Investigation of Serum Zinc Level in Patients with Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis
Introduction: Recurrent aphthous ulcers are common painful mucosal conditions affecting the oral cavity. It seems that blood cells disorders is a etiological factor within some patients whit recurrent pathos stomatitis, thus, the present study has been conducted to consider the serum level of zinc within the patients whit recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS).
Methodology: though the Patients with aphthous stomatitis who have been referred to dental Clinic located in Ardabil Medical Sciences University, were asked to refer to Ardabil Danesh-Novin Laboratory in order to their zinc- serum level be evaluated (S-Br-PARS). Regarding some of the similar studios, 32 individuals with RAS and 32 healthy individuals (control group) were selected, randomly zinc- serum levels were evaluated by use of Zinc diagnostic kit instrument obtained data was analyzed by the software SPSS 22.
Results: Obtained results demonstrated that the mean and standard deviation of zinc- serum level in patient with ARS (72.46 ± 3.45 µg/dl) are less than control group (78.13± 11.50 µg/dl). Which regarding statistical point of view, this difference was meaningful (P< 0.05)
Conclusion: Accordingly, there is a meaningful difference between RAS group s and control groups zinc- serum level
Effect of hydroalcoholic extract of fennel seed (Foeniculum vulgare) on learning and memory, anxiety-like behavior and BDNF gene expression in the hippocampal formation of ovariectomized rats
Background: About 50% of the human population is women. Menopause is a period of a woman's life in which the plasma estrogen level decreases. During this period, women are susceptible to osteoporosis and memory loss, and forgetfulness, so they become sensitive to hot flashes. Using chemical drugs has side effects. Many native medicinal plants of Iran have medicinal properties. In folk medicine, Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare, FV) has been used as an estrogenic agent for thousands of years.
Aim: Due to the importance of menopause and its effects on the life of postmenopausal women, as well as the profound and proven effects of sex hormones such as estrogen, the present study was designed to investigate the effect of hydroalcoholic extract of fennel seeds (FV) on learning, memory, anxiety-like behavior and BDNF gene expression in the hippocampus of ovariectomized rats.
Materials and Methods: Forty-eight adult female Sprague-Dawley rats (3 months) kept in special cages at ambient temperatures of 22 to 25 ° C and a 12-hour light cycle, free accessing to sufficient amount of food and water. The weight of selected rats was approximately 220-180 g, randomly divided into 6 groups of 8. The healthy control group did not receive any medication, the control group underwent ovariectomy, the sham group received dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO,5%, IP), and the surgical sham group (without ovarian resection) was administered to 17B estradiol (10 μg / kg). Intraperitoneally - two months), fennel seed hydroalcoholic extract group (at a dose of 200 mg/kg - intraperitoneally - two months). After two months of treatment, learning, and memory behavioral tests including Open Field and Shuttle Box. The rats anesthetized and their hippocampus was removed for BDNF gene expression.
Results: Injection of fennel extract and estradiol into female rats during two months reduced stress in rats compared to other groups. Also, the increase in learning memory in the two groups of fennel and estradiol (especially the fennel group) was significantly higher than the control group. This extract increased the expression of the BDNF gene in the fennel hippocampus compared to other groups.
Conclusion: The findings of this study showed that the hydroalcoholic extract of FV is effective in reducing stress and increasing the gene expression of BDNF. Proteins related to synaptic formation in the hippocampus improves spatial learning and memory function in ovariectomized rats. This indicates the positive effects of fennel seeds on memory and learning
A review of the factors affecting nurses' readiness to implement electronic health records
Introduction: Electronic Health Record (EHR) is a lifelong electronic collection of information recorded or validated by health care providers with the main objectives of improving the quality of care, providing a useful tool for communication and information sharing. The staff of health centers' readiness is an essential factor in successfully implementing the electronic health record. Among care providers, the role of nurses is vital and valuable. This study aimed to review the factors affecting nurses' readiness to implement electronic health records.
Methods: In this narrative review study, using the internal database: Magiran, SID, Iranmedex and foreign: CINAHL, ProQuest, Ovid, PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, Google Scholar All articles published in Iran during 2010 By 2020, nurses' readiness to implement electronic health records were researched.
Results: The search results were access to 39 articles related to the subject, and finally, 13 completely related studies were included in the research. Studies show that human resources' readiness is an influential factor in the successful implementation of electronic health records divided into two categories of individual and organizational factors. Nurses' understanding of the features and benefits of EHR plays an essential role in their readiness. Another influential factor is nurses' computer skills, which are essential for working with electronic health records. In this regard, several studies have examined the skills, knowledge, and attitudes of nurses and other health care providers and found that inadequate and ineffective training of nurses causes stress, burnout, and feelings of inadequacy, so it is recommended to hold practical training courses and they have retrained and involved nurses. Motivation through reward and encouragement was a factor that was important from the nurses' point of view. Information security and confidentiality in the EHR and people's participation in the design and implementation of the EHR are two factors that have been reported as influential factors in some studies and ineffective in others.
