La Ricerca su Grid di prossima generazione

    No full text

DRedSOP: Synthesis of a new class of regular functions

    No full text
In this paper we characterize and study a new class of regular Boolean functions called D-reducible.A D-reducible function, depending on all its nn input variables, can be studied and synthesized in a space of dimension strictly smaller than nn. A D-reducible function can be efficiently decomposed, giving rise to a new logic form, that we have called DRedSOP. This form is shown here to be generally smaller than the corresponding minimum SOP form. Experimental evidence shows that such functions are rather common and D-reducibility can be tested very quickly

Chiral transition and deconfinement in QCD

    No full text
The study of QCD with two light dynamical fermions is of fundamental importance to understand the mechanism of color confinement. We present results of a numerical investigation on the order of the chiral phase transition with Nf=2N_f = 2 by use of a novel strategy in finite size scaling analysis. We compare the critical behaviour of the specific heat, of the chiral susceptibility and of the equation of state with the possible critical behaviours. A second order transition in the O(4) and O(2) universality classes are excluded by our data and substantial evidence emerges for a first order transition. Like in most of previous works we have used the standard staggered action with Lt=4L_t = 4: possible scaling violations and the need for further studies are discussed

    Dual Superconductivity in G2 group

    No full text
We investigate the dual superconductivity mechanism in the exceptional group G2G_2. This is a centerless group (no 't Hooft flux vortices are allowed) and we check for the presence of a magnetic monopole condensate in the confined phase by measuring on the lattice a disorder parameter related to the vacuum expectation value of an operator carrying magnetic charge. The behaviour of the disorder parameter is consistent with the dual superconductor picture. A first step of an analysis on the thermodynamical properties of the theory is conducted by mean of this operator

Fixed point stability and decay of correlations

    No full text
In the framework of the renormalization-group theory of critical phenomena, a quantitative description of many continuous phase transitions can be obtained by considering an effective Φ4\Phi^4 theories, having an N-component fundamental field Φi\Phi_i and containing up to fourth-order powers of the field components. Their renormalization-group flow is usually characterized by several fixed points. We give here strong arguments in favour of the following conjecture: the stable fixed point corresponds to the fastest decay of correlations, that is, is the one with the largest values of the critical exponent η\eta describing the power-law decay of the two-point function at criticality. We prove this conjecture in the framework of the ϵ\epsilon-expansion. Then, we discuss its validity beyond the ϵ\epsilon-expansion. We present several lower-dimensional cases, mostly three-dimensional, which support the conjecture. We have been unable to find a counterexample

These notes of molecular biology are designed to introduce students to the knowledge of DNA technologies, in order to better understand the magnitude of the scientific results obtained in the study of human genes and to integrate their knowledge of genetic and biochemical basis with those of modern genomics

Corrections to scaling in multicomponent polymer solutions

    No full text
We calculate the correction-to-scaling exponent ωT\omega_T that characterizes the approach to the scaling limit in multicomponent polymer solutions. A direct Monte Carlo determination of ωT\omega_T in a system of interacting self-avoiding walks gives ωT=0.415(20)\omega_T = 0.415(20). A field-theory analysis based on five- and six-loop perturbative series leads to ωT=0.41(4)\omega_T = 0.41(4). We also verify the renormalization-group predictions for the scaling behavior close to the ideal-mixing point
