Background & objectives: Glass ionomer cements (GICs) are the most commonly used restorative material in pediatric dentistry. They have numerous advantages. GlC has the ability to adhere chemically to enamel and dentine and fluoride release. In clinical situation microleakage is a major challenge when using glass ionomer cement. Therefore, this study was designed to compare the microleakage of primary‑teeth restorations using two types of glass ionomer (Equia Forte, Fuji II LC). Methods: This experimental study was performed on 80 maxillary anterior deciduous teeth. A Class V cavity measuring 1.5 × 2 × 3 mm was adjusted on the teeth. The specimens were randomly divided into two groups as follows: 1) Fuji II LC, 2) Equia Forte. Teeth were exposed to 500 thermocycles at temperature of 5 °C and 55°C with alternate immersion in hot and cold water for 25 second. Samples were immersed in the Fushin solution for 24 hours to test for dye penetration. The samples were sectioned buccolingually through centre of the restorations and degree of microleakage was assessed under stereomicroscope and scored. Statistical evaluations were performed by the Chi-square test. Results: Based on the results of this study Fuji II LC GIC showed the higher microleakage scores than Equia Forte GIC and statistically significant difference were found between the groups. (P <0.05). Conclusion: Equia Forte GIC may be a useful restorative material in primary teeth due to the law microleakage score and the relatively quick placement while treating young children. Get PDF
Coronavirus infection (COVID-19) is spreading rapidly in the world beyond the health care capacity. The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced an emergency state that needs quick and effective actions. In the lack of specific medicine and vaccine, integration of mental health and nutritional care in the platform of a powerful managerial technique named the “Logical Framework Approach” (LFA) could be helpful for successful control of this pandemic. The strengths of the LFA for coronavirus management program are stakeholders’ involvement, integrative teamwork in research and medical procedures, as well as Inter-sectoral cooperation. The related organizations like WHO and ministries of health of every country could easily adopt this approach and act more efficiently to manage this pandemic

Introduction: The Internet has drastically affected human behavior, and it has positive and negative effects; however, its excessive usage exposes users to internet addiction. The diagnosis of students' mental dysfunction is vital to monitor their academic progress and success by preventing this technology through proper handling of the usage addiction. Materials and methods: This descriptive-analytical study selected 447 students (232 females and 215 males) of the first and second semesters enrolled at Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences, Iran, in 2018 by using Cochrane's sample size formula and stratified random sampling. The study applied Young's Internet Addiction Test and Goldberg General Health Questionnaire 28 for data collection. The study screened the data received and analyzed valid data set through the t-test and Pearson's correlation coefficient by incorporating SPSS Statistics software version 23.0. Results: The results of the current study specified that the total mean score of the students for internet addiction and mental health was 3.81 ± 0.88 and 2.56 ± 0.33, correspondingly. The results revealed that internet addiction positively correlated with depression and mental health, which indicated a negative relationship (P > 0.001). The multiple regression analysis results showed students' five significant vulnerability predictors toward internet addiction, such as the critical reason for using the Internet, faculty, depression, the central place for using the Internet, and somatic symptoms. Conclusions: The study findings specified that students' excessive internet usage leads to anxiety, depression, and adverse mental health, which affect their academic performance. Monitoring and controlling students' internet addiction through informative sessions on how to use the Internet adequately is useful

Aim : Today, the use of the same color bonded restorations has expanded to provide beauty . During the last two decades, significant progress has been made in adhesive dentistry with the introduction of new adhesive systems .Despite the use of bonding agents in these restorations, the problem of microleakage between the restorative material and the tooth structure has not yet been completely eliminated. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of salivary contamination on the microleakage of self-adhesive flowable composite resin restorations. Methods : In this study, 52 permanent premolars and molars were selected. Class 5 cavities were prepared so that the occlusal margin was at the enamel and the gingival margin was at the root level. The prepared teeth were randomly divided into 4 groups (n = 9). Includes: 1) self-adhesive flowable composite in the prepared cavity 2) Salivary contamination of the cavity + self-adhesive flowable composite 3) total etch flowable composite 4) Salivary contamination of the cavity after etching + total etch flowable composite 5)Positive control group 6) Negative control group. The prepared teeth were thermocycled between 5°C and 55°C for 1000 cycles . Staining was performed by immersing the prepared teeth in 2% methylene blue solution for 16 hours. In the next step, the prepared teeth are sectioned bacolingually from the restoration center. Microleakage distance was measured in millimeters under a stereomicroscope And analyzed using SPSS software. Results : Due to the normality of the research data and uniformity of variance (P> 0.05); The results of this study showed that the microleakage of self-adhesive and conventional flowable composites with salivary contamination in the occlusal and gingival walls is higher than the group without salivary contamination(P<0.05). In the presence and absence of salivary contamination, the microleakage of the conventional composite is less than the self-adhesive flowable composite in the occlusal wall (P<0.05). In the presence or absence of salivary contamination, the amount of microleakage of the conventional composite is higher than the self-adhesive flowable composite in the gingival wall (P<0.05). Conclusion: Considering the limitations of the present study, self-adhesive and conventional flowable composites are both sensitive to salivary contamination. The microleakage of the conventional composite is less in the occlusal wall and the self-adhesive flowble composite is less in the gingival wall

Impact of SARS-CoV-2 Pandemic on Patients with Primary Immunodeficiency

    No full text
Although it is estimated that COVID-19 life-threatening conditions may be diagnosed in less than 1:1000 infected individuals below the age of 50, but the real impact of this pandemic on pediatric patients with different types of primary immunodeficiency (PID) is not elucidated. The current prospective study on a national registry of PID patients showed that with only 1.23 folds higher incidence of infections, these patients present a 10-folds higher mortality rate compared to population mainly in patients with combined immunodeficiency and immune dysregulation. Therefore, further management modalities against COVID-19 should be considered to improve the survival rate in these two PID entities using hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and immunomodulatory agents