Conclusion: Based on the results, nurses, as the largest healthcare providers, have an essential role in implementing electronic health records. Therefore, identifying the factors affecting their readiness for this, including individual factors, can increase nurses' understanding, awareness, and skills in EHR, motivation, and attitude change planning in this regard. Also, in organizational factors, managers and health care policymakers, with their support and providing the necessary infrastructure and equipment and holding appropriate programs, can play a facilitating role
Pentacam Indices in Photorefractive Keratectomy Surgery
Refractive eye surgeries are one of the most non-emergent ophthalmic surgeries due to the effect on the reduction of refractive errors, increasing visual acuity, enhancing the quality of vision, and indirectly increasing the quality of life of patients. The aim of this study was to determine Pentacam indices in the patients who underwent photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) during 2014-2018, as well as to show their correlation with the type of refractive error. This descriptive cross-sectional study was performed on 2215 eyes of 1125 patients undergoing PRK surgery. The patients’ checklist, including demographic information, refractive index, keratometry, pachymetry, corneal surface zone indices, and progressive corneal thickness indices, was provided. All data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS software, version 25. The findings showed that there was a significant association between posterior corneal astigmatism (PCA) and anterior corneal astigmatism (ACA) (p=0.00). The mean Kmax front was recorded as 44.844 ± 1.58 D, which was significantly correlated with the type of refractive errors (p=0.00). According to the findings, there was a significant relationship between anterior chamber indices and refractive error types and their severity (p=0.00). There was also a significant correlation between the surface zone and keratoconus indices (i.e., index of surface variance - ISV, index of vertical asymmetry - IVA, index of height asymmetry - IHA, and minimum radius of curvature - Rmin) with refractive errors (p=0.00). The findings showed that some of the Pentacam indices could be related to the types of refractive errors in patients undergoing PRK surgery. Therefore, their evaluation is of great importance in this regard
Assessment of parenting styles and childhood traumas in people with obsessive compulsive disorder
Background: Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) has a diverse set of symptoms that include disturbing thoughts, obsessive rituals, preoccupation, and obsessive-compulsive behaviors. A review of the studies shows that less attention has been paid to the variables of parenting styles and childhood traumas in patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Aim: To evaluate the type of parenting styles and childhood traumas in patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Methods and material: The study sample consisted of 65 people in the age range of 18 years and older who were selected using the available sampling method. Research tools: 1) Yale-Brown Algebraic Obsessive Questionnaire (YBOCS) 2) Yang Parenting Styles Questionnaire 3) Child Abuse Questionnaire (CTQ)
Results: In our study 65 people with obsessive-compulsive disorder were included in the study. Their mean age was 33.97 years with a standard deviation of 10.15. Emotional deprivation, vulnerability, acceptance seeking, unchanged self-sufficiency criteria, negativity, six factors had the highest mean in parenting variables related to mothers of obsessive-compulsive patients. The correlation between the types of obsessions and parenting methods showed that there is a relationship between physical obsession with neglected (or disturbed) parenting and recurring obsession with easy parenting. There was also a link between obsessive-compulsive disorder and some childhood injuries. There was some association between parenting characteristics and types of obsessions. Authoritarianism has the most to do with childhood trauma. While authoritatively was not associated with any of the childhood traumas in obsessive-compulsive patients.
Conclusion: Due to the high prevalence of childhood injuries and also incorrect parenting styles in patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder, it is possible to identify and improve these patients as soon as possible
Spatio-temporal analysis and determination of the ecological niche model of Giardia Lamblia (Lambl, 1859) in Ardabil province, northwestern Iran
Abstract Intestinal parasites have a serious health problem
and frequently infect children in poor urban areas in
developing countries. Some types of Cryptosporidium,
Entamoeba and Giardia are amongst the most prevalent
ones. The aim of this study was explore the distribution
pattern of intestinal parasites and the ecological niche of
Giardia lamblia in Ardabil Province. This was retrospective
cross-sectional study, the officially registered statistics
of health centers and hospitals in Ardabil University of
Medical Sciences from January 2017 to December 2019
were used. The Kriging interpolation analysis was run to
detect the high-risk areas of the disease in the province
(P\0.05) by ArcGIS10.4.1 and to construct the ecological
niche model of the G.lamblia parasite, analyzed by Maxent3.3
software. Totally of 238 cases of intestinal parasite
were reported during the study period, 77.7% of which
were males and 22.3% females. Seven types of intestinal
parasites were prevalent with G.lamblia species (79.4%)
being the most and Entamoeba histolytica species (4%) the
least prevalent one. There was one hotspot in the province
in the center with an incidence risk of 41–45.5%. The most
important climate and environmental factors affecting the
ecological niche of G.lamblia are Bio16, Bio3, and the
NDVI. G.lamblia is the most prevalent intestinal parasite in
Ardabil Province; moreover, one important hotspots was
also detected in the province that can provide useful
information regarding the management and control of this
parasite
Comparison of the effects of zinc oxide and zinc oxide nanoparticles on the expression of hepcidin gene in rat liver
Objectives: Nanoparticles have special properties, such as increased intestinal absorption, permeability, and so on
Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles have medical applications
such as using in drug production. Studies of ZnO
nanoparticles have shown the role of these particles in
reducing or increasing the genes expression. Given the
important role of hepcidin in the development of anemia
and iron overload diseases, this study investigated the effect
of ZnO nanoparticles on the hepatic expression of the
hepcidin gene to help find a way to treat these diseases.
