Background and objective: Adenotonsillectomy is a common painful surgery in children that requires adequate and adequate pain relief to facilitate the recovery process. On the other hand, it is associated with numerous mental disorders, which seems to prevent the severity of pain and mental disorders by pre- and postoperative interventions. Therefore, the main purpose of this study was to investigate the psychological and behavioral characteristics of children before and after adenotonsillectomy. Methods: The purpose of the present study was to apply a descriptive-comparative method in terms of purpose and application. The statistical population of this study was all children 6-12 years old with adenotonsillar hypertrophy who were candidates for adenotonsillectomy surgery and referred to Dr. Fatemi Ardebil Medical Center in 1397. The sample size was 60 patients and was selected by available sampling method. Data collection tool was Rutter's Child Psychological-Behavioral Characteristics Questionnaire (Parent Form). Statistical samples were collected in three stages one week before adenotonsillectomy and 3 months and 6 months after surgery. Data were analyzed using paired t-test and SPSS 15 software. Results: Findings showed that after adenotonsillectomy surgery, aggression / hyperactivity of children decreased significantly during three months as well as six months after surgery. After adenotonsillectomy surgery, anxiety / depression in children did not decrease significantly during the three months after surgery, but it decreased significantly six months after adenotonsillectomy. Social incompatibility of children after adenotonsillectomy did not decrease significantly. Three months after adenotonsillectomy, the antisocial behavior of the children under study did not change significantly, but six months after adenotonsillectomy, the antisocial behavior of children decreased significantly. Conclusions: After surgery for children with adenotonsillar hypertrophy, it can be expected that mental disorders such as aggression / hyperactivity, anxiety / depression and antisocial behaviors will decrease significantly over a six-month period. Therefore, it is recommended to perform adenotonsillectomy at an early age

Background and Objective: Gastric cancer (GC) is the fourth most common cancer in the world and the second leading cause of death due to malignancy in the world. Gastric cancer is the most common gastrointestinal cancer in Iran which is more prevalent in the north and northwest of Iran than in other regions. This malignancy accounts for 31% of all malignancies seen in Ardabil. This study was designed to investigate the prevalence of gastric precursor lesions in asymptomatic individuals living in the high incidence area, because it is largely possible to treat the lesions at early and precursor stages. Methods: A total of 492 healthy individuals living in Ardebil province with at least ten years of living in Ardabil experience were selected. They were selected from Ardabil Citizens based on random numbers table and from health records At first, a complete questionnaire including demographic information, history of diseases associated with gastric cancer risk factors such as smoking, alcohol, family history was completed. After completing the questionnaire, they were asked to fast. Upper endoscopy was performed. Results: Among the gastric cancer precursors studied in this study: Helicobacter pylori in 446 (90.7%), gastric ulcer in 15 (3%), duodenal ulcer in 12 (4.2%), family history of cancers in 114 Patients (23.2%), Nausea and vomiting in 287 (58.3%), Heartburn in 267 (54.3%), Alcohol in 21 (4.3%) and Smoking in 191 (38.8%) were positive. Also, 190 (38.6%) patients had reflux. 263 (53.9%) had abnormal pathology. Conclusion: In our study, pathological results were normal reported in 227 (46.1%). 169 (34.3%) had atrophy and 96 (19.5%) had intestinal metaplasia. 90.7% of the patients were positive for Helicobacter pylori

Introduction: Periodontists have been considering epidemiological and therapeutic aspects of different parts of mucosal mucosa, especially gingival thickness and width in recent years. The purpose of this study was to compare the thickness and width of adhesive gums in smokers and non-smokers. Materials and Methods: This study was a descriptive cross-sectional study in the periodontics department of the Faculty of Dentistry. In this study, 99 smokers and 99 non-smokers were studied. PI and BOP were first recorded in all patients; gingival thickness and width were measured in the anterior and lower jaw. All measurements were performed with a Vernier caliper. Descriptive data in the form of mean, standard deviation and percent and inferential statistics were used to investigate the research hypotheses by independent t-test and chi-square in SPSS software version 22. Results: The results of the study showed that the mean thickness of the adhesive gingiva in the smoker group (2.15±0.25) was higher than the non-smoker group (1.83±0.32) and this difference was statistically significant (P <0.001) and mean gingival width in smoker group (5.90 ±1.24) was lower than non-smoker group (7.47 ±1.84) and this difference was statistically significant (P <0.001). The mean plaque level in the smoker group (1.92 ± 0.53) was higher than the non-smoker group (1.44 ±0.54) and this difference was also statistically significant (P <0.001), and gingival bleeding. In the non-smoker group was more than the smoker group and this difference was statistically significant (P <0.001). Conclusion: It seems that smoking increases the plaque and thickness of the adhesive gums and decreases the width of the gums and bleeding of the adhesive gum

