Background: Phlebotomus kandelakii and Phlebotomus perfiliewi transcaucasicus sand flies are the vectors of visceral leishmaniasis in Iran. The aim of this study was to evaluate the susceptibility of Ph. kandelakii and Ph. perfiliewi trans-caucasicus, collected from an endemic focus of visceral leishmaniasis (VL) in the northwest of Iran, to different select-ed insecticides. Methods: Sand flies were collected from the villages of Meshkinshahr and Germi Counties using light traps and aspira-tors from May to October 2019. The sand flies were identified as Ph. kandelakii and Ph. perfiliewi transcaucasicus us-ing standard identification keys. Susceptibility test was carried out against DDT (4%), Malathion (5%), Propoxur (0.1%) and Lambda-cyhalothrin (0.05%) according to the WHO standard method. MedCalc statistical software was employed to calculate LT50 and LT90 and to compare the chances of sand flies surviving the exposure to the studied in-secticides. Results: A total of 1,278 female specimens were used for the susceptibility tests. Out of which 1,063 samples were used for the test and 215 for the control group. The estimated LT50 values for DDT (4%), Malathion (5%), Propoxur (0.1%), and Lambda-cyhalothrin (0.05%) for Ph. kandelakii were 15.1, 13.4, 15.4 and 5.8 minutes respectively, and for Ph. per-filiewi transcaucasicus were 11.9, 15.6, 15.9 and 5.8 minutes respectively. Conclusion: This susceptibility studies revealed different LT50 values for different insecticides efficient against Ph. kandelakii and Ph. perfiliewi transcaucasicus. The regular monitoring for the resistance of Ph. kandelakii and Ph. per-filiewi transcaucasicus sand flies seems necessary in diseases control programs in this area

Background and Objective: Toxocariasis is a parasitic disease caused by infection with a group of toxocara nematodes from the roundworm branch. The most common cause is Toxocara canis. The dog is the main host of this worm and the worm eggs enter the environment through the dog's feces. If a human, as a random host, infects the parasite's eggs with contaminated water and food, the eggs open in the intestine and the larvae are released. The larvae can penetrate the intestinal wall and migrate through the blood and lymph vessels to the liver, brain, eyes, and other tissues. These larvae can not mature and remain wandering in different tissues for months. The larvae are metabolically active and cause a severe inflammatory reaction Aim: Because this disease causes a lot of economic and health damage in the world and it is necessary to know it from a health and economic point of view and also shows that in recent years not only the prevalence of the disease in the world has not decreased but also in many countries, It is spreading in humans and animals, so it was decided to design and conduct a study to investigate the prevalence of this disease. Methods: 472 samples from health centers were collected and evaluated by ELISA test. The test results were read by ELISA reader and the results above 0.43 were considered positive and values below 0.43 were considered as negative. Results: The mean age of these individuals was 11.47±2.84 years. There was a statistically significant relationship between the age of the participantes and the incidence of toxocariasis. There was a statistically significant relationship between gender and the incidence of toxocariasis. There is a direct link between where people live and how they get toxocariasis. There was a significant relationship between contact with dogs and their incidence of toxocariasis. (P=0.001). In the study of clinical symptoms of the subjects, in individuals whose light absorption rate was above 0.43 and positive, a statistically significant relationship was observed between the clinical symptoms and the result of ELISA test (P = 0.001). In individuals with a positive result, the relationship between vegetable consumption and the result of ELISA test was statistically significant. Conclusion: In our studies, the results showed that there is a direct relationship between the age of the subjects and the incidence of toxocariasis. The incidence was higher in boys than girls. Toxocariasis had a direct and significant relationship and also a statistically significant relationship was observed between the consumption of vegetables in the subjects and the incidence of toxocariasis

The quinolone-3-carboxylic acid scaffold is essential structure for antibacterial activity of fluoroquinolones such as ciprofloxacin. Modification of 3-carboxylic functionality in this structure can be used for switching its activity from antibacterial to anticancer. Accordingly, a series of C-3 modified ciprofloxacin derivatives containing N-(5-(benzylthio)-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)-carboxamide moiety was synthesized as novel anticancer agents. Most of compounds showed significant activity against MCF-7, A549 and SKOV-3 cancer cells in the MTT assay. In particular, compounds 13a-e and 13g were found to be as potent as standard drug doxorubicin against MCF-7 cell line (IC50s = 3.26–3.90 µM). Furthermore, the 4-fluorobenzyl derivatives 13h and 14b with IC50 values of 3.58 and 2.79 µM exhibited the highest activity against SKOV-3 and A549 cells, being as potent as doxorubicin. Two promising compounds 13e and 13g were further tested for their apoptosis inducing activity and cell cycle arrest. Both compounds could significantly induce apoptosis in MCF-7 cells, while compound 13e was more potent apoptosis inducer resulting in an 18-fold increase in the proportion of apoptotic cells at the IC50 concentration in MCF-7 cells. The cell cycle analysis revealed that compounds 13e and 13g could increase cell portions in the sub-G1 phase, inducing oligonucleosomal DNA fragmentation and apoptosis confirmed by comet assay

Aim: In the present study, we evaluated the types of elderly needs and how to address and solve the problems related to them in the city of Ardabil and evaluated the type of needs and effective factors in addressing them in detail. Methods: The study population of the elderly in Ardabil was covered by the comprehensive health centers of Ardabil, which according to the latest national census in 2016, the elderly population of Ardabil is about 15 thousand people. The final sample size was 553 = 0.6 * 331, which finally entered the final stage of analysis after 291 incomplete questionnaires were dropped. Cluster random sampling method was used for sampling. From the comprehensive urban health center and rural bases of Ardabil city, 20 urban units were randomly selected and from the elderly population covered by each center and base, 15 elderly people (two clusters) were selected and the questionnaire was completed by referring to the door. Results: In our study that was performed on 291 elderly people in Ardabil. 222 (76.3%) were male and 69 (23.7%) were female. In terms of age distribution, the highest number with 126 people (43.3%) belonged to the age group of 65 to 69 years. More than 70% of the elderly in our study in the past month mentioned the need for outpatient health services, which was higher among men (73.4% vs. 62.3% in women) and with age. It was more. The highest sense of need was mentioned in the group with armed forces insurance (82.4%). The elderly who had supplementary insurance felt significantly more in need than those without supplementary insurance (75.1% vs. 63.2%). In terms of the need for inpatient services during the past year, the highest sense of need was observed in men (48.2% vs. 27.9% of women). The results showed that men felt more need for inpatient services (P = 0.029, OR = 4.41) and outpatient services (P = 0.018, OR = 3.955) than women. The results also showed that having insurance other than health insurance increases the search and benefit of services (P = 0.002, OR = 0.283). Conclusion: The aim of this study was to investigate the feeling of need, search and benefit of outpatient and inpatient services by the elderly in Ardabil. Finally, the present study showed that more than 70% of the elderly felt the need for outpatient services, of which more than 98 Percentage went to receive services and about 84% had benefited from the services. The study showed that obstacles such as lack of insurance coverage, belief in self-medication, etc. prevented full use of services. Based on this, it was found that older men with insurance other than health insurance felt more in need than other groups, and in terms of using services, men showed a better chance of using services than women. Accordingly, it is necessary to consider special policies for the elderly in order to remove the barriers to the use of services based on variables such as facilitating access to services and increasing insurance coverag
