Assessment of Relationship between severity of Malocclusion and Oral Health Related Quality of Life in Young Adults of Ardebil in 2018-2019
Background and Objectives:
Maloccluion is loosing the beauty that is acceptable of society than being a disease. The main expectation of its treatment is to improve oral function, person's appearance, psychological and social aspects and consequently, improving the quality of life of the individual. There is a direct relationship between the need for orthodontic treatment and various aspects of Oral health related quality of life(OHRQoL), Which involves mental issues, oral function, etc.
Considering the increasing growth of studies on oral and dental problems and the quality of life in recent decades and due to the existence of different cultural levels in different cities of Iran and its relation with quality of life, we decided to do this study as the Assessment of Relationship between severity of Malocclusion and Oral Health Related Quality of Life in Young Adults of Ardebil.
Methods:
This study Is a Cross-sectional study. In this study, 35 adolescents with an average age of 18- 25 years old who came to Ardabil dental clinic and a private clinic during the period of June 2018 to December 2018 entered the study.
In order to remove the interfering factors in the study, patients were evaluated for periodontal health by CPITN (Community Periodontal Index of Treatment Need). That patients with grade 2 and lower were studied. the self-questionnaire containing the consent form and several demographic questions were completed by the person. Then IOTN (Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need) was determined by orthodontist.
Results:
In the study of the relationship between gender and oral health related quality of life, there was no significant relationship in any of the occlusal groups regarding the relationship between quality of life and gender, which indicates definitely there is no relationship between gender and the condition of oral health and its impact on quality of life. The relationship between the severity of malocclusion (measured by the IOTN-DHC index) and oral health related quality of life indicated that there was no statistically significant relationship between these two variables. The relationship between self-assessment (measured by the IOTN-AC index) and oral health related quality of life revealed that there was no statistically significant relationship between these two variables. Also, although the relationship between the education of patients and oral health related quality of life is not a goal of this study, this relationship has also been studied and the results showed that there is a statistically significant relationship between these two variables. As with increased education, the oral health related quality of life decreases.
Conclusion:
Malocclusion and orthodontic treatment do not appear to affect general or oral health related quality of life to a measurable degre
Okadaic acid attenuates short-term and long-term synaptic plasticity of hippocampal dentate gyrus neurons in rats
Protein phosphorylation states have a pivotal role in regulation of synaptic plasticity and long-term modulation of synaptic transmission. Serine/threonine protein phosphatase 1 (PP1) and 2A (PP2A) have a critical effect on various regulatory mechanisms involved in synaptic plasticity, learning and memory. Okadaic acid (OKA), a potent inhibitor of PP1 and PP2A, reportedly leads to cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s disease (AD)-like pathology. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of OKA on electrophysiological characteristics of hippocampal dentate gyrus (DG) neurons in vivo. Male Wistar rats were divided into two control and OKA groups. OKA was injected intracerebroventricularly (i.c.v.) into lateral ventricles and after two weeks the long-term potentiation (LTP) and paired-pulse responses recorded from hippocampal perforant path-DG synapses in order to assess short-term and long-term synaptic plasticity. Results of this study revealed that OKA-induced inhibition of PP1 and PP2A activity drastically attenuates the field excitatory postsynaptic potential (fEPSP) slope and population spike (PS) amplitude following paired pulse and high frequency stimulation (HFS) of hippocampal DG neurons indicating pre- and post-synaptic involvement in electrical activity of these neurons. Administration of OKA impaired the short-term and long-term spatial memories conducted by Y-maze and passive avoidance tests, respectively. OKA-induced attenuation in electrophysiological activity and consequent memory deficits also provide a beneficial tool for studying neurodegenerative disorders such as AD

Nickel ion release from dental alloys in two different mouthwashes
Background. Mouthwashes are widely used as adjuncts to mechanical oral hygiene procedures. Nonetheless, there is little information regarding the effect of various mouthwashes on the amount of ions released from the nickel-chromium (Ni‒Cr) alloys used in the fabrication of fixed prostheses. Therefore, the present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of two types of mouthwash on the release of Ni ions from dental alloys.
Methods. Forty-two disk-shaped specimens were prepared with a diameter of 10 mm and a height of 2 mm. Two mouthwashes were examined in this study: Oral B and Listerine. A control group was also considered using distilled water. Each Ni‒Cr disk was immersed in the mouthwashes and distilled water in polypropylene test tubes, and then incubated at 37°C to simulate the oral temperature. After 45 days of incubation, the samples were tested for Ni ions using inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy. Data were analyzed using ANOVA.
Results. In the Halita group subjects exhibited 2.04±0.65 reduction in OLS. OLS reduction in the chlorhexidine group was 1.95±0.74. Statistical analysis showed no significant difference between the two groups (P>0.05).
Conclusion. As the results indicated, the amount of ion release was within the safe limits in the two experimental groups. However, it is recommended that prescribe Listerine mouthwash should not be prescribed for the patients with a history of Ni allergy
Survey of Urban Waste Management Using the Life Cycle Assessment Method , Case Study: Rasht City
Background Today, population growth and increased human activities in urban societies have produced a large amount of waste. The waste volume causes problems in human health and environmental contamination. Due to the amount of waste produced and compounded, there are several options for managing it that have different environmental impacts. Choosing the right option requires backup tools. Recently, a tool called the Life Cycle Assessment has been developed to improve the situation. The purpose of this study is to compare the environmental impacts of four urban waste disposal scenarios in Rasht city.
Methods: In this research, the amount of waste and required data for logging are determined, then the quadruple life cycle assessment stages associated with each waste management scenario including the first scenario (15% recycling, 50% compost, landfill sanitation), the second scenario (20% The third scenario (20% incinerator, 50% compost, sanitary landfill) and the fourth scenario (21.4% compost, non-sanitary landfill) were analyzed. Finally, the results of the IWM1 model were analyzed. Then the results were assigned to the classes: energy consumption, greenhouse gases, acid gases, photochemical fluids and toxic emissions. And then the ecological index of each scenario was obtained.

Expression optimization of recombinant cholesterol oxidase in Escherichia coli and its purification and characterization
Cholesterol oxidase is a bacterial flavoenzyme which catalyzes oxidation and isomerization of cholesterol. This enzyme has a great commercial value because of its wide applications in cholesterol analysis of clinical samples, synthesis of steroid-derived drugs, food industries, and potentially insecticidal activity. Accordingly, development of an efficient protocol for overexpression of cholesterol oxidase can be very valuable and beneficial. In this study, expression optimization of cholesterol oxidase from Streptomyces sp. SA-COO was investigated in Escherichia coli host strains. Various parameters that may influence the yield of a recombinant enzyme were evaluated individually. The optimal host strain, culture media, induction time, Isopropyl ß-D-1-thiogalactopyranoside concentration, as well as post-induction incubation time and temperature were determined in a shaking flask mode. Applying the optimized protocol, the production of recombinant cholesterol oxidase was significantly enhanced from 3.2 to 158 U/L. Under the optimized condition, the enzyme was produced on a large-scale, and highly expressed cholesterol oxidase was purified from cell lysate by column nickel affinity chromatography. Km and Vmax values of the purified enzyme for cholesterol were estimated using Lineweaver-Burk plot. Further, the optimum pH and optimum temperature for the enzyme activity were also determined. We report a straightforward and easy protocol for cholesterol oxidase production which can be performed in any laboratory
