Bat-Zabbai, como realmente se la conocía, no estaba dispuesta a obedecer. Se autoproclamó emperatriz y lideró sus tropas para deshacerse del yugo que oprimía a su gente, convirtiéndose en una de las figuras más fascinantes de la historia. Sus hazañas se hicieron leyenda, inspirando poemas, óperas y obras de teatro a lo largo de generaciones. No en vano, durante los terribles acontecimientos vividos en la historia reciente de Siria, los restos de la esplendorosa Palmira fueron objetivo prioritario para los terroristas, decididos a borrar su recuerdo. Sin embargo, hace falta mucho más para condenarla al olvido. Role of N-glycosylation of surfactant protein SP-BN in lipid and SP-B interacting properties. Implications in disease
No full textThis work has been funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation Grant PID2021-124932OB-I00 and the Regional Government of Madrid Grant P2018/NMT4389.SP-BN is an independent protein derived from the precursor of pulmonary surfactant protein B (SP-B), a critical component of the pulmonary surfactant (PS), the membrane-based system that coats the alveolar air-liquid interface and is essential for both respiratory mechanics and innate defense. In humans, a single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) defining hSP-BN glycosylation has been associated with propensity to certain respiratory diseases, but molecular studies in this regard are scarce. Previous studies with the murine SP-BN, nonglycosylated, have suggested a role for this protein in lipid transfer during PS biogenesis. This study focuses on the structural and functional characterization of both glycosylated and nonglycosylated human SP-BN protein variants to elucidate the impact of N-glycosylation. Recombinant proteins (hSP-BN, glycosylated, and hSP-BN-T73I, nonglycosylated) were produced in Pichia pastoris and purified to homogeneity. The structural characterization confirmed the main features of hSP-BN as a member of the SAPLIP protein family: mainly α-helical, a propensity to dimerization and a high stability. Interestingly, N-glycosylation did not significantly affect hSP-BN structure. Regarding lipid interactions, both hSP-BN variants were able to bind and perturb membranes in lipid vesicles with a PS-like composition at acidic, but not neutral pH, which is relevant given the acidification during PS biogenesis. Remarkably, N-glycosylation impaired the synergistic effect of hSP-BN and mature SP-B to promote lipid mixing/transfer activity. These results support the joint action of both proteins in PS biogenesis and, more importantly, suggest that this combined activity affected with the SNP-induced glycosylation of hSP-BN could be behind certain PS defects acquired during biogenesis causing some susceptibility to respiratory diseases.
NEW & NOTEWORTHY The impact of N-glycosylation on the structure and function of human SP-BN protein has been studied. Homogeneous production of glycosylated hSP-BN and nonglycosylated hSP-BN-T73I was achieved in Pichia pastoris. Structural characterization and lipid interaction properties at acidic pH revealed no significant differences due to glycosylation. N-glycosylation impairs the synergistic action of hSP-BN and SP-B in lipid transfer/mixing activity. Cooperación y coordinación intergubernamental en la gestión de emergencias: el caso de la DANA en España
No full textEl objeto de estudio del presente trabajo es analizar los mecanismos de cooperación y coordinación entre los distintos niveles de gobierno en España —nacional, autonómico y local— en el ámbito de la gestión de emergencias, tomando como caso de estudio la respuesta institucional a la DANA (Depresión Aislada en Niveles Altos) que afectó al país en 2024. Este fenómeno meteorológico afectó gravemente al sureste del país, generando intensas lluvias e inundaciones que pusieron a prueba la capacidad de respuesta de las administraciones públicas (Ministerio del Interior, 2025). El análisis resulta relevante dada la creciente frecuencia e intensidad de las emergencias climáticas, que exigen una respuesta eficaz y bien coordinada entre los distintos niveles de gobierno. Estudiar la actuación institucional ante la DANA permite identificar aciertos y fallos en la gestión, así como extraer lecciones útiles para afrontar futuras crisis. El orden de los adjetivos en inglés: adaptación de la metodología del rompecabezas en educación primaria
No full textThe present study examines the positive effects, both quantitative and qualitative, of using the jigsaw methodology applied to learning English as a foreign language among first and second-grade primary education students. This language learning methodology, whose effectiveness has already been tested on secondary education students learning Latin, German, and Spanish, promotes the acquisition of linguistic patterns that help understand, at a basic level, the prototypical behavior of verbal and nominal complementation at syntactic, morphological, and semantic levels. In this research, the methodology has been modified to explain the order of adjectives that complement a noun in.
English when the semantic content of one adjective is more objective than the other (e.g., green vs. dark). For the research, two control groups and one experimental group, composed of 42 students respectively, were used, with a quantitative pretest and post-test applied to them.

