Correlation of Serum Adipolin with Epicardial Fat Thickness and Severity of Coronary Artery Diseases in Acute Myocardial Infarction and Stable Angina Pectoris Patients
Objective: Adipolin/C1q/TNF-related protein-12 is a family of CTRPs highly expressed in adipose tissue with glucose-lowering and anti-inflammatory effects. Various risk factors have been suggested in the incidence of cardiovascular diseases such as a decrease in antiinflammatory
or an increase in inflammatory factors. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the correlation of adipolin with anthropometric, angiographic, echocardiographic,
and biochemical parameters. Subject and Methods: A total of 90 patients who were candidates
for angiography were included in the study and divided into three groups: 30 patients with
acute myocardial infarction (AMI), 30 patients with stable angina pectoris (SAP), and 30
subjects as control group with a history of chest pain but normal angiography. Anthropometric,
angiographic, echocardiographic, and biochemical parameters were measured in all subjects.
Results: Serum adipolin levels were significantly decreased in patients with AMI compared
with SAP and control groups (p < 0.001 for both). In addition, there was a negative association
between serum level of adipolin and epicardial fat thickness (EFT) and Gensini score in CAD
patients. The results of multivariate linear regression analysis revealed that EFT values were
independently associated with serum adipolin levels. Conclusion: The current study showed
an independent association of adipolin with EFT for the first time in patients with AMI.
Decreased adipolin levels in patients with AMI may be involved in the process of
atherosclerosis, which needs further study
Sex‐dependent effects of postweaning exposure to an enriched environment on novel objective recognition memory and anxiety‐like behaviors: The role of hippocampal BDNF level
Exposure to enriched environment (EE) has been indicated to enhance cognitive functions, hippocampal neural plasticity, neurogenesis, long‐term potentiation, and levels of the brain‐derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in laboratory animals. Also, studies on the sex‐dependent effects of exposure to EE during adolescence on adult cognitive functions are less. This is important because the beneficial effects of EE may be predominant in the adolescence stage. Therefore, the present study was designed to compare the effects of EE during adolescence (PND21‐PND60) on novel objective recognition memory (NORM), anxiety‐like behaviors, and hippocampal BDNF mRNA level in the adult male and female rats. Assessment of NORM and anxiety‐like behaviors has been done by novel objective recognition task, open field (OF), and elevated plus maze (EPM), respectively. The expression of BDNF mRNA level was also evaluated by quantitative RT‐PCR. Our findings demonstrated that housing in the EE during adolescence improves NORM in adult male rats. Also, exposure to EE during adolescence had a different effect on anxiety‐like behaviors in both sexes. Additionally, our results indicated an augmented BDNF level in the hippocampus of male and female rats. In conclusion, adolescent exposure to EE has sex‐dependent effects on cognitive functions and anxiety‐like behaviors and increases BDNF mRNA expression in the hippocampus of both male and female rats; thus, BDNF is an important factor that can mediate the beneficial effects of EE and running exercise on cognitive functions and psychiatric traits
Analysis of serum RNA level of STC2 gene in patients with gastric cancer in Ardabil province (referrals to Fatemi and Imam Khomeini hospitals in Ardebil)
Background and Objective: Cancer is the first and second cause of death in developed and developing countries, respectively. Microscopic invasive and endoscopic methods are not routine for screening for gastric cancer, so the need for biomarkers with the ability to detect rapidly, easily and with high sensitivity in the early stages of cancer is highly felt. The aim of this study was to determine the serum RNA level of STC2 gene in patients with gastric cancer in Ardebil province (referrals to Fatemi and Imam Khomeini Hospitals in Ardebil).
Materials and Methods: This case-control study was conducted during 1995 and 1996 in Ardabil University of Medical Sciences. The study sample consisted of 50 patients with gastric cancer (case) and 50 healthy controls (control). Peripheral blood samples were collected from patients with gastric cancer as well as volunteers as control group in EDTA anticoagulant tubes and were immediately subjected to serum isolation. After centrifugation, serum RNA was extracted and after the synthesis of CDNA, the Taq Man and Real-time PCR methods were used and the serum RNA level of STC2 gene was measured using specific primers and probes. Then, the results of serum assessments and clinical and pathologic information of the patients and the control group were collected along with the data obtained from patient records and demographic findings and regulatory tables and related charts. For analyzing descriptive information, the central indices (mean, mean) and dispersion indices (standard deviation, variance) and SPSS 22 software were used. Due to the lack of normal distribution of data, spearman correlation coefficient and u mann-whitay and kruskal wallis tests were used for analysis.
Results: Data analysis showed that the most common anatomical site of the canker was the trunk of the stomach. Increasing the expression of STC2 in 26 patients with gastric cancer cases and 8 cases in the control group showed a significant correlation between STC2 gene expression and Gastric cancer.
Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, there was no relationship between age, sex, tumor differentiation, anatomical location of gastric cancer, subtypes of cancer, and STC2 expression, but there was a significant relationship between the frequency of cases with STC2 expression and the age above 65 years and the TNM division There was a cancer
Expression of miR200a as a biomarker in women with preterm delivery
Introduction: Preterm delivery is one of the main health problems and after congenital anomalies is the main cause of neonatal disease and mortality. Considering the main role of microRNAs as Biomarkers in the diagnosis of various types of diseases, this study was performed with aim to investigate the expression of miR200a as a biomarker in women with preterm delivery in Ardabil province.
Methods: This case-control study was performed on 50 healthy nulliparous women and 50 nulliparous women who had referred to Ardabil Alavi hospital for preterm labor from October 2017 to December 2018. After extracting MicroRNA and synthesis of cDNA, real time PCR technique was used to determine miR200a expression. Data were analyzed by SPSS software (version 20) and ANOVA, t-test, and v-one test. P<0.05 was considered statistically significant.
Results: The expression of miR200a in the normal group was 0.35±0.04, and in the preterm delivery group was 0.24± 0.09 that had 11% decreases in expression compared to the healthy group. Also, specificity and sensitivity of this test for evaluation of preterm delivery was 53.4% and 74%, respectively, which was assessed by ROC curve. These results were statistically significant (P ≤ 0.05).
Conclusion: The expression of microRNA200a as a Biomarker was different among normal pregnant women and those with preterm delivery; it seems that microRNA200a can be used as a new marker to predict preterm delivery
Phage therapy as a renewed therapeutic approach to mycobacterial infections: a comprehensive review
Mycobacterial infections are considered to a serious challenge of medicine, and the emergence of MDR and XDR tuberculosis is a serious public health problem. Tuberculosis can cause high morbidity and mortality around the world, particularly in developing countries. The emergence of drug-resistant Mycobacterium infection following limited therapeutic technologies coupled with the serious worldwide tuberculosis epidemic has adversely affected control programs, thus necessitating the study of the role bacteriophages in the treatment of mycobacterial infection. Bacteriophages are viruses that are isolated from several ecological specimens and do not exert adverse effects on patients. Phage therapy can be considered as a significant alternative to antibiotics for treating MDR and XDR mycobacterial infections. The useful ability of bacteriophages to kill Mycobacterium spp has been explored by numerous research studies that have attempted to investigate the phage therapy as a novel therapeutic/diagnosis approach to mycobacterial infections. However, there are restricted data about phage therapy for treating mycobacterial infections. Evaluation of apoptotic pathway of Agrostemma githago extract on Leishmania major promastigotes
Background and objective: Leishmaniasis is a group of infectious diseases caused by various species of protozoa of the genus leishmania. Clinical symptoms of leishmaniasis are different. Resistance to the first and second-line drugs is increasing in different areas of world. According to the anti-leishmanial effect of Agrostemma githago extract, this study was conducted to evaluation of apoptotic pathway of Agrostemma githago extract on Leishmania major promastigotes using caspase 3/7 enzymes and annexin V/PI activity.
Methods: After preparation of the extract, leishmania major promastigotes were treated with IC50 dose (0.4 mg / ml) of Agrostemma githago in BHI medium. The activity of Caspase 3 and 7 enzymes as well as staining by Annxin V/PA kit were measured by luminescence emmision and flow cytometry, respectively.
Results: The results of this study showed that the activity of Caspase 3 and 7 enzymes in the treatment group with a concentration of 0.4 mg / ml of Agrostemma githago was significantly increased compared to the control group which contains 1 × 107 of Leishmania major alone (P <0.001). Treatment of Leishmania major promastigotes with IC50 concentration of Agrostemma githago extract and evaluation of induction of apoptotic pathway in these cells by annexin-V/ PI kit after 24 and 48 hours of treatment showed an increament in the population of early and late apoptotic cells compared with control group (P <0.001). In addition, the percentage of late apoptotic subgroup was incresed in 48 hours treatment, in comparision to 24 hours of treatment. This accumulation at the
late apoptotic pupulation was accompanied by a decrease of the cell populations in the early apoptotic subgroup (P<0.001).
Conclusion: Increased Caspase enzymes activity and the augmentaion of phosphatidylserine in the outer membrane of Leishmania promastigote parasites indicates an effective apoptosis induction following Agrostemma githago extract treatment
Risk factors predisposing to cardia gastric adenocarcinoma: Insights and new perspectives
Recent decades have seen an alarming increase in the incidence of cardia gastric adenocarcinoma (CGA) while noncardia gastric adenocarcinoma (NCGA) has decreased.