Methods: In this experimental study, 24 male Westar rats
were divided into three groups: control, ZnO treating group
and ZnO nanoparticle treating group. Both ZnO and ZnO
nanoparticles were injected with 50 mg/kg body weight for
14 days. At the end, serums were collected and iron, ferritinand IL-6 levels were measured. Expression of the hepcidin
gene was done by Real Time PCR.
Results: ZnO and the ZnO nanoparticle significantly
increased the expression of the hepcidin gene relative to
the control group. The increase in expression of the hepcidin
gene in ZnO nanoparticles was more significant than
in the ZnO
Topical Tranexamic Acid versus Phenylephrine-lidocaine for the Treatment of Anterior Epistaxis in Patients Taking Aspirin or Clopidogrel; a Randomized Clinical Trial
Epistaxis is one of the most prevalent complaints in the emergency department (ED), especially
in patients who take antiplatelet agents. This study aimed to compare the effect of topical use of tranexamic
acid (TXA) with phenylephrine-lidocaine anterior nasal packing (PANP) in controlling epistaxis of patients who
take aspirin or clopidogrel. Methods: This prospective, double-blind, parallel-group, randomized clinical trial
was conducted to compare the effect of topical use of intravenous (IV) TXA compared with PANP on controlling
anterior epistaxis in patients who take aspirin or clopidogrel. Results: One hundred patients with the mean age
of 59.24 § 7.75 (45 – 75) years were studied (52%male). Two groups were similar in terms of age (p=0.81) and sex
(p=0.23) distribution, diabetes mellitus (p=0.54), and hypertension (p = 0.037). The mean time to stop bleeding
was 6.70 § 2.35 minutes in the TXA group and 11.50§3.64 minutes in the PANP group (p=0.002). Bleeding
recurrence occurred in 3 (6%) cases of the TXA group and 10 (20%) cases of the PANP group (p =0.03). Time
to discharge from ED in the TXA group was significantly lower than the PANP group (p<0.001). The absolute
risk reduction (ARR), relative risk reduction, and number needed to harm of treatment with TXA for anterior
nasal bleeding were 14.00% (95%CI: 1.11 – 26.89), 17.50% (95%CI: 0.60 - 37.27), and 7.14 (95%CI: 3.71 -90.43),
respectively. Conclusion: Topical TXA is an appropriate treatment option in bleeding cessation, and reducing
re-bleeding and duration of hospital stay in patients with epistaxis who take antiplatelet agents
The study of predictive factors of moral behavior in nursing students of Ardabil Islamic Azad and Medical Sciences Universities in 2019
Introduction : Moral behavior in any organization, including educational environments, is important for its survival and performance. Various factors can affect moral behavior and this study was conducted in 2019 with the aim of investigating the predictors of moral behavior in nursing students of Ardabil University of Medical Sciences and Islamic Azad.
Methods : The present study was a cross-sectional descriptive-analytical study in which 320 nursing students participated. In addition to the demographic-social profile questionnaire, the Olson hospital moral climate questionnaire, Victor and Cullen organizational moral climate, Lennick and Kiel moral intelligence, Lutzen moral sensitivity, and Swanson and Hill moral behavior questionnaires were used to collect the necessary information.
Results : Hospital moral climate and organizational moral climate were assessed as unfavorable from the perspective of nursing students. Students' moral intelligence was assessed as high, their moral sensitivity as moderate, and their moral behavior as desirable. All variables of hospital moral climate, organizational moral climate, moral intelligence and moral sensitivity had a significant relationship with the moral behavior variable and therefore all of them entered the regression model. According to the regression model, the variables of hospital moral climate and moral intelligence had a large share in predicting the moral behavior of nursing students, so that 5.90 of the variance of moral behavior was predicted by the hospital moral climate and 9.61 of the variance was predicted by moral intelligence.
Conclusion : Considering the unfavorable evaluation of organizational moral climate and hospital moral climate from the perspective of nursing students and also due to their high impact (especially hospital moral climate) on moral behavior, it is better to plan and take the necessary measures. Relevant authorities should be done to promote these factors as much as possible. On the other hand, considering that the moral intelligence of nursing students was evaluated at a high level and also their moral sensitivity at a moderate level, on the other hand, due to the high impact of these factors on education, it is better that school officials, especially teaching professors and clinical instructors. In their training, they should emphasize these two factors affecting the moral behavior of nursing students more than before
