Patient-centred communication for women with breast cancer: Relation to body image perception
Aims and objectives This study aimed to determine the predictive values of patient-centred communication (PCC) and patient's characteristics on the body image (BI) perception in postmastectomy patients. Background Patient-centred communication has been touted as a means of addressing BI issues, especially for postmastectomy patients. Design and Methods This predictive correlational study was conducted on 275 surgically treated breast cancer patients admitted to the Oncology Departments of two hospitals in Tabriz, Iran. These patients were selected using a convenience sampling method. The Body Image after Breast Cancer Questionnaire (BIBCQ) and patient-centred communication questionnaire (PCCQ) were used for collecting the data. Descriptive and inferential statistics were applied to the data. Reporting was in accordance with the STROBE guideline. Results A multivariable model significantly predicted BI perception in participants using surgery type and time elapsed following surgery. Participants' limitations were significantly affected by surgery type and participants' perception of the nurses' PCC skills. Arm concern was significantly affected by surgery type and nurses' PCC skills. Conclusion Patient-centred skills in nurse-patient communication are critical for resolving BI difficulties such as arm concerns and limitations regarding the disease and its treatment. Relevance to clinical practice Patient-centred communication skills can be taught nurses in the clinical setting to help alleviate patients' BI problems
Relationship of pH and the viscosity of five different iron supplements with the absorption of iron ions and enamel discoloration in the anterior primary teeth (an in vitro study)
Background: Various iron drops are prescribed to children to prevent iron-deficiency anemia. The current study aimed to evaluate and compare the physicochemical profile of iron drops and the effect of these medicines on the color of primary teeth. Materials and Methods: On the commencement of this experimental study, the pH and viscosity of five types of iron drops were measured. For the purpose of the current study, sixty healthy anterior deciduous teeth were provided; thereafter, they were assigned to five groups and then exposed to iron drops. The color and color difference of each specimen were measured by VITA Easyshade Compact after 2 weeks. The amount of absorbed iron was determined by atomic absorption. The data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA and Tukey's test (P < 0.05). Results: As evidenced by the obtained results, all medications demonstrated acidic pH and discoloration. The viscosity values of iron drops were reported to be within the range of 2.07-33.58 cP. Based on the results of Pearson's correlation coefficient test, discoloration showed a correlation with pH and atomic absorption (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Analyzed iron drops displayed low pH and discoloration higher than 3.3 which can be easily distinguished with naked eyes. Medicine labels should include warning statements on the feasibility of dental discoloration and erosion
The causes of alcohol consumption in Ardabil in a pandemic crisis COVID 19
Introduction: Since the new Corona virus was reported in November 2019, the World Health Organization has designated it as a global health emergency called COVID 19. The virus not only caused casualties but also caused widespread concern and socio-economic impact. One of the unintended consequences of the COVID 19 pandemic, which followed the implementation of social distance and the restriction of social contacts and quarantine, was the increase in alcohol consumption. Alcohol abuse as a social problem is a phenomenon that accompanies society's ability to organize and maintain The existing order is destroyed, the normal functioning of social life is disrupted and it causes a structural change in the economic, social, political and cultural system of a society. Following the pandemic crisis of COVID19 disease, on February 18, 2020 in Iran, the existence of this disease was confirmed and it has covered almost all provinces of the country. Unfortunately, based on the evidence and information obtained from some hospitals in the country, cases of poisoning and death due to methyl alcohol were reported. Therefore, the researchers decided to investigate the reasons for alcohol consumption in the city of Ardabil in March 2020, which occurred during the COVID 19 pandemic.
Methods: The present study is a cross-sectional descriptive study in which information was collected over a period of one month (March 2020). The tool used is 5 parts. The first part is a checklist of background and demographic information, the second part is how to consume alcohol such as reasons for consumption, type of alcohol consumed, source of preparation, etc., the third part is a checklist of how to go to the emergency room and accompanying symptoms, the fourth part is laboratory and clinical results. Part 5 is the side effects of alcohol poisoning. All patients referred to the emergency department of Imam Khomeini Hospital with the diagnosis of alcohol poisoning in March 2017 were selected by available census method (including hospitalized, discharged and deceased patients, which included 180 people. SPSS 16 software was analyzed.