In 2012, 260 000 CGA cases (age‐standardised rate (ASR); 3.3/100 000) and 691 000 NCGA cases (ASR; 8.8/100 000) were reported worldwide. Compared with women, men had greater rates for both the subsites, especially for CGA. Recently,
four molecular subtypes of GC have been proposed by the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and the Asian Cancer Research Group (ACRG); however, these classifications do not take into account predisposing germline variants and their possible interaction with somatic alterations in carcinogenesis. The etiology of adenocarcinoma of the cardia and the gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) is not known. It is thought that CGA is distinct from adenocarcinomas located in the esophagus or distal stomach, both epidemiologically and biologically. Moreover, CGA is often identified in the
advanced stage having a poor prognosis. Therefore, understanding the risk and the role of predisposing factors in etiology of CGA can inform clinical practice and counseling for risk reduction. In this paper, we showed that GC family history, lifestyle, demographics, gastroesophageal reflux disease, Helicobacter pylori infection, and multiple genetic and epigenetic risk factors as well as several predisposing conditions may underlie susceptibility to CGA. However, several genome‐wide association studies (GWASs) should be conducted to identify novel high‐penetrance genes
and pathways as well as causal germline variants predisposing to CGA. They must include different ethnic groups, especially from high‐incidence countries for CGA, because some risk loci are ancestry‐specific. In parallel, statistical methods can be developed to identify cancer predisposition genes (CPGs) from tumor sequencing data. It is also necessary to find novel long noncoding RNAs related to the risk of CGA. Taken altogether, new cancer risk prediction models, including all genetic and nongenetic factors influencing risk, should be developed to facilitate risk assessment, disease prevention, and early diagnosis and intervention of CGA in the future
Using Technology Sustainability Assessment Methodology (SAT) to select of the best Tratment Alternative for Hospital Infectious waste in Ardabil
Methods: This descriptive survey was conducted in 2018. The study area was four public hospitals in Ardebil. At first, the status of hospital waste management was investigated in hospitals. Then, SAT was used to select the best method for treating the infectious wastes of the hospitals.Sat methodology consists of three main components, including screening, scopig and detailed assessment. In screening, defferent infectious waste treatment alternatives undego screening using the finalized environmental and technical criteria, with the participation of 10 stakeholders identified. In scopig stage, outsourced technologies were evaluated quantitatively and qualitatively using criteria related to the technical, economic, social and the environment in a specialized methodology questionnaire with the participation of 25 specialists in the field of hospital waste management. In detailed assessment, to rank the different technologies of infectious wastes treatment, a weighted sum matrix method was used.
Finding: In this study, In order to choose the technology of treatment infectious waste, based on the technical, economic, social and environmental aspects, the environmental aspect has the highest score and the social aspect of the lowest scores. Finally, based on the above criteria, Autoclave with a shredder (64.53) have the highest score, and hydroclave (63.32), autoclave (60.61), central incineration (55.12)and chemical treatment (54.25), were ranked second to fifth, respectively.
Conclusion: Most research participants emphasized the need for an autoclave with a shredder in treatment of infectious hospital waste in Ardabil. However, the environmental, economic criteria and other aspects of treatment infectious hospital waste should be considered
Global and regional burden of disease and injury in 2016 arising from occupational exposures: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2016
Objectives This study provides an overview of the influence of occupational risk factors on the global burden of disease as estimated by the occupational component of the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2016 study.
Methods The GBD 2016 study estimated the burden in terms of deaths and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) arising from the effects of occupational risk factors (carcinogens; asthmagens; particulate matter, gases and fumes (PMGF); secondhand smoke (SHS); noise; ergonomic risk factors for low back pain; risk factors for injury). A population attributable fraction (PAF) approach was used for most risk factors.
Results In 2016, globally, an estimated 1.53 (95% uncertainty interval 1.39–1.68) million deaths and 76.1 (66.3–86.3) million DALYs were attributable to the included occupational risk factors, accounting for 2.8% of deaths and 3.2% of DALYs from all causes. Most deaths were attributable to PMGF, carcinogens (particularly asbestos), injury risk factors and SHS. Most DALYs were attributable to injury risk factors and ergonomic exposures. Men and persons 55 years or older were most affected. PAFs ranged from 26.8% for low back pain from ergonomic risk factors and 19.6% for hearing loss from noise to 3.4% for carcinogens. DALYs per capita were highest in Oceania, Southeast Asia and Central sub-Saharan Africa. On a per capita basis, between 1990 and 2016 there was an overall decrease of about 31% in deaths and 25% in DALYs.
Conclusions Occupational exposures continue to cause an important health burden worldwide, justifying the need for ongoing prevention and control initiatives