Background and objective: Preeclampsia and intrauterine growth restriction are important factors in prinatal morbidity and mortality so that prediction and prevention of them is a significant challenge in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology. Methods: Thirty six women with IUGR and 36 with preeclampsia were included in the study from pregnant women with pregnancy complication who referred to the delivery department of Alavi hospital in Ardabil in 2019. Also, 40 healthy pregnant women without any pregnancy complication or any known underlying disease were included in the study as the control groupe. Maternal serum β-HCG is measured in the first trimester between 11-13 weeks. Serum β-HCG is reported as Multiple of Median (MoM) in order to standardization. Results: Mean β-HCG MoM was 1.74±0.64 in control groupe, 1.48±0.39 in IUGR groupe, and 2.39±1.01 in preeclampsia groupe. There is no relationship between maternal β-HCG MoM with IUGR (P=0.374) but there was a significant relationship between maternal β-HCG MoM with preeclampsia (P=0.023) that this relationship exists with mild (P=0.033) and sever preeclampsia (P=0.001). Results of logestic regression showed that high values of β-HCG MoM had a significant relationship with increased risk of preeclampsia (OR=2.678 , 95%CI: 1.420-5.051, Sig.=0.002) but there was no relationship with IUGR (OR=0.415 , 95%CI: 0.167-1.030, Sig.=0.058). The best cut-off point for β-HCG MoM to predict preeclampsia was 2.28 (sensivity 58.3% and specifity 72.5%) so that having β-HCG MoM≥2.28 in the first trimester, increased the rsik of preeclampsia 3.18-times in the considered population (OR=3.18, 95%CI: 1.16-8.69, P=0.024). Conclusion: The findings of this study showed that the higher values of β-HCG MoM in the first trimester of pregnancy has a significant relationship with the increased risk of preeclampsia. So it seems that this factor probably has a relationship with preeclampsia and can be used as a measurement for prediction and screening of preeclampsia. However, further research with higher sample size is needed to proof these findings and the possibility of its clinical use

Background & objectives: Quitting smoking significantly reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease and other illnesses associated with smoking. Training seems to be effective in motivating cessation of smoking. The aim of this study was to investigate and compare the effect of individual and group training on the smoking cessation motivation in coronary artery disease (CAD) patients admitted to Avesina Hospital in Qazvin. Methods: This study was a semi-experimental study conducted on smoker patients with diagnosis of CAD who were admitted to Avesina Hospital in Qazvin. 255 patients were enrolled in the study through available sampling. Patients were divided into three groups: individual training, group training and control. A standard two-part questionnaire, which included demographic data and a questionnaire of motivation to quit smoking, was used to collect data. The information was collected before training, and four and three months after the completion of the training. Data were analyzed using SPSS v.24 through descriptive statistic (mean and standard deviation), and chi-square test and one-way analysis of variance. Results: The mean of motivation score for smoking cessation before intervention in 3 groups of control, individual and group training were 9.4±2.7, 8.5±2.3, 8.7±2.4, respectively. At the first follow-up (4 weeks after intervention), these amounts in 3 groups of control, individual training and group training were 8.76±2.9, 13.5±2.5, and 5.2±14 (p= 0/001) and in the second follow-up (3 months after intervention), were 8.18±3.3, 13.3±2.8 and 14±2.7, respectively. Conclusion: The results showed that group training program resulted in increased motivation for smoking cessation. So, designing a group training program can have a significant effect on increasing motivation and creating lasting behavior for smoking cessation in CAD patients

Introduction: Osteoporosis is called “silent illness", in which the bones get lost without any signs , with symptoms of pain and fracture developing in advanced stages . According to the World Health Organization statistics, about 40% of women and 10% of men are at risk of osteoporosis during their lifetime. Osteoporosis is more common among women than in men and in Iran half of women over the age of 45 and 90% of women over 75 are afflicted with it. The aim of this study was to assess the knowledge of Ardabil medical university students toward osteoporosis. Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study that has been performed over 258 students of Ardabil medical university in different fields of study. The data collection method was a research based questionnaire including demographic data and questions about knowledge of osteoporosis. Data were analyzed using statistical methods in SPSS version 16. P value of less than 5% was considered as significant. Results: 69.5 percent of students were female students and the rest were male. 31.2 percent had good knowledge, 61.3 percent average knowledge and 7.5 percent poor knowledge toward osteoporosis. The most correct answer was “to have suitable nutrition in preventing osteoporosis” and “high risk to older people for osteoporosis” which were statistically significant and the lowest correct answer (5.8%) was related to “increase the risk of osteoporosis by removing ovaries”. Conclusion: Considering the high prevalence of osteoporosis and increasing the number of seniors over the past decades, the country should take necessary measures in order to raise the level of awareness of the community and especially students about osteoporosis such as the risk factors, prevention and complications of the disease through the health system and governmental or non-governmental organs