Analysis of the priming effect of machine translation on Spanish texts in institutional contexts

Este artículo presenta un análisis del efecto de imprimación de la traducción automática en los textos institucionales de la Unión Europea traducidos al español. Se abordan dos preguntas clave: a) ¿es posible identificar alguna variación lingüística en los textos traducidos automáticamente coincidiendo temporalmente con los diferentes desarrollos de la tecnología de traducción automática?; b) si existen variaciones ¿hasta qué punto pueden deberse al efecto de imprimación de la traducción automática? Se trata de un estudio cuantitativo sobre cuatro aspectos: la diversidad léxica, la densidad léxica, el índice de la longitud del corpus («lenght ratio») y los patrones léxicos. Los resultados muestran ciertos indicios de imprimación de la traducción automática, aunque, como se indica en la conclusión, los datos no son concluyentes. Sería necesario complementarlos con un análisis cualitativo que examine casos individuales en contexto y que explore las variaciones lingüísticas que no se reflejan en los datos cuantitativosABSTRACT:
This article presents an analysis of the priming effect of machine translation on institutional texts from the European Union translated into Spanish. Two key questions are addressed: a) Is it possible to identify any linguistic variation in machine-translated texts that temporally coincides with the different developments in machine translation technology?; b) If variations exist, to what extent can they be attributed to the priming effect of machine translation? This article presents a quantitative study focusing on four aspects: lexical diversity, lexical density, corpus length ratio, andlexical patterns. The results show some evidence of a machine translation priming effect. However, as indicated in the conclusion, the results are not conclusive. It would be necessary to complement them by exploring the corpus from a qualitative perspective, in order to examine individual cases in context, and analyze linguistic variations not reflected

Management and feeding are important factors affecting the performance of replacing gilts. Specifically, an optimal redox status has been linked to better fertility. Current research highlights the importance of neonatal criteria and age at puberty as factors in the gilt selection. Maternal antioxidant supplementation has benefits on the litter's performance, but there is scarce data on its effect on the future breeder. The aim of the study is to evaluate the effects of maternal supplementation with vitamin E (VE) and/or hydroxytyrosol (HXT) on prepuberal ovarian characteristics in Iberian pig offspring. Fifty Iberian sows were supplemented from day 85 of gestation until weaning with 30 or 100 mg/kg VE and 0 or 1.5 mg/kg HXT, resulting in four groups: VE30HXT0, VE100HXT0, VE30HXT1.5, VE100HXT1.5. At 110 d-old, 10 to 12 daughters were selected from each group to study weight, redox status and ovary histological measures and differences of selected gene expression patterns. Results showed that gilts with high VE had higher superoxide dismutase activity and malondialdehyde levels (P < 0.05 for both). Furthermore, total and oxidized glutathione showed a VE*HXT interaction, with VE100 gilts having the lowest activity values. These results imply a higher oxidative status with high VE supplementation. However, VE100 gilts also showed larger ovarian surfaces (P < 0.05 for planes 1, 6 and 10) and a lower proportion of small follicles (P < 0.05), which could mean a more proximal state to puberty of VE100 gilts. Furthermore, HXT effects on the ovarian surfaces and ovarian gene expression patterns were modulated by maternal parity. Thus, in gilts from primiparous mothers supplemented with HXT, plane 6 and plane 10 ovarian surfaces were smaller, and the expression of certain genes ( and ) were lower than those from primiparous sows without supplementation (P < 0.05 for all the interactions). No full textCon motivo del 8M de 2025, en la Biblioteca de Medicina se propuso la realización de un fanzine colectivo con recopilación de artículos, libros y biografías de mujeres con el trasfondo de la Igualdad de Género en la Medicina.
De esta actividad surgió un taller de fanzines elaborado conjuntamente entre las Bibliotecas de Medicina y la de Enfermería, Fisioterapia y Podología, con la intención de aprender a realizar nuestras propias publicaciones.
Este fanzine es el resultado de estas dos actividades y tiene como objetivo poner sobre la mesa la desigualdad que han sufrido y siguen sufriendo las mujeres en todo lo relacionado con las ciencias de la salud, además de poner el acento en las múltiples formas creativas de hacer divulgación científica.BibliotecaFac. de Medicinapu

As a folk horror film, The Vampires Night Orgy (La orgía nocturna de los vampiros, León Klimovsky, 1973) uses the isolated village of Tolnia as a metaphorical representation of Franco’s dictatorship in the form of a hierarchy of vampires that eradicate any human being who enters their realm. In this way, this film evokes the rural exodus, the stereotyping of the rural Spaniard, and the changes to gender roles that were central to the transformations occurring in Spain in the 1970s. Impact of a strategic time management programme on burnout, anxiety, depression, and emotional regulation in university students
No full textTime management is related to academic success and reduces stress if it is developed effectively. However,in the university context, there are few or no time management programmes in training. This study aims to analyse the impact of a Strategic Time Management Programme (STMP) on variables associated with academic stress in university students (burnout, anxiety, depression, emotional regulation skills). A longitudinal study was carried out in which 164 university students participated. The Strategic Time Management Programme comprising eight activities was applied. The results indicated that those students to whom the programme was applied felt more effective and presented less anxiety and better emotional regulation skills than students in the control group.
