lattice and study its behavior close to the multicritical Nishimori point where
the paramagnetic-ferromagnetic, the paramagnetic-glassy, and the
ferromagnetic-glassy transition lines meet in the T-p phase diagram (p
characterizes the disorder distribution and gives the fraction of ferromagnetic
bonds). For this purpose we perform Monte Carlo simulations on cubic lattices
of size and a finite-size scaling analysis of the numerical results.

Feature-wise Competitive Repetition Suppression Learning for Gene Data Clustering and Feature Ranking
No full textThe paper extends Competitive Repetition-suppression (CoRe) learning to deal with high dimensional data clustering. We show how CoRe can be applied to the automatic detection of the unknown cluster number and the simultaneous ranking of the features according to learned relevance factors. The effectiveness of the approach is tested on two freely available data sets from gene expression data and the results show that CoRe clustering is able to discover the true data partitioning in a completely unsupervised way, while it develops a feature ranking that is consistent with the state-of-the-art lists of gene relevance
Discrimination-aware data mining
No full textIn the context of civil rights law, discrimination refers to unfair or unequal treatment of people based on membership to a category or a minority, without regard to individual merit. Rules extracted from databases by data mining techniques, such as classification or association rules, when used for decision tasks such as benefit or credit approval, can be discriminatory, in the above sense. This deficiency of classification and association rules poses ethical and legal issues, as well as obstacles to practical application. In this paper, the notion of discriminatory classification rules is introduced and studied. Examples of potentially discriminatory attributes include gender, race, job, and age. A measure, termed -protection, of the discrimination power of a classification rule containing a discriminatory item is defined and its properties studied. We show that the introduced notion is non-trivial, in the sense that discriminatory rules can be derived from apparently safe ones under natural assumptions about background knowledge. Finally, we discuss how to check -protection and provide an empirical assessment on the German credit dataset
Monitoraggio della popolazione di mufloni (Ovis orientalis musimon) sulla Pania di Corfino: indagine preliminare
No full textRIASSUNTO Le introduzioni del muflone (Ovis orientalis musimon) hanno avuto particolare successo anche in aree diverse dall’habitat tipico della specie, ed in particolare nella R.N. Orecchiella, all’interno del P.N. Appennino Tosco-Emiliano, zona nella quale la popolazione di mufloni si è gradatamente adattata ed ampliata. Lo scopo del lavoro è stato quello di valutare l’avvistabilità, la dimensione dei gruppi e l’utilizzo del territorio, da parte della suddetta popolazione, in due diverse stagioni dell’anno, una autunnale (da Ottobre agli inizi di Dicembre) ed una primaverile (da Marzo alla metà di Aprile). L’analisi dei risultati degli avvistamenti, tramite il calcolo di appostiti rapporti tesi ad evidenziare la struttura di popolazione, ne conferma la stabilità strutturale e numerica, probabilmente dovuta anche al fatto che, all’interno del Parco non è possibile la caccia e che esiste un unico nucleo stabile di Canis lupus, costituito soltanto da 4-5 esemplari, che può svolgere una limitata azione di predazione. Si sono inoltre evidenziate variazioni comportamentali in relazione alla diversa stagione di osservazione (fase preriproduttiva e post-riproduttiva) sia per quanto riguarda la dimensione dei gruppi che l’uso del territorio e che possono essere messe in relazione al comportamento antipredatorio legato, nel secondo periodo di osservazione, alla presenza dei piccoli. I dati ottenuti nella presente prova possono rappresentare un termine di paragone per verificare le tendenze evolutive di altre popolazioni di mufloni in aree simili. SUMMARY The introduction of mouflon (Ovis orientalis musimon) reached a great success even in habitat different from those typical of this animal species and, in particularly, in the Orecchiella N.R., located inside the Appennino Tosco-Emiliano N.P.; in this area, mouflon popultaion is gradually numerically increased and adapted. The aim of this trial was to evaluate the sighting, the group dimension and the territorial use from this popoluation in two different stagional seasons, autumn (from October to the first days of December) and spring (from March to the first middle of April). The sighting results, through the calculation of some ratio aimed to highlight the population structure, confirm the structural and numerical stability of the population, probably due to the fact that hunting is forbidden inside the Park and that there are only 4-5 subjects of Canis lupus and a consequent limited predatory action. Moreover, some behavioural variations, related to the different season of observation (pre- and post-reproductive phases), are noted both for the group dimension and for the territorial use: this is probably due to the antipredatory behaviour related to the newborn presence. The data obtained may represent an example to verify the evolutionary trend in other mouflon popoluation living in similar areas

No full textRIASSUNTO La città storica è un manoscritto difficile da leggere perché le cattive condizioni di conservazione spesso hanno cancellato tracce importanti per la sua comprensione. Ma la città di Akko, in Israele, non fa parte di questo caso. Akko è un’autentica realtà di esperienze urbane che si sono sovrapposte e che portano la firma di tanti popoli che l’hanno frequentata e l’hanno trasformata. Questa ricchezza culturale ha fatto si che il centro storico di Akko è stato incluso dall’UNESCO fra i siti definiti “patrimonio mondiale dell’ umanità”. Dal 1990 sono stati avviati importanti lavori archeologici e di conservazione delle antiche strutture monumentali. I lavori, tutt’oggi, si svolgono sotto l’egida della Old Acre Development Company of Akko. SUMMARY The historical city is a manuscript difficult to read because the bad conditions of the preservation often cancel important traces for its understanding. The city of Akko, in Israel, is a different case. Akko is an authentic whole of city experiences. In fact, people that followed one after the other left their signatures and their transformations. This cultural richness made the historical center of Akko one of the historical site included in the Unesco “world-wide patrimony of the humanity”. From 1990 important archaeological jobs and the preservation of ancient monumental structures have started. Today these jobs are carried out under the control of the Old Acre Development Company of Akko

