in this way the “narrow” version of the Porter Hypothesis.
