No full textIn order to acquire English idioms and phrases appropriate for certain fields of work and scientific study, this document explains teaching data from an English course for an ecclesiastical music programme in the even semester (2023-2024). Therefore, the Indonesian technical language utilised in these instructional materials is a hybrid of Indonesian and English terminology. Then, one may use a variety of methods to increase their idiom and expression repertoire:
• Identify the area of study or the vocation that most interests you. For instance, if you are a medical professional, you may concentrate on idioms and phrases associated with medicine.
• Compile a list of idioms and terms often used in that industry or line of work. You should look for information in dictionaries or other specialised publications that examine the use of English in certain situations.
• Become familiar with the context in which each phrase and term is used. Ensure you have a solid grasp of the circumstances and settings in which the idioms and phrases are used.
• Get some experience with idioms and phrases in speech and writing by practising them. Try to use the idioms and terms you have acquired in your regular discussions and academic work.
• Increase the degree of experience that you have had using English in the subject or career that you are studying. Suppose you want to study English in a business setting, for instance. In that case, you could attend business seminars or conferences in English, or you could join discussion groups where business-related issues are discussed in English. If you follow these instructions, you can increase both your grasp of and your ability to utilise idioms and phrases in English specific to various professions and fields of study

Collections as a Term of Art: User Experience Research and Design for Collections on UCLA Library’s New Website
Get PDFInstitutional collections are undergoing a rapid redefinition in the pandemic era to meet the needs of researchers for remote, in-person, and hybrid access for an increasing number of resource types. What is or is not a collection? “Collections” is a term of art – its meaning will shift as the resources and ways in which we interact with them expand. Physical books and their digitized counterparts, unique archival items, subscription databases, streaming services, multimedia assets, datasets, and repositories are just a few of the resources under this umbrella. Designing for researchers’ evolving needs is crucial, but has yet to be addressed in the academic library space with both access and exploration in mind.
This poster presents a case study to represent Collections on a library’s new website, and to frame Collections as both a means to access materials and to inspire visual exploration. UCLA Library’s Software Development and Library Systems, User Experience team outlines the UX research methodologies undertaken; describes the design process; and presents the resulting visual display alongside the information architecture for the concept of Collections on the UCLA Library website. This project is contextualized within a larger website redesign that creates a visual design system and scaled approach for future work, including UCLA’s Film & Television Archive website redesign coming in the next year
Library (Takeover) Week!: Outreach to First Year Art Students
Get PDFThe Art Foundation (AFO) program is a prerequisite for entry into all visual art and design departments at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). As such, it provides an introduction to materials, strategies and ideas that will shape students futures in their chosen disciplines. The library is a critical resource for tools and expertise that would facilitate their creative research, but only if they take advantage of them. VCU Libraries provides books, magazines, specialized databases and software, multimedia studios and equipment loans, and even exhibition opportunities, as well as several subject specialists to help navigate them.
With support from the Art Foundation department chair, the Arts Research Librarian and the Multimedia Teaching & Learning Librarian collaborated to plan a targeted program to promote these relevant resources to AFO students and faculty. Previously scattered and sporadic outreach/instruction efforts were combined into a cohesive “Library Week,” coalesced around the most useful aspects of the library for art students. We combined the Libraries’ resources of art reference and instruction, creative technology spaces, and Special Collections & Archives, into one package, and utilized the Communications & PR team to maximize impact. The week included a pop-up library, art-focused library tours, software instruction, and curriculum-integrated orientations. Library Week was very well received and resulted in several requests for more in-depth instruction, faculty collaborations, and student engagement

Get PDFAt the end of the Joseon Dynasty, Subak's successors all died of old age. It is difficult to inherit the national cultural heritage and hand it down to descendants through individual efforts alone. We all need to take care of it and preserve it. As with arts that have been handed down by the people, there are no written records related to the genealogy of Subak and Subak Dance. However, it is possible to look into the context after the late Joseon Dynasty. Song Chang-yeol wanted to become a movie star in his youth, and it is said that he stayed for a while in a place called ‘Shin-Film’, which was directed by Shin Sang-ok. It seems that he is a former movie star, as he has appeared in several films, including a minor role in the movie “The Martyr” directed by Yoo Hyeon-mok. This person's maternal uncle is director Choi Hyun-min, who planned a movie called 'Sorrow in the Sky', which turned half of the Korean peninsula into a sea of tears in 1965. Song Chang-ryeol was born in February 1932 in Bukcheong-gun, Hamgyeongnam-do. In 1938, his father ran the 'Ohara Sewing Association' in Osaka, Japan. From 1938 to 40 he lived in Osaka. He later moved from Japan to Kaesong, Joseon

Get PDFThe world of Platonic idealism will not be satisfactorily imported into the world of phenomenological consciousness. The task of phenomenological philosophers is to return to the interpretation of experience itself and seek to recast meaning not in terms of theoretical idealism, but in terms of existential meaning. The phenomenological philosopher adopts an alternative attitude to interpretation of inherited philosophical concepts. All interpretation necessarily involves achieving an acceptable balance between objective and subjective poles of interpretation. Phenomenology, as posthuman philosophy, is post human in the chronological sense that it transcends the limitations of both renaissance humanism and modern secular humanism by means of the evolution of human consciousness

Surveillance Graphs: Vulgarity and Cloud Orthodoxy in Linked Data Infrastructures
Get PDFInformation is power, and that power has been largely enclosed by a handful of information conglomerates. The logic of the surveillance-driven information economy demands systems for handling mass quantities of heterogeneous data, increasingly in the form of knowledge graphs. An archaeology of knowledge graphs and their mutation from the liberatory aspirations of the semantic web gives us an underexplored lens to understand contemporary information systems. I explore how the ideology of cloud systems steers two projects from the NIH and NSF intended to build information infrastructures for the public good to inevitable corporate capture, facilitating the development of a new kind of multilayered public/private surveillance system in the process. I argue that understanding technologies like large language models as interfaces to knowledge graphs is critical to understand their role in a larger project of informational enclosure and concentration of power. I draw from multiple histories of liberatory information technologies to develop Vulgar Linked Data as an alternative to the Cloud Orthodoxy, resisting the colonial urge for universality in favor of vernacular expression in peer to peer systems
