Onshore and offshore seismotectonics of Iberia: an updated review
An analysis of 542 moment tensor focal mechanisms across the Iberian Peninsula was conducted to infer active tectonic deformation and stress regimes. This study employed a suite of complementary methodologies, including focal mechanism classification (FMC) of the rupture type, composed focal mechanisms based on the average seismic moment tensor, rotation angle between tensor estimates, right dihedra composed focal mechanisms, slip model analysis to determine the strain conditions, and classical stress inversión methodology. Based on the slip model results and considering the tectonic constraints of Cenozoic deformation in Iberia, the study region was subdivided into several tectonically coherent zones, where the different methods were applied independently to ensure robust regional interpretations. The results indicate that thrust faulting stress regimes are active in the Gorringe–Horseshoe (GH) area and the easternmost Tell Atlas. In the south, most of the zones are transpressive, as is the southwestern corner of Iberia, south of Lisbon. The exception is the Granada Basin (GB), which exhibits a nearly radial normal faulting stress regime. Normal faulting stresses are dominant in the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean rim, north of the Betic Mountains. In the central part of the Pyrenees, the maximum horizontal extensión is oriented perpendicular to the mountain range, indicating that local stresses related to post-orogenic collapse or isostatic rebound dominate over regional ones. The máximum horizontal compression along the Eurasia–Africa plate limit is consistently oriented around N154° E, except in some parts of the Betics that are probably influenced by a remnant effect of the Alboran Slab. In the Central Ranges and offshore Atlantic, the maximum horizontal compression is slightly rotated anticlockwise to N140° E.Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades (PID2022-138360NB-I00)Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades (PID2021-124155NB-C31)Comunidad de Madrid. Granite brutes: The Vetton bull of Villanueva del Campillo and the boars of the Amblés Valley (Ávila)
Some general considerations are offered on the study of the famous Vetton boars, granite sculptures of bulls and pigs, from the Late Iron Age in the lands of the Western Spanish Plateau. Then is analyzed the situation of the sculptures in the Amblés Valley (Ávila), the area with the highest concentration of boars in the entire Vetton territory. We next concentrate on the two sculptures found in Villanueva del Campillo, a large bull and a pig. The former is monumental, of great dimensions and the largest sculpture in Celtic Europe. The context of the discovery, the characteristics of the huge bull and its possible interpretations and meaning are analyzed. Prioritizing the idea of quality pasture markers by the Vetton elites. It also reflects on the story of the sculptures’ transfer from their original location to the nearby village square.Ministerio de Ciencia e InnovaciónUniversidad de SalamancaDepto. de Prehistoria, Historia Antigua y ArqueologíaFac. de Geografía e HistoriaTRUEpu

However, a subset of infected animals fails to mount a detectable CMI response, posing a significant risk of undetected transmission. Serological tests assessing the humoral immune response could provide a valuable complementary tool for identifying infected animals that escape detection through traditional CMI-based assays.
Methods: This study analyzed 895 serum samples from water buffaloes, including 393 from TB-free herds and 502 from TB-infected herds. Animals from TB-free herds were tested using IDT and an ELISA assay, whereas those from infected herds were also tested using IGRA. We developed an ELISA assay targeting MPB70, MPB83, ESAT6, CFP10, PPDB, and P22 antigens to investigate the role of the humoral response in TB diagnosis.
Results and discussion: The ELISA showed a specificity of 98.2%. However, sensitivity differed based on the antigen used: among the most reactive proteins, sensitivity was 67.5% for MPB70, 69.8% for P22, and 74.4% for PPDB. Moreover, approximately 70% of samples with discordant IDT and IGRA results, as well as those with positive IDT but inconclusive IGRA results, tested positive by serology, highlighting the potential of antibody-based detection to improve TB diagnosis in buffaloes. Our findings suggest that integrating serological testing with standard diagnostic methods could enhance the detection of infected animals, ultimately contributing to better TB control in buffalo populations.European CommissionItalian Ministry of HealthDepto. de Sanidad AnimalCentro de Vigilancia Sanitaria Veterinaria (VISAVET)TRUEpu
Impact of a Bioadhesive Oral Wound Dressing Combined With Flowable Resin on Patient-Reported Outcomes After Palatal Graft Harvesting: A Randomized Clinical Trial
Objective: To evaluate the effect of a cellulose-based oral wound dressing (OWD) stabilized with flowable resin (FR), in combination with hemostatic sponges, on patient-reported outcomes (PROMs) after palatal graft harvesting.
Materials and methods: This randomized clinical trial included patients requiring soft tissue augmentation with dental implants. Participants were allocated to three groups: OWD and FR (OWDFR), cyanoacrylate (CY), or palatal plate (PP). The primary outcome was postoperative pain, assessed with a 10-cm visual analog scale (VAS) over 14 days. Secondary outcomes were analgesic consumption, oral health-related quality of life (OHIP-14), postoperative bleeding, and willingness to repeat the procedure.
Results: Sixty-one patients were enrolled. The OWDFR group reported lower VAS values on Days 1, 2, 3, and 7 compared with CY and PP (p < 0.05). On Day 2, VAS scores were significantly lower in OWDFR, with mean differences of -1.94 versus CY and -2.12 versus PP (p < 0.01). Analgesic intake differed significantly on Days 3 and 5; on Day 3, OWDFR consumed -0.89 tablets compared to PP and CY consumed -0.95 tablets compared to PP (both p < 0.05). OHIP-14 scores were similar across groups, but OWDFR patients reported greater early postoperative comfort. No bleeding or adverse events occurred. All OWDFR patients were willing to repeat the procedure, compared with 90% in CY and 85% in PP.
Conclusions: The combination of a bioadhesive OWD with FR appears to be a safe and minimally invasive method for protecting palatal donor sites. It reduces postoperative pain and analgesic use while enhancing comfort, supporting its incorporation into routine clinical protocols.

«Tendrán la Regla a la letra». Religious observance and royal patronage in late medieval Spain
In the late Middle Ages, the observant reform had important consequences for the identity and spirituality of the religious orders, which tried to recover the splendour of past times by (re)constructing and (re)creating the past. In Spain, this profound reform process was supported by the monarchy, which sought to link its main political strategies to the emerging observant spirituality, often influenced by their own confessors. The paper aims to analyse this complex scenario from three different angles: the Trastamara dynasty’s support for the eremitical spirit of certain reformist initiatives, the conception of the Observant movement as a royal commemorative strategy, and the close relationship between royal patronage, observance, and female virtue.Depto. de Historia del ArteFac. de Geografía e HistoriaTRUEpu
