Background & objectives: Fatigue is a common complaint in patients with type 2 diabetes, which can affect self-care behaviors and people's efforts to control diabetes. This study was conducted to determine the severity of fatigue and its related factors in patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods: In this descriptive-correlational study, 218 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who were referred to diabetes clinic of Imam Khomeini Hospital in Ardabil in 2017 were selected by available sampling. Data were collected by five questionnaires including: socio-demographic form, Fatigue Questionnaire, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality, Beck Depression, and Visual Analogue Scale. Data analysis was done by using descriptive (mean, standard deviation and frequency) and Inferential statistics (Pearson correlation coefficient, simple and multiple regression model) in SPSS software v22. Results: The mean fatigue score of the participants was 57.07±17.16, which indicated moderate fatigue. Pearson correlation test revealed a significant correlation between fatigue and pain (r=0.440 p<0.01), depression (r =0.590, p<0.01), Number of complications of the disease (r=38.0, p<0.01), Duration of diabetes (r=0.21, p<0.01), duration of exercise (r=-0.305, p<0.01), and sleep quality (r=0.390, p<0.01). However, no significant correlation was found between fatigue and glycosylated hemoglobin and BMI. Data analysis using multivariate linear regression showed that four factors of pain, depression, duration of disease, and duration of exercise were predictors of fatigue in patients with type II diabetes. Conclusion: The present study showed that fatigue was a relatively common problem in patients with type 2 diabetes and factors such as pain, depression, duration of disease and duration of exercise were factors that affect fatigue. Health care providers need to pay special attention to fatigue assessment in patients with diabetes and proper interventions be taken to reduce pain and diagnosis and control depression in these patients

For this data article the adsorption of Basic Blue 41 (BB 41) dye by activated carbon derived from filamentous algae (AAC) of available in agriculture waste as cheap adsorbents were examined. Activated carbon has been widely used as an adsorbent regard to its massive specific surface area, high porosity, reusability and thermal stability for the removal of pollutants from effluent. These filamentous algae grow widely in irrigation streams, causing decreasing speed of water flow and are not even eaten by livestock so are considered agricultural wastes. They can be used as precursors for activated carbon preparation and as adsorbent for the dye removal. The data of initial dye concentration (50–200 mg//L), pH of dye solution (3–9), adsorbent dosage (0.25–2 g/L), and contact time (5–200 min), were assessed. The structure of AAC was characterized by X-ray diffraction and Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy. Activated carbon with a 94% removal of dye at concentration of 100 mg/L, pH 9, and adsorbent dose 1 g/L after 90 min. The data of isotherms and Kinetics indicated that the experimental data are fitted to Langmuir and second-pseudo-order models. Under the optimum conditions, maximum adsorption capacity of the AAC in Langmuir model enhanced to amount of 125 mg/g. According to the experimental data, filamentous algae are a suitable raw material for activated carbon production

The Effect of Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells on the Granulocytic Differentiation of HL-60 Cells

Objective: Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are multipotent stromal cells that can differentiate into a variety of cell types. They control the process of hematopoiesis by secreting regulatory cytokines and growth factors and by the expression of important cell adhesion molecules for cell-to-cell interactions. This investigation was intended to examine the effect of bone marrow (BM)-derived MSCs on the differentiation of HL-60 cells according to morphological evaluation, flow cytometry analysis, and gene expression profile. Materials and Methods: The BM-MSCs were cultured in Dulbecco’s modified Eagle’s medium supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS). After the third passage, the BM-MSCs were irradiated at 30 Gy. To compare how the HL-60 cells differentiated in groups treated differently, HL-60 cells were cultured in RPMI-1640 and supplemented with 10% FBS. The HL-60 cells were seeded into six-well culture plates and treated with all-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA), BM-MSCs, or BM-MSCs in combination with ATRA, while one well remained as untreated HL-60 cells. The expression levels of the granulocyte subsetspecific genes in the HL-60 cells were assayed by real-time polymerase chain reaction. Results: Our results revealed that BM-MSCs support the granulocytic differentiation of the human promyelocytic leukemia cell line HL-60. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, we concluded that BM-MSCs may be an effective resource in reducing or even preventing ATRA’s side effects and may promote differentiation for short medication periods. Though BM-MSCs are effective resources, more complementary studies are necessary to improve this differentiation mechanism in clinical cases

    No full text
The number of inherited diseases and the spectrum of clinical manifestations of primary immunodeficiency disorders (PIDs) are ever-expanding. Molecular diagnosis using genomic approaches should be performed for all PID patients since it provides a resource to improve the management and to estimate the prognosis of patients with these rare immune disorders. Method The current update of Iranian PID registry (IPIDR) contains the clinical phenotype of newly registered patients during last 5 years (2013–2018) and the result of molecular diagnosis in patients enrolled for targeted and next-generation sequencing. Results Considering the newly diagnosed patients (n = 1395), the total number of registered PID patients reached 3056 (1852 male and 1204 female) from 31 medical centers. The predominantly antibody deficiency was the most common subcategory of PID (29.5%). The putative causative genetic defect was identified in 1014 patients (33.1%) and an autosomal recessive pattern was found in 79.3% of these patients. Among the genetically different categories of PID patients, the diagnostic rate was highest in defects in immune dysregulation and lowest in predominantly antibody deficiencies and mutations in the MEFV gene were the most frequent genetic disorder in our cohort. Conclusions During a 20-year registration of Iranian PID patients, significant changes have been observed by increasing the awareness of the medical community, national PID network establishment, improving therapeutic facilities, and recently by inclusion of the molecular diagnosis. The current collective study of PID phenotypes and genotypes provides a major source for ethnic surveillance, newborn screening, and genetic consultation for prenatal and preimplantation genetic diagnosis

    Get PDF
Introduction: Emergency care is usually conducted within limited time and with limited resources. During emergency care processes, data quality issues should be taken into account. The aim of this study was to assess the quality of emergency care data from the perspectives of different data stakeholders. Method: This survey study was conducted in 2017. In this research, the viewpoints of three groups of data stakeholders, including data producers, data collectors, and data consumers, were collected regarding data quality in emergency care services. Data were collected by using a standard information quality assessment questionnaire. Results: The mean values for each dimension of data quality were as follows: sound data (6.23), dependable data (6.28), useful data (6.30), and usable data (6.35), with 0 being the lowest possible score and 10 being the highest. The role gap analysis suggested a clear gap between data producers and data customers at the university level. Conclusion: Overall, data quality in emergency medical services was not at a high level. Although data quality was improving, the levels of data completeness, compatibility, and usability were low. To improve the usability of emergency medical service data, more attention should be paid to the dimensions of accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data sources