No full textRIASSUNTO Da una disamina delle disposizioni legislative nazionali, come il Codice della Strada, dei regolamenti emanati dalle province per i trasporti extraurbani e dai comuni per i trasporti urbani o di quelli in vigore nelle compagnie aeree o di navigazione si conclude che, pur con alcune limitazioni, i nostri animali possono accompagnare il proprietario su qualsiasi mezzo di trasporto. Le regole che attualmente devono essere rispettate si possono riassumere sinteticamente come segue: - in auto, un cane o un gatto, di qualsiasi taglia, possono viaggiare sul sedile posteriore dell’auto, purché non costituiscano “impedimento o pericolo per la guida”; - in bicicletta ed in motocicletta, è necessario trasportare gli animali in appositi contenitori solidamente assicurati che non sporgano lateralmente o longitudinalmente oltre i cinquanta centimetri; - su autobus urbani ed extraurbani, metro e tram, i cani sono ammessi purché con museruola e guinzaglio; i piccoli animali domestici di altre specie devono essere chiusi in ceste od altri imballaggi sicuri; i cani guida per non vedenti viaggiano gratis; - sui taxi, possono viaggiare animali di piccola taglia; cani di grossa taglia possono essere rifiutati; - in treno, cani, gatti ed altri animali domestici come pesci rossi o canarini possono viaggiare gratis, nello scompartimento del loro proprietario, se sono racchiusi in contenitori di dimensioni non superiori a 70x50x30 cm; - in nave, è consentito il passaggio sul ponte o in spazi appositi, ed è vietato l’accesso in cabina; i cani devono essere muniti di guinzaglio e di museruola ed i gatti viaggiano in ceste o gabbiette; - in aereo, gli animali viaggiano nel bagagliaio; su richiesta del passeggero possono essere accettati come bagaglio a mano, in gabbia o contenitore, solo su prenotazione e pagamento di supplemento per eccedenza bagagli. SUMMARY In Italy pets can accompany the owner on whichever means of transport, even if with the some limitations. From the examination of Italian legislative dispositions like the Italian Rule of the Road, the rules of the Districts for the extracity transports, the rules of the Municipalities for the city transports, the rules of the airlines, and the rules of the navigation companies, the rules that the owner must respect can reassume synthetically like follow: - In car, a dog or a cat, of whichever size, can travel on the rear seat of the car, provided that they do not constitute “impediment or danger for the driver”. - In bicycle and motorcycle, it is necessary to transport the animals in suited containers solidly fixed to the mean. The containers must not lean laterally or longitudinally beyond fifty centimetres. - On city and extracity buses, undergrounds and trams, the dogs are admitted if provided with muzzle and leash. Small domestic animals, bearing to other species, must be closed in transport cages or other suited packings. The guide dogs for blind people travel without any charge. - On the taxis, animals of small size can travel; dogs of large size can be refused; - In train, dogs, domestic cats and other animals as red fish or canaries can travel gratis within their owner, if they are closed in transport cages less than cm 70x50x30. - In ship the passage on the bridge or in fitted spaces is allowed. The access to the cabins is prohibited. The dogs must wear leash and muzzle. The cats must travel in suited transport cages. - In airplane, the animals must travel in the baggage area. Upon request of the passenger they can be accepted in the cabin like hand baggage, if closed in suited cages or containers but only on reservation and after payment of supplement
Stress ossidativo e tempi di recupero nel cane da caccia
No full textRIASSUNTO Una sovrapproduzione di radicali liberi, in particolare delle specie reattive dell’ossigeno (ROS), che non viene efficacemente contrastata dalla barriera antiossidante plasmatica, durante l’esercizio fisico aerobio, determina uno stress ossidativo nell’organismo. Lo scopo di questo studio è stato quello di verificare la possibilità di utilizzare i test fotometrici d-ROMs (derivati dei metaboliti reattivi dell’ossigeno) e BAP (potenziale antiossidante biologico) (Diacron, Grosseto, It) per monitorare i tempi di recupero in cani da caccia allenati dopo un’attività fisica aerobica. Due gruppi di cani, rispettivamente 9 pointer e 9 bracchi, sono stati monitorati, con d-ROMs e BAP test, nello svolgimento di una prova di caccia pratica, con prelievi di sangue svolti ad intervalli regolari durante la fase di caccia e nella settimana di riposo successiva. I dati ottenuti per entrambi i parametri indagati, raggruppati per momento di campionamento, sono stati analizzati, tramite l’ANOVA e il test tukey-Kramer per evidenziare le eventuali differenze significative tra i gruppi per p<0.05. I risultati ottenuti hanno evidenziato uno stress ossidativo in tutti i soggetti esaminati da subito prima ad un ora dopo la fine della prova ed un graduale recupero dei valori fisiologici nel tempo fino a circa il 90% dei soggetti dopo una settimana di riposo. SUMMARY During aerobic exercise, an intensive reactive oxygen species (ROS) production together an ineffective total antioxidant power, can induce an oxidative stress condition. The aim of this study was to verify the use of d-ROMs (reactive oxygen metabolites derivatives) and BAP (biological antioxidant potential) photometric tests (Diacron, Grosseto, It) to monitor recovery times of dogs after a practical hunting trial. Nine pointers and nine hounds were tested, at regular intervals, during the hunting trial and the following week. Both parameters data, collected on the basis of sampling time, were analyzed by ANOVA test and tukey–Kramer test. Statistically significant differences between various groups were evidenced (p<0.05). Results point out oxidative stress in every subject before the exercise until one hour after the trial. A gradual recovery of physiologic parameters happen, in nearly 90% of dogs after a rest week