Results: Out of 180 patients referred to Imam Khomeini Hospital in Ardabil, 13 were female and 169 were male. The mean age of the patients was 10.69 ± 30.71 years. The majority of people with diploma and higher education were 68.1%, married 37.9%, self-employed 55.5% and without underlying disease 92.3%. 93.4% of people had no history of taking any medication. And 98.1% of family members did not report a history of drug use. The data showed that 51.6% of these people had a history of alcohol use before the COVID 19 pandemic. The type of alcohol consumed in the participants in this study was 88.5% methanol in the amount of 100 to 3000 ml. Eight of these people died and the rest were admitted to the emergency, inpatient and intensive care units. 92.3% of them cited fear of corona and rumors that alcohol had a protective effect against the corona virus. The most common symptoms in these patients are dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, headache and visual disturbances. 87.4% also have kidney problems caused by consumption.
Conclusion: According to the findings of the study, it can be concluded that the COVID 19 pandemic has far-reaching consequences, including an impact on community mental health, thus highlighting the importance of targeted support planning during quarantine for community members. The need to address and clarify the rumors about the protective effect of alcohol and other things mentioned above is also becoming more apparent
Prevalence of Multidrug-resistantPseudomonas aeruginosa Strains in Ardabil
Background & objectives: Bacterial antibiotic resistance is becoming a global health crisis. The aim of this descriptive, cross-sectional study was to investigate the prevalence of multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains in Ardabil.
Methods: During 9 months, between July 2019 and March 2020, 50 strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa were collected from different clinical specimens in four hospitals of Ardabil and the prevalence of MDR, XDR and PDR strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa were evaluated. Antibiotic susceptibility testing was assessed using the disk diffusion method.
Results: In the present study, the prevalence of MDR, XDR and PDR strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa were 52%, 40% and 14%, respectively.
Conclusion: Due to high prevalence of multidrug-resistant strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in Ardabil, continuous monitoring of the antibiotic resistance trend in clinical isolates in order to select the best medication is necessary
Evaluation of serum iron profile in women with and without melasma referred to Sina Hospital in Tabriz in 1398
Background: Melasma is commonly acquired hyperpigmentation that often occurs in the form of pigmentation in areas exposed to sunlight, especially in the face. Melasma is more common in women, especially those of childbearing age. Iron deficiency can be a metabolic consequence of some skin diseases. But little detailsare about serum iron levels and melasma.
Aim: A more detailed study of the possible role of iron in the process of melasma seems reasonable and the present study was designed for investigation of serum iron profile in melasma women referred to the Sina hospital in the Tabriz.
Materials & Methods: In the present study, 120 women with melasma and 120 non-melasma women as the control group under study in terms of demographic information (age, educational level, etc), clinical signs (prevalence, site of involvement, skin phototype, and MASI score) and profile Iron (study of red blood cell count, hemoglobin, hematocrit, TIBC or total iron saturation capacity, ferritin, and serum iron) were analyzed.
Results: The results showed that according to the skin phototype and the severity of tanning, it was observed that 39.17% of patients were type III, 32.5% were type IV, 25% were type II and 3.33% were type I. According to the MASI score, 25% of patients had moderate (score 12-14) and no patients showed severe melasma. The most common site of involvement in melasma was centrofacial with 45.83% and mandibular with 16.67%.
According to the results of laboratory tests performed to evaluate the profile of iron, the amount of TIBC and serum iron with (p <0.05) was significantly different in the two groups. Patients' TIBC was lower and serum iron was higher than the control group.
