Evaluation of the accuracy of coded healing abutments, scan body, and conventional impressions on implants with different angulations
Purpose: To evaluate the effect of implant angulation on the accuracy (trueness and precision) of analog (ANA) and digital impressions using coded healing abutment (CHA) and scan body (SB), in implant-supported fixed partial dentures (ISFPDs).
Methods: Two mandibular models with internal connection implants were fabricated: one with parallel implants (M1) and another with angulated implants (M2). Three impression techniques were tested: CHA, SB, and conventional open-tray (ANA) (n=10 each). Digital impressions were acquired with an intraoral scanner, whereas conventional impressions were made with splinted open-tray copings and polyvinylsiloxane, then digitized with a laboratory scanner. STL files were imported into CAD software and analyzed with metrological software (Geomagic) to assess accuracy by comparison with coordinate measuring machine (CMM) reference data. Data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance with Tukey’s HSD post hoc test, t-tests and Levene´s test.
Results: SB impressions showed the highest trueness for linear distance and implant positions. No differences were observed between CHA and SB for angulated implants. ANA exhibited greater deviations across most parameters. For precision, SB and CHA outperformed ANA, particularly in M2. Implant angulation reduced ANA accuracy but did not affect digital impressions.
Conclusions: Scan bodies provided the highest accuracy, especially in parallel implants. Coded healing abutments demonstrated acceptable accuracy across all variables and comparable performance to scan bodies in angulated implants, representing a viable alternative for digital impressions in ISFPDs.Depto. de Odontología Conservadora y PrótesisFac. de OdontologíaFALSEsubmitte
Navigating uncertainty: professional trajectories and recognition boundaries in integrative medicine in Spain.
Integrative medicine should be understood not as an isolated entity but as a boundary field —a contested space where medical legitimacy, scientific authority, and professional jurisdiction are continuously negotiated. The Spanish case illustrates how regulation functions not merely as a technical or legal instrument but as a mechanism that structures professional practice while also defining what constitutes legitimate medical knowledge. In the absence of formal recognition, integrative medicine practitioners in Spain operate in a contested space where legal ambiguity, institutional constraints, and economic pressures shape their professional trajectories. Drawing on in-depth interviews with Spanish medical professionals engaged in integrative practices, this article explores how these practitioners navigate this terrain and makes two main contributions. First, at the empirical level, it provides one of the first in-depth qualitative analyses of the professional trajectories of integrative medicine practitioners in Spain, a context where CAM remains legally unregulated and politically contested. Second, at the theoretical level, it introduces the concept of “recognition boundaries” to capture how legitimacy is not only a matter of institutional inclusion but also of symbolic and cultural validation. By building on boundary theory and Lamont’s work on recognition, we argue that recognition boundaries operate as dynamic, contested markers that shape what is considered acceptable within medical institutions—and who is authorized to speak and act as a legitimate professional. This concept may be applicable to other health systems where professionals operate in liminal spaces, negotiating belonging in the absence of institutional support.Agencia Estatal de InvestigaciónDepto. de Antropología Social y Psicología SocialFac. de Ciencias Políticas y SociologíaTRUEpu

This study presents the first documented cases of BSA in seven dogs, offering new insights into how the disorder manifests in animals. The affected fetuses consistently exhibited major anomalies, including large abdominal wall defects, structural spinal abnormalities, and a variety of limb malformations ranging from partial agenesis and meromelia to phocomelia and complete amelia. Structural urogenital anomalies and orofacial clefts were also observed, aligning with similar findings in BSA cases reported in pigs and cats. These findings support the hypothesis of a multifactorial etiology involving early embryonic disruptions, such as abnormal folding of the embryo, rupture of the amniotic membrane, and vascular compromise. The frequent occurrence of abdominal wall defects alongside umbilical cord abnormalities further suggests a shared developmental pathway. This study also highlights the value of veterinary cases in comparative embryology and the need to assess congenital anomalies as part of a broader malformation complex. By expanding the phenotypic spectrum of BSA in domestic animals, this work contributes to a deeper understanding of its pathogenesis and emphasizes the importance of further research into the genetic and environmental factors involved. Such efforts could lead to improved classification and diagnosis of complex congenital malformations, as well as facilitate cross-species comparisons.

Nervos belli or economic resources as determinants of terrorist activity: the case of ETA (1967–2010)
The article studies empirically the relationship of a set of resources—among which we highlight, for its novelty the financial ones—, as determinants of the number and intensity of attacks carried out by terrorist groups, through the analysis of the Basque terrorist group ETA, from 1967 up to its dissolution in 2010. For this purpose, a series of the resources available to this terrorist organization is compiled (economic resources of ETA, the number of active ETA militants, etc.) which are then related econometrically to various indicators referring to the results of its armed activity (number and types of attacks carried out by ETA, the number of victims derived from them, and the number of terrorist casualties in armed actions, etc.). Our results prove that Cicero’s dictum of “money being the nerve of war” holds also true in the case of terrorism.Depto. de Economía Aplicada, Estructura e HistoriaFac. de Ciencias Económicas y EmpresarialesTRUEpu
