Using of zeolite for copper and zinc removal under acidic conditions
No full textThe adsorption properties of natural zeolite (clinoptilolite) has been studied in order to determine its applicability for copper and zinc removal in acid mine drainage treatment process. For purpose of these experiments the determination of the sorption equilibrium and removal efficiencies were performed under batch conditions using single and dual-component solutions. The experiments were carried out under acidic conditions (pH approx. 4). In general, the obtained results from kinetic experiments showed rapid decrease of the metal concentration during the first 10 min, corresponding to ~80% total removal of ions from both single and dualcomponent solutions. This initial rapid period was followed by a further slow drop in metals concentration caused by ion-exchange in deeper structure of zeolite.Preliminary tests on the real samples of acid mine drainage from Smolnik mine, Slovakia, showed that natural zeolite has a potential as an alternative low cost adsorptive material for acid mine drainage treatment
Stability assessment of a failed artificial embankment slope
No full textThis paper presents the stability problems of an artificial cohesion-less embankment slope supported on a saturated silty clay layer.In June 2011, an embankment about 9.00 m high started to be constructed in the Energetic Park of Porto Romano, in Durres city, Albania, as part of Preloading to Mitigate Seismic Risk project. The embankment, foreseen to be built in a conic trunk shape form, was to be used as a preload during the consolidation process of the site.Eighteen days after starting the construction process, when the embankment reached the height of 6.35 m, a soil stability failure of the embankment occurred. The calculations include the embankment slope stability analysis, during the design phase, considering the total height of the embankment (9.00 m) and at the moment of failure when the embankment height reached 6.35 m. The paper also presents the results of a back calculation of shear strength parameters at the moment of failure. Probability Based Design Method and Eurocode 7 Design Approaches are used during the analysis, considering long-term (drained) and short-term (undrained) conditions of the silty clay foundation

in the nervous system as well as in the peripheral organs. Beneficial action of PACAP has been shown in
different pathological processes. The strong protective effects of the peptide are probably due to its complex
modulatory actions in antiapoptotic, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant pathways. In the kidney,
PACAP is protective in models of diabetic nephropathy, myeloma kidney injury, cisplatin-, gentamycinand
cyclosporin-induced damages. Numerous studies have been published describing the protective effect
of this peptide in renal ischemia/reperfusion. The present review focuses on the ischemia/reperfusioninduced
kidney injury and gives a brief summary about the results published in this area
New sources of antitrinitarian philosophy: Speeches of Ernst Soner
No full textThe article presents and describes a manuscript volume which contains some unknown speeches of the famous antitrinitarian thinker, Ernst Soner. Beside the data of the book and the short description of the speeches, the first one is discussed in detail, which is about libertas philosophandi, and emphasizes the importance of criticism and detachment, prefiguring rational thinking. The work is a new proof for the thesis that the rediscovered ancient scepticism was not the only source of early modern rationalism
R&D-based integration and upgrading in Hungary
No full textThe Hungarian economy is highly integrated in global value chains (GVC). Upgrading within GVCs is a key factor of sustaining the initial developmental push GVC participation provides. The article concentrates on R&D-based upgrading opportunities and their practical implementation by multinationals’ Hungarian subsidiaries in the automotive and electronics sectors. The content and the development of R&D activities; Hungary’s locational advantages for R&D projects, and their local impact are analysed based on interviews with twenty foreign-owned companies in the two selected sectors. We show that local R&D units’ activity is multifaceted, though they feature similar upgrading trajectories. Investors’ motivations: the knowledge- and efficiency-seeking nature of their projects and the related locational advantages are examined. We demonstrate that local R&D-intensive subsidiaries have a limited local impact except for the intensive contacts with local universities — with varying content and motives on the side of the R&D units. Drawing on our findings we formulate economic policy recommendations about the ways to foster and enhance R&D-based upgrading
Exploring correlations among tourism characteristics, visitor behavior intention, and customer satisfaction
No full textIn the process of getting into the 21st century, Taiwan left behind the agriculture-based economic system and changed it for high-density and elaboration industries. With progressing societies and economic development, tourism, leisure and recreational industries have boomed. Moreover, the implementation of two-day weekend policy has increased the leisure time and the frequency of tourism and recreation activities. The correlations between Tourism Characteristics, Visitor Behavior Intention, and Customer Satisfaction are therefore discussed in this study. Focussing on Xitou Nature Education Area, the customers were distributed 250 copies of questionnaires. A total of 182 valid copies were retrieved, with the retrieval rate of 73%. The research results show significant correlations between 1. Tourism Characteristics and Customer Satisfaction, 2. Customer Satisfaction and Behavior Intention, and 3. Tourism Characteristics and Behavior Intention. The research results are expected to provide assistance and suggestions for tourism industries developing industrial characteristics
A tocharian B parallel to the legend of kalmāṣapāda and sutasoma of the old uyghur daśakarmapathāvadānamālā
No full textAccording to the colophons of the Old Uyghur Daśakarmapathāvadānamālā (DKPAM), this collection of Buddhist birth legends was translated from a Tocharian A (tohrı) source which in turn was based on a Tocharian B (küsän) original. A Tocharian B fragment from the Paris Pelliot collection presents a close parallel to the legend of Kalmāṣapāda and Sutasoma of the Old Uyghur DKPAM. This legend is so far not attested in Tocharian A. Although the existence of a Tocharian A intermediary text cannot be excluded, the parallel is so close that the Old Uyghur text may also have been translated directly from Tocharian B