Conclusion:It can be concluded that ferritin level is more inversely related to serum iron profile than melasma intensity than other laboratory tests
Click Synthesis of 1,2,3-Triazoles-Linked 1,2,4-Triazino[5,6- b]indole, Antibacterial Activities and Molecular Docking Studies
The reaction of 4,5‐dihydro‐3H‐1,2,4‐triazino[5,6‐b]indole‐3‐thion with propargyl bromide, in EtOH at 80 °C, produces mono‐propargylated 3‐(prop‐2‐one‐1‐ylthio)‐5H‐1,2,4‐triazino[5,6‐b]indole. Further reaction of this compound with propargyl bromide, in DMF in the presence of K2CO3 at room temperature, produced successfully double‐propargylated 5‐(prop‐2‐one‐1‐yl)‐3‐(prop‐2‐one‐1‐ylthio)‐5H‐1,2,4‐triazino[5,6‐b]indole. The Cu(I)‐catalyzed click reaction of these propargylated compounds with different aromatic azides at room temperature, afforded new derivatives of 1,2,3‐triazoles‐linked 1,2,4‐triazino[5,6‐b]indole with high yields. The in vitro antibacterial activities of the novel 1,2,3‐triazoles were screened. The binding modes of these compounds to three enzyme active sites were determined by a molecular docking study. Docking studies demonstrated the most potent compounds; and binding maps revealed that the activities might be attributed to the hydrophobic interactions, hydrogen bonds, cation‐π and π‐π contacts with the active sites
Hepatoprotective and Antioxidant Activities of Combination of Cinnamomum zeylanicum and Zingiber officinale in CCl4-intoxicated Rats
Liver is the most important organ of drugs and xenobiotics metabolism and any damage to the liver is associated with dysfunction of this organ. This study was carried out to find the possible additive effect of the co-administration of Cinnamomum zeylanicum (cinnamon) and Zingiber officinale (ginger) extracts on carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced liver damage in rats. Forty-two male Wistar rats were randomly divided into 7 groups (n=6). Group I: Normal control, Group II: Control of the extract (25 mg/kg of cinnamon extract and 125 mg/kg of ginger extract), Group III: CCl4 control, Group IV: 50 mg/kg of cinnamon extract; Group 5: 250 mg/kg of ginger extract; Group VI: As in group II, a combination of 25 mg/kg cinnamon extract and 125 mg/kg ginger extract, and group VII: 100 mg/kg of silymarin (as the standard drug). These treatments were performed daily for 14 days. On the fourteenth day, all groups received 1ml of CCl4 along with olive oil (1:1 v/v), except for the groups I and II. The last two groups received only olive oil. Intraperitoneal injection of CCl4 into rats significantly increased the levels of liver enzymes, bilirubin, and malondialdehyde (MDA), and decreased total antioxidant and total protein levels compared to the control group (P<0.001). Pre-treatment with a combination of cinnamon and ginger extracts significantly improved these factors. The results of this study showed that co-administration of cinnamon and ginger extracts is more efficient in protecting liver from the damaging effects caused by CCl4
Production and Preliminary In Vivo Evaluations of a Novel in silico-designed L2-based Potential HPV Vaccine
Background: L2-based human papillomavirus (HPV) prophylactic vaccines, containing
epitopes from HPV minor capsid proteins, are under investigation as second-generation HPV vaccines.
No such vaccine has passed clinical trials yet, mainly due to the low immunogenicity of peptide vaccines; so efforts are being continued. A candidate vaccine composed of two HPV16 L2 epitopes, flagellin and a toll-like receptor (TLR) 4 agonist (RS09) as adjuvants, and two universal T-helper
epitopes was designed in silico in our previous researches.
Methods: The designed vaccine construct was expressed in E. coli BL21 (DE3) and purified through
metal affinity chromatography. Following mice vaccination, blood samples underwent ELISA and
flow cytometry analyses for the detection of IgG and seven Th1 and Th2 cytokines.
Results: Following immunization, Th1 (IFN-γ, IL-2) and Th2 (IL-4, IL-5, IL-10) type cytokines, as
well as IgG, were induced significantly compared with the PBS group. Significant increases in IFN-γ,
IL-2, and IL-5 levels were observed in the vaccinated group versus Freund’s adjuvant group.
Conclusion: The obtained cytokine induction profile implied both cellular and humoral responses,
with a more Th-1 favored trend. However, an analysis of specific antibodies against L2 is required to
confirm humoral responses. No significant elevation in inflammatory cytokines, (IL-6 and TNF-α),
suggested a lack of unwanted inflammatory side effects despite using a combination of two TLR agonists. The designed construct might be capable of inducing adaptive and innate immunity; nevertheless, comprehensive immune tests were not conducted at this stage and will be a matter of future work
